california teachers association building. this is a mount hamilton council spot. new video showing the flames there, what firefighters had to battle. it took them 20 minutes to put it out. someone with the teachers association is already there to get a sense of the damage. don't know how that fire started. kris sanchez is there as well. she's gathering information, asking questions. we'll check in with her at 5:00. >> firefighters wrapping up a long night in the bay area from that building fire in san jose we told you about to a string of brush fires in the east bay. yesterday crews in contra costa county dealt with several wind whipping fires. about 500 acres burned in one hour near byron. this could be the beginning of a long summer for fire crews. >> more on the conditions firefighters are already facing. >> reporter: several units fanned out over a five-mile

stretch of bish road. this is where they spent most of the day trying to get control over what they call the grant fire. smoke and wind tar challenge for everyone trying to get around. >> it was scary because i didn't know where the smoke was coming from. >> byron road was shut down for a couple of hours so fire crews could mobilize resources. >> how long were you in traffic? >> an hour and a half. they had dead stop sitting here. >> wind pushed fires to spread fast. some embers managed to set railroad ties on fire. a few buildings were threatened that danger has passed. right now it's still not clear how a series of fires along the busy road were started. >> our investigators are looking at cause and s.e.c. webs of events that occurred this afternoon. right now it's under investigation. >> the wind is a concern for everyone. >> this is really bad. for the farmers out here, all of my friends are farmers, this is

very dangerous. >> "today in the bay." new allegations against a high school music teacher already facing sexual assault charges. christopher colby turned himself in two weeks ago due to allegations he ip appropriately touched a milpitas high school staff last year. a student is now claiming he did. he was rearrested on that charge. a story, you may learn more about the accused golden state killer. several media outlets want arrests and search warrants of joseph deangelo unsealed. the june says he's inclind to reveal some of the information. today the attorneys will debate what should be redacted. information could be released as early as tomorrow. happening today, the teenager accused of a deadly stabbing at sonoma state university is expected to appear

in court. two weeks ago police arrested tyler. police say he stabbed a 26-year-old acquaintance in a student dorm. witnesses told police it followed a loud altercation. brad told him he was defending himself. so far he has not entered a plea. a school district in upheaval. this could affect you in the south bay. tonight organizers are organizing an event to shape the future. the board is under intense scrutiny due to conflict of interest allegations in connection to construction contracts. many people also believe the board is in a power struggle with the district superintendent. tonight a grassroots group holds a voters forum ahead of next week's school board election. 4:35. how are your kids doing in the city? today we'll get details on the state of early child care and education in san francisco. a new report is due out at 10:00 this morning. overpass we looked back through

global headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street will look to add to yesterday's big rally. the markets surged more than 300 points as bank stocks rebounded from tuesday's losses. concerns about italy's political prices and potential ripple effect on europe and global economy appear to have eased for now. trade issues could be in focus today as the white house is reportedly set to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the european union. we'll also get reports on unemployment and housing this morning. ceo of uber says the company is in talks with google's self-driving car unit about a possible deal that uses technology on the uber app. this would be a major in uber and wamo. they haven't commented on the

current talks with uber. it plans to have rides in a fully self-driving car. consumer reports reversed its position and recommending tesla model 3. this comes after tesla released a software update to improve the vehicle's braking distance by nearly 20 feet consumer reports said model 3's braking was worse than any contemporary car we've tested. still issues with the car, such as reliance on touchscreen display but better braking was enough to warrant the recommendation. >> better brakes are a good thing. thanks so much, leslie. we asked this question to you a little bit earlier, which state has the highest credit card debt. this didn't surprise me at all. california. the most populated debt has the most debt at the tune of $106 billion. texas was number two with $67

as we get a look at that seven-day forecast, look at changes in temperatures. this is really crazy. 63 today and 80 tomorrow and 92 on saturday. let's just take it in this morning as you get ready to head out the door. it's going to be in the mid-50s, partly cloudy skies. a very slow warm-up today. we'll just see the sun peeking out from behind those clouds. our temperature trend in walnut creek will be mostly cloudy and 55 degrees through 8:00. at 11:00, only 61 degrees and upper 60s today. still going to be quite windy as well. so as you're getting dressed this morning, you do need a jacket and also pants. i'm sure you're wearing warriors colors. it's going to be a great day. you do have to stay warm to start out. our highs today will be very comfortable in the south bay reaching 69 in morgan hill, going to be gusty, open up the windows, let some of that cool air in. it will be 70 at antioch, winds coming in from the west at 10 to

15 miles an hour. in oakland today, 63 degrees. half moon bay 60, redwood city 64. san francisco mostly some upper 50s and gusty winds in the north bay. expect a high of 71 in napa. if you're making plans to head to the beach this weekend, it is going to be so nice. 76 degrees for tomorrow. also on saturday up to 74 degrees, really comfortable for our area beaches while the inland areas will be heating up. check out those highs for saturday and sunday in the 90s, but cooling down early next week. san francisco will be in the upper 60s throughout the weekend. is oakland jammed up? >> it is, kari. what we have is the clearing, in the process of clearing, road crews north of the coliseum, high street, 66, jammed all the way up, close to 23rd where that overnight crew is again in the process of clearing over the next few minutes.

wagner found that data to detect discrimination may be missing some key statistics. >> reporter: when you apply for a home loan, banks are required to ask, what's your race. lenders have to report that to the federal government. when we crunched the data, we found surprising results. one lender reporting data with race information missing. local cities rely on this to identify discrimination in their cities. cities like concord, part of the contra costa county home consortium. >> what does the lack of race or ethnicity mean in a county trying to do the analysis. >> it is hard for us to determine what the impacts are, who is being denied loans. it is harder to get at if there is unequal treatment. >> coming up tonight the mortgage lender at the center of this problem and explain why this trend could be catching on. that's tonight at 11:00 on nbc
