>> warmer than yesterday, not as windy and we're going to have a very comfortably warm day. as we get a live look in san francisco, we see the sun rising and nice purple color there at the top of the salesforce tower. no fog. it's in the upper 50s as you step out the door there. upper 40s for the north bay. a look at the morning commute for the peninsula, it will start out in the mid-50s and very nice for the afternoon, early 60s by early afternoon. we'll talk about the weekend ahead in a few minutes and mike tracking two spots for slowing. >> the flashing lights right there. see that. that's just south of university approaching em bebarcadero wher the road crews continue to block lanes. as they are clearing, we'll talk about the slowest before the clear for the traffic flow southbound right now. should be another ten minutes of this slowdown and so instead of traveling south through palo alto and menlo park, you can just take 280 if that's an option for you. it's a great option. look at any other roadway is

clear right now as traffic flows very smoothly, almost any other spot. here westbound 80 the east shore freeway still slow approaching hilltop because of the fast lane blocked by an earlier crash. still with activity there. there's minor slowing out of hercules and san pablo and richmond and berkeley towards the bay bridge, just fine. no problems there. richmond bridge, we're looking at the bay bridge with backup for the cash lanes and highway 4 moves nicely as well. remember as i earlier reported, capitol corridor service has been stopped right now because of a freight train crash out in davis but it does affect some folks coming into the area. you might want to make some calls. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike, breaking news this morning. celebrity chef and talk show host aroundthy bourdain is dead at the age of 61. cnn confirms bore dain committed suicide. bourdain was working in france on an upcoming series of the cnn series. a close friend found him

unresponsive he apparently hanged himself. fashion and hand bag designer kate spade also committed suicide. her death was also a shock to people around the world. we will continue to follow the breaking news and bring you the latest as soon as it comes up. but in the meantime, a new study just released from the cdc yesterday found that suicide rates are up 30% across the country since 1999. if you or someone you know needs help, someone is always available to talk. 1-800-273-8355 is the national suicide prevention hot line and it is free and confidentiality and if you don't want to call them, you can always talk to somebody, anybody. >> to a story we have been following overnight, the tragedy on i-680 after a crash that left a child dead. >> sharon katsuda joins you us from sunol. it happened in a construction

zoe zone, a familiar place to people who get around in that town. >> reporter: that's right. i drive through here all the time and it seems there's always construction or street cleaning going on. do be careful out here. you can see traffic is flowing well but it was a nightmare earlier this morning. there's a construction zone just north of here near calaveras road, traffic was slowing down when the driver of a black dodge according to chp apparently fell asleep at the wheel and hit a white toyota corolla at a high rate of speed. it then crashed into a gray ford. the 8-year-old child who died of injuries was in the corolla, apparently drugs and alcohol were not involved. when it comes to sleepy driving, aaa says 35% of drivers out there don't get the recommended seven hours of sleep. do be careful. this is a little warning for everyone. recording live, sharon katsuda,

"today in the bay." >> thanks, sharon. a disturbing story getting a lot of attention a san francisco arrested of killing and dismembering her roommate is expected in court for the first time. 47-year-old lisa gonzalez used a hacksaw to kill margaret mamer. she told them they argued because she refused to move out of the mission apartment. the victim's friends say she may have lost her life because she couldn't afford san francisco's high rent. >> we want to start with good news for you, facebook and other tech companies continue to hire in a big way. the downside here, more traffic in silicon valley and on the dumbarton bridge. so what's the solution to ease that traffic? facebook is teaming up with san trans, and the plan is to add bus and pedestrian options on the dumbarton bridge and renovate the railroad bridge from the east bay to the peninsula. san trans says upgreating

108-year-old bridge would cost about a billion dollars. a pit bull and row boat and fast moving fire, an officer commandeered a boat to rescue a dog. he coached the frightened dog to him just in time. the boat was almost immediately engulfed in flames. that dog was reunited with his grateful owner and that hero officer is getting a whole lot of love and praise and probably a lot of tail wags too. >> the world's fastest rodeo is about to turn into one of the oldest. the livermore rodeo kicks off this weekend, turns 100 years old. cowboy started it in 1918 to help raise money for the red cross effort during world war i. today it still raises thousands of dollars for local charities and scholarships and tries to preserve the western way of life. >> are people surprised it's

and the san mateo bridge moves very nicely. sun coming up kind of showing you a little bit of that high rise in the distance. it does look like we have a fair number of cars but they are at speed there. also at speed, the approach towards the bay bridge but watching the upper east shore freeway, top number shows 15 minutes from highway 4 but you have to pass a crash which still has activity over there in san pablo. be careful hill top drive. i'll bring you the latest there and slowing on the penpeninsula. there it is, southbound 101 with tail lights jamming up, trying to clear cones but right now you're trying to get through there. back to you. >> 5:14 now, you might want to tip more after you hear this story. new this morning, seven bay area restaurants are facing $10 million in fines for not paying their workers enough. the labor commissioner's office says japanese seafood and buffet and burma ruby in palo alto and

the watch party for the warriors and it's going to be quite busy in the area. a head's up that you'll want to make sure you get there early and the temperatures are going to be nice, mid-60s and low 60s by the end of the game. as we get a look at all of the high temperatures it's, mid-60s for san francisco, 60 at half moon bay oakland high of 72 degrees and concord 83. we'll be in the upper 70s as well as much of the south bay. and then as you make plans, maybe you'll be traveling this weekend and a head's up there will be rain across the pacific northwest and it's really going to be quite wet for seattle and moving into far northern california if you're going up to redding or mt. shasta, there will be scattered showers tomorrow. for us, we're going to see a few more clouds moving in and that will keep it cooler a little bit of a dip in temperatures before it heats up early next week. 75 the high with partly cloudy skies and 83 on sunday with sunshine. 90 on monday.

it's going to reach into the mid-90s by tuesday but a big cooldown in time for the end of the week. san francisco 64 today, fog tomorrow and then for monday, looking at 71 degrees. a nice start to the workweek. as we head over to mike, we have slow moving cones to report. >> or at least slow moving the cones. i want to make a comment about how folks are doing their work. it's taken a while for cones to get picked up adding complication we don't usually see this configuration. the right lanes are blocked at the on ramp getting on to south 101 merging with the jam, even worse as you head south towards the embarcadero. traffic is loosening up past the overcrossing where they are doing the work. we continue to see the slowing. southbound 101 heading out of pal lo -- menlo park in through palo alto and past willow university and easing up right here. as the slower drive stretches out longer, now moving the cone

votes. here are the latest results from the city's department of elections. as you can see on pt tv screen, both supervisor london breed and former senator mark leno have 74,000 votes each but breed is closing the gap between her and leno who know home leads by 255 votes. two days ago he was leading by 1100 votes. san francisco uses ranked choice voting where voters pick their top three candidates. if no one gets 50% of the first place votes in the first count, voters second and third choices come into play. supervisor breed does have the most first place votes but not enough to meet the 50% threshold. there are hows that need to be counted and the city says it could take days perhaps weeks to finalize the count and certify a winner whoever wins will make history. leno would be san francisco's first openly gay mayor. breed the city's first african-american mayor who's a woman. reporting live here outside san

also having a watch party. towards university, there's the off-ramp and that's the triangular split there, another car breakdown as folks try to help out. these folks are moved over because they are losing a lane or two as you head south. this is where the big bottleneck is through the area out of menlo park and towards pel alo alto. it says road crews are scheduled to completely clear at 5:45. so they have a couple more minutes until they clear that. rest of the bay does move nicely but even look at the bay bridge, we have a backup but it's friday light so it's just filling in for everything -- >> all about the money. >> all about the cash. >> all about the weekend. a lot of people have activities. >> it's going to be such a busy weekend. we've got great weather whether you're heading to the coast it's going to be cool there. a few more clouds but upper 70s for the inland areas and sunday a little warmer for the valleys and the bay at 78 degrees.

before seen archives and features interviews with friends and family of williams, not only a bay area icon but international star. he took his life by suicide in august of 2014 in his north bay home. dog lovers listen up, there is a sigh of relief. you remember that van full of show dogs stolen in redding, it has been found and all of those dogs are safe and accounted for. this was a tearful reunion yesterday as 14 dogs and their trainers were reunited at the redding humane society. that nightmare began tuesday as the trainers were traveling from seattle to vallejo for a show. they stopped at the redding for lunch there at the restaurant and that's when someone snatched the van with the dogs inside. police found the van this morning in a field outside of redding. the dogs were all inside, hot of

noon we're at 77 and 80 at 1:00 today. here's a look at the high temperatures today, livermore reaching 80 degrees and 79 in sng and palo alto. 64 in san francisco. still quite windy and in the north bay up to 85 degrees in napa. we will have a warm start to the weekend and so as you're stepping out the door grab a light jacket before the rest of the day. short sleeves and shorts if you're able to make it to the beach, it's going to be really nice will as well. as we look at the satellite and radar, if you're traveling across the region there is a cold front and also scattered showers from washington down to oregon. and this will start to creep its way into far northern california around redding and lake shasta, farther north we'll see rain chances there but for the rest of the bay ar, we will just see anreas in cloud cover and some slightly cooler temperatures tomorrow. no rain in the forecast but 75 and then we're back up to 83

degrees on sunday for the inland valleys. then we start out next week with hot 90s for three days and then a big cooldown on thursday. so it's good that we'll get relief there. it won't stay for a long period of time. in san francisco will go from 64 today to low 70s early flenext week. it's still jammed through palo alto. >> it is, this is where overnight road crews are doing something for drivers over here. heading south on 101. you'll notice folks are shifted over to the left but folks at the very crowded university on ramp have to close through the blocked area and merge with two lanes and farther south as you pass under the construction, the overcrossing there, that will make you shift over to the right because work is being done in the median. there's a snaking action that goes on any way overnight and now we have i think that flashing truck -- i thought i saw it starting to pick up these koenz, we have the slowing drive here from men lo down through palo alto and past willow all

traffic on one of the worst bott 5:55. caltrans is trying to reduce traffic on one of the worst bottlenecks in northern california. this is the elevated stretch of hixt i have 80 heading towards sacramento. if you ever have driven to the sierra, you've been stuck in traffic there. caltrans holding a series of meetings to talk about getting rid of the major delays, adding buses and car pool lanes in each direction. there's also looking for better ways of merging. >> the high cost of housing is apparently causing a baby bust here in the bay area. a new study from zillow, a lot of folks in the bay area are waiting longer to have kids. the fertility rate is dropping around the country and faster in places where housing prices are increasing like they are here. researchers say every 10% increase in home values is associated with a 1.5% drop in birth rates.
