instantly as abc execs woke up to news of the controversy, barr then tweeting out an apology, at around 10:30 a.m. on tuesday, saying she's leaving twitter. >> but that was not enough for abc. it announced the cancellation of her show, at 1:48. and it is not over yet. barr is still on twitter, she's tweeting this morning, despite the announcement that she was going to leave. this time she took aim at her roseanne co-stars, sara gilbert and michael fishman, who responded to her tweet comments, saying wow, unreal and you threw me under the bus, nice. took time to comment, i feel bad for potus, referring to president trump, he goes through this every single day. this story is still unfolding as we speak and craig's got the latest this morning. >> she's been on quite the twitter tear indeed. bottom line, the outspoken trump supporter is off the air. her staff, all out of jobs. and that's just the beginning of the backlash coming fast and furious after the tweet about valerie jarrett. jarrett herself spoke out about

the tweet, exclusively on msnbc. >> overnight, barr returned to twitter, sending out several apologies. don't feel sorry for me, guys, today my words caused hundreds of hard-working people to lose their jobs, later explaining in a since-deleted tweet, it was 2:00 a.m. and i was ambien-tweeting. and then she claimed the comment wasn't racist. >> what's up, deplorable? >> it all stems from an early tuesday morning tweet storm. barr replying to a tweet about the obama administration conspiracy theory writing this about former obama adviser valerie jarrett. muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes had a baby, equals vj, jarrett addressed the tweet during a planned msnbc town hall on racism in america tuesday night. >> well first of all, i think we have to turn it into a teaching moment. i'm fine. >> hours after tuesday's post, barr tweeted an apology for making a bad joke.

and declared that she is now leaving twitter. but those tweets did little to calm the firestorm already ablaze. hours later, abc canceled the hit show. the network's entertainment president writing barr's statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values. some are praising abc's decision to drop the popular sitcom. while others are saying the network should have seen it coming. barr has repeatedly tweeted conspiracy theories about parkland shooting survivors and most recently, chelsea clinton. saying the former first daughter was married to a nephew of george soros and when clinton corrected her, she took another shot. but overnight barr tweeted several personal apologies. before news of the cancellation, producer wanda sykes announced she was quitting the show. the latest season, centering around a white working-class american family, has tackled hot-button issues head-on. barr has been an outspoken

supporter of president trump, and brought her politics to the show. >> most of all, lord, thank you for making america great again. >> trump has previously praised the show's ratings. at a political rally tuesday, the president did not address the actress or the tweet now just months after barr's return to the spotlight, an abrupt ending to her show. and possibly her tv career. the roseanne reboot was the highest-rated, most-watched series on broadcast tv with another season already in the works and for roseanne barr even though she's still venting on twitter. she said she's going to be giving her side of the story on a radio show this friday. >> as we note, this happened very quickly yesterday. sounds like some of the co-stars of the show didn't even know it was canceled until they read about it in the press. >> one of the things that's been most striking to a lot of people is the speed with which abc acted. reportedly roseanne barr was

un is happening despite the president's abrupt announcement last week. >> i've decided to terminate the planned summit in singapore for june 12th. >> press secretary sarah sanders say the north koreans have been engaging since president trump's letter backing out of the summit. but his goal of a nuclear-free north korea could be a mirage. nbc news has learned a recent c.i.a. intelligence assessment has concluded north korea does not intend to give up its nuclear weapons any time soon. according to three u.s. officials. that assessment goes against president trump's recent statements otherwise. tweeting just last month -- they have agreed to denuclearization. so great for world. one intelligence official who has read the c.i.a. report circulated just days before the summit's cancellation, tells nbc news -- everybody knows they are not going do denuclearize. in an odd twist, one concession the report suggests the north koreans may be willing to make, is opening a western-style burger joint in the capital city of pyongyang as a show of goodwill.

"the new york times" is

reporting a dramatic confrontation between president trump and the attorney general, jeff sessions, this is back in march of last year, now being investigated by the special counsel robert mueller. the "times" reports according to confidantes and former administration officials that sessions had flown to mar-a-lago in florida, because mr. trump was refusing to take his calls. when they met, the president berated sessions for his decision to recuse himself from the russia investigation. told him he should reverse his decision. but that sessions refused. all of it now pointing to a potentially broader of obstruction of justice inquiry by the special counsel than was previously thought. also this morning, who mos governor eric greitens is gone. once seen as an up-and-coming star in republican politics, greitens has resigned in the face of a sex scandal with disturbing details coming to light. nbc's ron mott is in the capital city of jefferson city, missouri. ron, good morning to you. >> good morning to you this

malicious intent, sleight of hand and malpractice. and journalist particular malpractice. cnn says it stands by its reporting and will respond forcefully to any intimidating of covering this issue. >> do i wish i was there. >> that remark at the center of an allegation from one of t co-author of the report. said freeman made that comment about her body. she says he made that comment about a story about the co-star not the reporter. >> i congratulate the woman on being pregnant and she wasn't. i've never done it again. after 50 years, i've never done it. i learned my lesson. >> boy do i wish i was there. >> they say she reported the incident to hr, which investigated her claim and concluded it was not supported by the facts. free nont calls out cnn for

gabe gutierrez is in san juan with this story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it has been more than eight months since hurricane maria ripped through this island. while the capital city is back up and running, some mountain towns are still without power. now, a new report out with a staggering statistic, that more than 4,000 people may have died here. this morning, mounting anger in puerto rico, over the government's response to hurricane maria. harvard researchers estimating at least 4,600 people died because of little access to power or medical care during the storm's aftermath. that's dramatically higher than the official count of 64. her father died a week after the category 4 hurricane hit in cement. at home in the dark, without power, he was not able to get the life-saving oxygen he relied on to survive. his daughter blames the hospital and the government for not doing enough.

karl wrote a good-bye letter. but thanks to first responders, karl got a second chance at life and an opportunity to say thank you decades later. >> to my family from dad. a few thoughts if i am fated to leave you now. >> reporter: chilling, bittersweet words. >> i love you very much. do awfwonderful things in your life. >> reporter: words he thought might be his last. >> doug, my boy, discover secrets to cure lots of the world's problems. >> reporter: karl's second channels involves a stunning rescue and a dark day that would forever change history. >> it was a cold, wintry morning. >> reporter: february 26, 1993. eight years before the 9/11 attacks, began like many for karl, who worked in business development in those now fallen twin towers. >> i was having an important meeting with the director of the world trade center at 2:00 that afternoon.

>> reporter: he grabbed lunch to go, a meal he'd never finish. >> i took my takeout salad back into the elevator from the 43rd floor and the elevator stopped. >> reporter: the elevated stopped. the four-walled car suspended in a high shaft while ton thinkable was happening. in a garage deep below, a bomb had been detonated. tim ferrell was in the nypd emergency unit. >> smoke was coming out of both of the towers. >> reporter: some 40 stories above, karl was all alone. what did you hear? >> banging, yelling help. >> reporter: echoes from others, scared and trapped, too. >> it got smokier. >> reporter: below him, utter devastation. the 1,200 pound device ignited by a terrorist cell. a horrifying scene that killed six and injured more than a thousand.

knowing he might not leave that tiny metal box, he penned that remarkable letter to his wife and three children. >> debbie, my beautiful girl, do good. jeff, what a terrific person. stay well and make good decisions, help people. >> reporter: then, power went out. karl was in the pitch black. >> a lot of thoughts go through your head of rational things, irrational things. >> reporter: agonizing minutes became bleak hours. at the same time, a massive incredible rescue operation was under way. tim ferrell, among the teams helping save people inside. could you talk to the people on the elevators to let them know? >> we could not. >> reporter: without information, karl was trapped in that elevator prison, for 5 1/2 staggeringly long, lonely hours. >> the shaft moved. we're going up. >> reporter: amazingly, help had

arrived. tim and his rescue team pried over the thick doors. >> karl was jocular when we opened up the door. >> reporter: what do you mean? >> he wasn't panicked or upset. >> reporter: without injuries, he was taken to safety. since that rescue 25 years ago, tim and karl have never seen each other until now. >> uncle tim, how are you doing? >> nice to meet you. >> what the hell took you so long? >> reporter: reunited for the first time by the 9/11 memorial museum. >> you handled it well that day. and you gave a break to me and my teammates. >> reporter: now, a quarter of a century later in tragedy's haunting footprint, the memories are still raw. >> in my mind's eye, i can walk through my floor. to think that's all dust and doesn't exist anymore, it's hard to comprehend that. >> reporter: and karl? he's as grateful as they get, for a second chance at life. >> thankful i've seen my
