here's a live look outside in san jose. let's go to sunnyvale. 58 degrees at 7:00 and that nice cool start, we will be cooler as we go through the day. highs in the low 70s and a lot of sun there. here's a look at the highs today, upper 80s for antioch and coast will be up to 60 degrees and half moon bay. we'll talk more about the temperature spread and the rest of the week. mike, now you're tracking a crash in san bruno. >> we've seen the slowdown form as we have recovery still for 680 up towards jacqueline. all lanes are cleared out of milpitas and fremont. but this northbound 101 really a good backup forming over the last few past sfo and 380 where the connector is affected by a crash and it must be visible from 101 because folks are slowing as you approach causing the backup. 280 clear and 380 getting over there that's an option for you. the southbound as we talked about moving very smoothly, flashing lights -- they have a

couple of big trailers traveling northbound north of 680. should be heading towards the reflt of san jose and silicon valley over next few minutes. back to you guys. >> 6:01. we're following breaking news from overnight. a woman is recovering after she was hit by a car not far from spartan stadium. >> this happened on first and alma. no word on the victim's condition. it's unclear if police are investigating this as a hit-and-run. we'll continue to follow this breaking news and bring you the latest as soon as it comes in. >> developing in central america, brand-new video of rescues in guatemala after a volcano eruption there. this is video someone posted on twitter. you can see rescuers pulling people out on stretchers and there are also people carrying children to safety. just an example of a desperate search for survivors. if you're just catching up on this story, here's what we know.

volcano of fire erupt eed last night, 25 known dead and 300 hurt. entire towns are cut off right now. more than 3,000 people are evacuated. this is a volcano's most violent eruption in more than 40 years. >> no deaths in kilauea's eruption but lava is still flowing freely on the big island. you can see the flames there in the distance. three people trapped on sunday are now safe and the national guard had to air lift them out of an isolated area. officials urge people in those evacuation zones to actually get out. >> there was also a 5.5 magnitude earthquake yesterday. one of more than 500 mostly small earthquakes over the weekend. geologists say it is the most earthquakes recorded in a 24-hour period on that island. >> new this morning, leaders on the pennsylvania niinsula are t

technology. >> live in palo alto with a look at the new surveillance cameras about to be unveiled and this is the thing they are trying to do to save lives. >> they are. good morning to you, kris and mark u. you can see behind me, this is one location where those cameras are already installed. they are going through testing right now. expected to be operational within the next few weeks. when they are up and running, the new cameras equipped with thermal imaging will be on the lookout for people trying to stand or step in front of around oncoming tal train. the cameras are located at the four railroad crossings within the city limits namely at meadow drive. we're at the churchill crossing. watching from an offsite location and to call law enforcement if they see something unusual. they can speak through the pa to alert someone on the track. the city has been paying security guards to monitor crossing since around 2009

shortly after a number of teenagers committed suicide on the tracks. unlike the security guards, the new cameras can see 1,000 feet down the corridor and in the dark, rain or fog. >> we're hoping that not only will this provide better monitoring, ability to see much further down the tracks than the human eye but also in the long run to provide faster notification to law enforcement and be more cost effective. >> the nur cew cameras will save city money in the long run even though the cost to install is $1.45 million and $325,000 a year to operate. the city as i mentioned is testing new equipment and they expect to have these online operational sometime this month. reporting live in palo alto, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, bob. >> new this morning, it's really shaping up to be a busy summer for kim jong-un. the past two hours a kremlin

spokesman indicated that russian president vladimir putin recently invited north korea's leader to advice itd russia in september. one main reason for the visit will be to attend the economic forum which takes place in early september. president trump's north korean summit meanwhile is still scheduled for early next week. continuing coverage, now president trump taking to twitter following what has been a big political issue over the weekend. his power to pardon, this is from 20 minutes ago and reads as has been stated by numerous legal scholars, i have the absolute right to pardon myself but why would i do that when i have done nothing wrong. in the meantime, the never ending witch hunt led by 13 very angry and conflicted democrats and others continues into the midterm -- president trump's legal team pushing straight. all of this has to do with a memo leaked to "new york times." sent the memo to robert mueller in response to the russia probe.

they claim the president as the top law enforcement officer cannot obstruction justice and can shut down any investigation or pardon him self. some believe the president is trying to flex his muscles but other disagreed. >> the president continues to believe he's above the law and that's what they are arguing in this memo. >> it could lead to impeachment and if you terminate an investigation of himsel -- >> that is rudy giulii appearing on the weekend talkshows, he's clarifying what president trump himself seemed to be saying that he has no intention of pardoning himself. >> an update to a story we told you about a couple of months ago. today the man accused of making a christmas day terror plot on pier 39 in san francisco, will appear in court. everett aaron jameson pleaded not guilty in january. but in april his lawyers asked for a hearing to possibly change his plea. jameson was arrested on december 20th and stands accused of

planning a bombing and shooting at the pier. he reportedly revealed details of the plot to undercover fbi agents. >> piedmont may become a sanctuary city officially. the city council will vote on a resolution tonight. in a public notice the council says the resolution will simply affirm the longstanding practice of providing services regardless of immigration status. >> 6:07. for people who lost everything, the road back is going to be a long one. in many cases, it's still beginning, happening today a group called sonoma county rises will host a recovery summit. the aim of that group is to bring together city and county agencies and unite rise local organizations and the rebuilding process. today's event is focused on rebuilding santa rose and it takes place at 5:30 tonight. >> a live look right now at oracle arena. hoop fabs may be calling this the scene of the crime, you know

6 6:08. we're going to concord where yesterday we hit 99 degrees, it won't be as hot today. we'll be at 73 degrees at 10:00 and mid-80s for early afternoon and mostly sunny skies. and a live look outside in san francisco, we're getting ready for the giants game tonight. first pitch at 7:15, it's still going to be cool and super windy out there. those winds picking up from the west at about 25 miles per hour and temperatures in the 50s. we'll talk more about what's ahead for palo alto coming up. mike takes us to the peninsula for the morning drive. >> i have an update for the crash for highway 101. we want to show you 101 and san jose, a little build and most of the bay no problems. this is the slowing and the jam actually -- and i found the reason why. i misread one of the lines in the chp report and it is at the connector but it looks like it's just visible from highway 101 closing the connector from north 101 on to westbound 380. you have to use city streets to

able to turn the air conditioning off for parts of the bay area today. here's a live look outside in san jose as you get ready to start out on this monday morning. it's nice and cool. our temperatures go from the upper 50s at 7:00 to 76 degrees at noon. it won't be reaching into the 90s like yesterday. upper 70s today and the drive through the east bay starts out at 64 degrees at 8:00. 74 degrees at 11:00 and 78 degrees by early afternoon. 7-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen. today in nap pa valley, low 60 s and mostly sunny. yesterday it was super hotd but today lowe 80s. santa cruz in the low 70s today. still a good beach day if you are able to head there. and oakland today a 71 degrees and 65 in san francisco. antioch, 87 today and it's not going to reach into the triple

carlos gonzalez contacted us after his beauty rest warranty claim was denied. carlos says the bed began tearing at the seams less than a year after he bought it. we asked beauty rest why. it said that tearing was because the bed frame wasn't providing proper support and that voided carlos' warranty. beauty rest later agreed to restore the warranty provided carlos corrected the support issue. it also sent him a free mattress cover. >> quite often a mattress is a four figure investment, you have to ask detailed questions about the warranty. some manufacturers require the use of a box spring or similar support and might be a very significant definition of problems like sagging that must be met before they'll replace it. figure all of that out up front and if you don't like those conditions, well, just go ahead and look for another mattress. if you're losing sleep over a consumer problem, call us

8:00. then at 70 degrees at 10:00. reaching in the upper 70s today. the seven-ok day forecast shows wednesday only low 70s inland and warm up in time for the weekend. san francisco holds steady in the 60s throughout the week. we'll talk about the weekend in a few minutes. mike, you spotted a jam at the san mateo bridge. >> look at the lens behind me. it's kind of smeary here. we did have all of these cars and trucks stopped for just a couple of seconds. and then traffic started to move again. i think someone slammed on the brakes westbound. we see a slower drive all the way across as we look at the sense ters on the map. we see a jam to the toll plaza and building for the dumbarton bridge as well. a light build as well for san francisco and rest of silicon valley. northbound 101, we build the slowing from burlinggame, you saw it turn from yellow to orange, all the way up to 380 and connector past sfo.

the crash still blocks the connector. if you want to access 280, you have to jump over at millbrae with a better avenue there or further south through woodside if you get to 280 the sooner the better over here. as we get to the rest of the bay. there's oakland northbound past the kcoliseum. an earlier crash at 66, never showing up in the live camera and there was never slowing here either. >> that's good news. new this morning, take a look at this badly mangled car, the driver surprisingly did not survive that crash. the chp says the woman was driving the wrong way on interstate 680 in wall nut creek at 1:30 this morning when she struck the median. all lanes are open again at this hour. >> we're just one midday away from the primary election. the big question, have you filled out your ballot yet? starting today in contra costa, voters have a quicker easier way

newsom appealing to voters in southern california yesterday and then you have former los angeles mayor antonio villaraigosa, continuing later today as well. they'll decide whether to send dianne feinstein back to washington, d.c. for her fifth term. that will be a key race and another big measure to be voted on that will affect everyone here in the bay area will be reej nam measure three. that would increase tolls in seven state owned bridges to raise money for transportation projects aimed at reducing congestion. if approved, by 2025, you'll pay 8 bucks to cross most bridges in the bay area. that will be quite an increase. as far as the drive-thru, it will begin here in martinez on escobar where we're standing at 9:00 a.m. we're live in martinez, pete suratos for "today in the bay." stick with "today in the bay" for continuing election coverage. we have all of your election day news and results planned for

by high temperatures of the fire. more than 19,000 feet of new cable will be laid down and those new lines will be installed and running by the end of the year. >> a violent weekend in the elle certifica el cerrito b.a.r.t. station. 50-year-old carl johnston stabbed another man in the stomach. it is not clear what led to that or if the two knew each other. the victim was severely injured. >> did you have trouble breathing over the weekend? in the east bay air quality is still a concern this morning after this massive fire on saturday that happened at the schnitzer steel recycling facility in oakland. it appears a flammable residue on a car part started that fire. health officials are monitoring the air pollution levels there and inspectors plan to visit again this week to check for any potential violations. making your drive on the pen nens la safer, there's a growing push to improve an intersection

in palo alto. there's been a lot of accidents. this is near middlefield road and lincoln avenue right next to addison elementary school. there's only been about a dozen accidents since 2015 but people pushing for safer intersections say many accidents go unreported. they are calling for the city to do more. >> all right, just got word of a new crash on the east bay, we have one on either side of the water here. the south bay moves smoothly, seeing a little build in time for the commute to kick in. we're looking at southbound 880, the new crash around ma rena, chp still trying to get more detail and hopefully clear the lanes quickly but that is slowing now through san leandro if you'reccessing castro vall the peninsu slow out of burlingaim out of the crash. detail from chp says the three vehicle minor o injury crash causing a backup north 280

i turned it south and you can see it jamming up south of the tracks, we have a jammed traffic from 98th down to marina boulevard. the crash not an alert from chp, only couple lanes affected by this crash. they are just waiting for the right tow trucks to arrive but pretty quickly built out of san leandro and towards hayward. northbound there's likely a distraction but also the build coming off the castro valley, both areas converging on towards marina boulevard are a slower drive. on the peninsula, we have a change for speed patterns, better speeds flowing north past burli burlingame and i think they may have opened it but in the meantime if you can get to 280, use that if you have to head towards daly city out of san mateo. the rest of the bay shows a nice smooth drive and south bay has a little slowing northbound and that's mild compareded to what we often see. school is out for many districts now. looking northbound 101 with a

>> at least 25 people are dead and 300 others are hurt after a volcano eruption in gguatemala. this is video showing crews, rescue people. the volcano of fire erupted last night. entire towns are cut off. more than 3,000 people have evacuated. and people in hawaii can certainly empathize with the people in gaut hall ma. lava still flowing there. three people were trapped yesterday but now they are safe. the national guard lifted them out of the isolated areas. there were more than 500 earthquakes in that area over the weekend including 5.5 magnitude quake yesterday. fortunately no one has died in hawaii because of the volcano eruption. >> we learned russian president vladimir putin is inviting north korean leaders to visit russia. a kremlin spokesperson says putin invited kim jong-un to visit in september.

one main reason would be attend the eastern economic forum. the president trump's north korean summit meanwhile is still scheduled for early next week nch the man accused of plotting a christmas day terror attack in sfr san francisco is back in court. he pledded not guilty in january. in april his lawyers asked for a hearing to possibly change his plea. he was arrested on december 20th, accused of plotting a bombing and shooting at the pier and revealed details of his plot to undercover fbi agents. if you used ticket fly, that site is offline because of some sort of data breach. right now the only thing that ticket fly will confirm is that hackers stole user's personal information but we don't know exactly what they got their hands on. the breach disrupted services at live music venue. it impacted 26 million user accounts and site also indicates
