new reaction and what's ahead today. and your shot of the morning as "early today" starts right now. good morning. i'm phillip mena. >> good to be with you on a tuesday. i'm frances rivera. we begin with overnight developments in the russia probe. president trump's former campaign chairman paul manafort now being accused of witness tampering and could spend the next several months behind bars. court documents filed by robert mueller allege manafort attempt itted to dahl and tex using encrypted messaging happens two people na worked for the hapsburg group. >> manafort continues to face charges of money laundering, bank fraud, and failing to register as a foreign agent. he's been under house arrest since his arraignment last fall. now federal prosecutors are looking to revoke or modify paul manafort's bail following those allegations of witness tampering. if a judge agrees to have a hearing on the issue, she could

revoke manafort's bail. that would put former trump campaign chairman in jail at least until his trial this fall in washington. manafort's team had no immediate comment for nbc when reached. meanwhile, the wife of a former trump campaign aide who pleaded guilty in october to lying to the fbi about russian contacts during the campaign is now pleading with the president. the wife of george papadopoulos went on fox news last night to directly address the commander in chief. >> i honestly know how much dedicated and committed he was in the trump campaign. i know he did an excellent job. i know he's -- because of this incident, his freedom is challenged. so i trust and hope and ask to president trump to pardon him. i hope he will. >> george papadopoulos is currently cooperating with federal investigators in the russia probe. canceled. the president saying in a late night tweet, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event.

president trump could at some point pardon himself. on what was day 500 of his presidency, he's still fuming about what's loomed over much that time, the russia investigation. phillip? >> peter, thank you. in a highly 'ed decision, the u.s. supreme court has ruled in favor of a colorado baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, citing religious freedom. supporters of the american civil liberties union, which represented the couple and others, gathered outside the supreme court to protest the decision, which comes during pride month. the decision is a victory for the baker, but it was a narrow one and fails to answer some larger constitutional questions. nbc's jennifer johnson hashe details. >> reporter: the supreme court handed a narrow victory to a colorado berefused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because of his religious beliefs. but that couple, charlie craig andave mullens say they have

bitter divorce, started thursday with the execution of dr. steven pitt. our phoenix affiliate reporting the psychiatrist conducted a mental health evaluation on the suspect during h divorce. >> visited with your husband a couple days ago for about four hours. >> reporter: thisvideo, which appears to have been posted by the suspect on youtube, seems to show dr. pitt interviewing the suspect's ex-wife. after killing pitt, police say the gunman shot two paralegals friday at the law firm of his ex-wife's divorce attorney. >> someone took a very good person and left two boys with no mo that's sad. >> reporter: sunday, police discovered their fourth victim, marshal levine, a counselor who worked in the same building where the gunman reportedly was seeing a therapist. at this home, detectives are investigating another double murder connected to jones.
