7:09 am
>> it's ticked up for a couple reasons. i think the biggest is the perception of the economy and the credit that voters in this survey give the president's policies for the improved economy. that's driving it more than anything. what is also interesting. the president has a narrow trading range. he's never really broken 45 in our pom. he never drops below 38. he is on the high range and one of the reasons is that economy and another reason is, his base is just getting more supportive of him. his numbers have improved among republicans. his number versus improved among those in rural america. basically, the base that got him to the presidency love him more than ever. but he's not doing well with other parts of the republican coalition. >> that sets up the question of the mid-terms. that's the next time we're going to have a big election in this country. he is not on the ballot and you do the gen eric test, would you rather see republicans or democrats in congress? what do your polls show?
7:10 am
>> our poll shows a big league for democrats. we show them at 10. this is the highest we've shown this year. it's been driven largely by one group of voters. that is suburban women. particularly suburban white women. they voted with the republicans in the waves of 2010, 2014, we saw them move away a bit from donald trump in 2016. and now we're seeing them move more so to the democrat. >> that more than any other voting group is the group that is giving democrats such opt mitch about their chances in november. >> we'll see how it all shakes out. i'm sure have you the days memorized until election day. good to be with you. >> all right. guys, thanks. also this morning, search and rescue efforts are being hampered as the death toll rises once again. some of the injured are flown into the u.s. for emergency treatment. nbc news' gabe gutierrez is in guatemala for us now. good morning. >> reporter: hoda, good morning.

7:12 am
he last saw his wife and kids before he went to work. then the volcano exploded. the debris seems to be everywhere. before this luxury resort boasted of stunning views. now it's covered in a thick blanket of ash. thousands of people are packed, into emergency shelters. how big is the need here? >> well, i think it's really big. mainly because of the lack of medicine and lack of sanitation. as can you see in most of the shelters, they're really, really crowded. there is lack of water. it's heart breaking. a lot of families lost everything. >> a lot of those images, gabe, are devastating. i guess people are wondering, is the worst over? >> reporter: hoda, that's unclear, rescue teams tell us the volcano is still active. so new eruptions are possible. they are essentially risking their lives by going to some parts of the mountain. but the rescue teams tell us they are doing everything they can to try and bring some small bit of closure to those
