begins at 5. we wanna start w/ some breaking news. one of the bay area )s most legendary athletes has died. 49ers legend dwight clark has lost his battle with a-l-s clark )s wife "kelly" tweeted the news, less than a hour ago saying quote: "i )m heartbroken to tell you that today i lost my best friend and husband. he passed peacefully surrounded by many of the people he loved most. i am thankful for all of dwight )s friends, teammates and 49ers fans who have sent their love during his battle with als." clark )s last public appearance, was last october, when he was honored during halftime at the 49ers-cowboys game at levi )s stadium. it was swift decline... that was october of 2017. in march of 2017, clark acknowledged that he was fighting a-l-s... which is also known as )lou gehrig )s diseas. if you )ve been aroind here for a while... you know what he means to the

bay area... his iconic catch -- launched the 49ers dynasty. in the final minute against the cowboys -- montana to clark...and the rest was history. the 49ers advanced to their first ever super bowl... following the 1981 season. clark won another super bowl with the 49ers in 1984... before retiring in 1987. dwight clark passed away at his home in montana... which is somewhat fitting... considering he and joe montana were such good friends. clark was 61 years old. our other top story ... not the outcome some were hoping for. today, u-s the supreme court sided with a baker, who refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. the baker said, it went against his religious beliefs. nbc bay area )s robert handa is in san francisco, where this decision was tracked very closely. robert...there )s a verdict, but it didn )t really answer the

comes after weeks of reviewing hours of surveillance video. authorities say they now know who picked up a young woman waiting for a ride share car - and then violentally attacked her.

the sonoma county sheriff )s department says 33 year old "fredi lopez-flores" and 24 year old "christian quintero" forced the woman into their car, while she was waiting sheriffs o -- and 24-year-old christian pater roe, they say they forced the woman into their car while waiting outside the san francisco bar. they took her to panoma where they beat and sexually assaulted her. since its happened the police have been reviewing video. it captured both mennd matched the cell phone records of the woman's whereabouts. one is being held on bail on texas murder charges. a guilty plea on last year's plan -- pleaded guilty to trying to support a foreign -- she was arrested days before. the fbi says she attened a christmas day -- part of a deal

with prosecutors in return for today's plea james son will be innocenced to 15 years in prison. just in our newsroom, top cop is staying put today. lapd veteran, michael more of los angeles to be the police chief. he confirmed that san francisco's police chief was one of the finalist for thethe natio move its "pacific west regional office"... from san francisco, to vancouver, washington. the move would save the agency nearly $4 million a year... in rent, and lower employee salaries. the current office is located on bush street in san francisco... and is home to roughly 150 workers. the agency )s san francisco leae ends in 20-21. late today senator dianne feinstein released a

called "bay area exodus" begin? out investigative unit analyzed the census data, and found out more people started moving out of the state ... in 2016. in the years before that, the data shows between 2011 and 2015, more people moved into the bay area than out of it. during that time period, we gained, more than 16-thousand residents. but the trend flipped the next year. from 2016 to 2017, the bay area had a net loss of almost 24,000 residents. they either moved to other parts of california or the u-s. we have a more detailed breakdown of that census information on our website, nbc bay area dot com slash we investigate.

they )re off the streets... for now. those scooters -- that have popped up across san francisco... are being pulled. the 3 major companies -- )bird ), )lime ) and )spin )o remove them by today... after the city called for a temporary ban on the electric motorized scooters. the companies now have until thursday, to apply for a permit, that helps regulate the budding business. the scooters have gotten a divided response. some people like them as an easy way to get around town. but there are plenty of complaits about them being left, in the middle of sidewalks and streets. think of this as the super bowl -- for appl.e the annual developers conference kicked off today with dozens of updates and thjouysna of peopl -- flooding the streets, restananrs abd hotels of san jose. our business and tech reporter scott budms in san jose

"linda thomas" was found hanging from the top bunk in her cell at the "west county detention facility" in richmond. in 2015, she traveled from washington-state to rodeo, in the east bay, where she shot and killed her sister and tried to killer her brother in law.

she was convicted last month. before leaving washington, she paid for her own obituary at a local newspaper. facebook is under fire again . a new report reveals how partnerships with other companies may give those companies access to user information. snapping a photo with your phone and sharing it on facebook is an example of how phone makers have parterships with facebook. some 60 companies like apple, amazon and blackberry partner with facebook. a new york times investigation shows over the past decade, facebook gave those companies access to personal information, including relationship status, religion and political leaning. facebook )s v-p of "product partnerships" responded in a statement, saying "friends ) information, like photos, was only accessible on devices when people made a decision to share their information with those friends. we are not aware of any abuse by
