5:01 am
i have done a little digging, chp is reporting what appears to be still a bit of a traffic issue considering two lanes are blocked along northbound 101 at university avenue. this is involving two vehicles that appears to be a mini van and another smaller vehicle. one of those cars is blocking one of the lanes but the good news is chp is reporting that now tow trucks are on the scene. as of right now i'm not seeing delays due to the accident which is good news considering the tow truck is already there. i'll send it back to you. >> thank you very much. 5:01. breaking news north america scored overnight. world cup is coming to the u.s. in 2026. >> part of a joint bid with canada and mexico. cup tomorrow which will air on our partner station telemundo 48. this is the tweet that cannot contain the excitement of the bid committee. united 2026 reads the world will unite in north america. u.s. soccer is returning to our shores and it's been decades. the united bid committee show indicationed the bay area as one of the host cities and you can see them here on the map. but noting that our area in particular has a half million kids in the region that play soccer and also noted the fact that we are a very diverse and inclusive region. the world cup 2026 will be the largest one ever with 48 teams playing 80 games. 60 of those matches will happen here in the u.s. ten will go to mexico, ten will go to canada. we're talking about 16 stadiums
5:03 am
all like levi stadium already built. now they have to be whitled down from a list of more than 23. if you're not a soccer fan, this would be like the united states getting an olympic bid except that it's even bigger than that because it is a worldwide event. even if you don't play soccer, your kids do other sports, you will definitely feel the excitement here. i did post a question on my facebook page and my twitter feed. let me know what you think about the world cup coming to the bay area in 2026. kris sanchez, quts it's today in the bay. >> that will be cool, thanks so much, kris. >> our sister station telemundo 48 is the home for coverage beginning tomorrow morning starting at 4:30 as uruguay faces off against egypt. people in walnut creek might have seen a lot of firefighters in their neighborhood. this is because of a fire there, a house fire killed and elderly

5:05 am
this was a two-alarm fire. the fire department had it knocked down in 30 minutes according to the captain. one of the biggest obstacles were the solar panels, made it difficult to cut through the roof and bent the fire, one of the techniques they use to get the fire out quickly. the house is a loss and there is an investigator out here right now who is trying to figure out what caused this deadly fire. reporting live in walnut creek, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> very tragic, thank you, bob. it is 5:05. president trump back on u.s. soil. as far as he's concerned, it's a dawn of a new era for north korea. president touching down at andrews air force base three hours ago, back from his historic summit with kim jong-un. here's a tweet reading, just landed along trip but everybody can now feel much safer than the day i took office. there is no longer a nuclear threat from north korea. meeting with kim jong-un was an interesting and very positive

5:40 am
all the way through third street. heavy delays off of there. i would say jump off and take service streets and hop on after the oakland street area. we're also seeing another crash along eastbound 84 before the dumbarton bridge toll plaza. the shoulder is blocked. not seeing as many heavy delays there but it could cause issues as we head towards the 6:00 a.m. hour. tri-valley drive times, a quick update on westbound 580 at grant line road. it looks like that is recovering now at 23 minutes. if we head outside and take a live look in some of the spots that are really delayed. including the bay bridge camera showing metering lights are on for quite some time. heavy delays because of that crash blocking a lane. definitely seeing heavy delays in the south bay. >> that's right, cooler temperatures right now. as of right now, it's the time to get things done, go out for a run. it will be heating up today and
