so let )s get today started right. it is friday. so close to that weekend finally. let's get it started right. taking a live look outside overlooking downtown san jose, a cool start to our friday morning. good morning, thanks for joining us, i'm laura kbar sgarcia. >> i'm marcus washington. >> much cooler for the inland areas and looking forward to a lot of sunshine away from the coast. the coast will be cloudy today. as we look at our south bay temperatures today, gilroy will be up to 75 degrees. 77 in mill meet 77 in antioch. upper 60s for san mateo. palo alto 77. low 60s for north bay reaching today. it is going to be really

comfortable and this is the kind of weather we'll see for the weekend. we'll have a look at the morning commute as you head out the door. >> friday light commute right now. very quiet out on the roads. you can see the speed sensors not seeing slowing, even in the troubled spot from tracy, but if we look outside, i do want to show you this live cam in palo alto. that's because we're seeing some construction. this is along northbound side of 101 and palo alto. you can see we've got delays in this area. they've got those construction cones and typically they like to get a lot of their work done overnight and early morning hours. my guess is that they should clear that out5:30 rolls around. i'll send it back to you. >> thanks, youut on one of the busiest b.a.r.t. lines and it was on a moving train with passengers inside. >> pete suratos live at the concord b.a.r.t. station. what happened out there, pete?

>> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. a bizarre set of circumstances here. you have a knife fight taking place on a b.a.r.t. train. that had to be a scary time for passengers and we're standing here at the concord b.a.r.t. station because this is where that arrest was finally made. let's go ahead and show you the video from the scene. i believe that you've got the suspect being arrested as well as that victim being attended to. now, it did take place on an antioch bound train coming from san francisco. so now you have one man in custody and another man suffering a cut to hand in the fight according to b.a.r.t. police and they are saying it was reported just before 11:00 p.m. last night. that train specifically had to stop for ten minutes while to the b.a.r.t.'s police chief telling the san franciscor chronicle there was a downward trend but stats show and crease in aggravated saulassaults.

county will take a final vote to speed up the processing of rape kits. the goal is to add two positions and $300,000 to the district attorney's project. this would allow the district attorney's office to contract with an outside company to process 200 kits which have been in the crime lab for more than four months. it would be a one time deal. the added positions are intended to make sure future kits are processed within 30 days. right now the average wait is 94 days. >> 4:36 right now. it might affect your morning commute. tomorrow a big first step for the future trans bay transit city. some of muny's largest lines will start using the bus plaza.n san francisco, the lines are probably familiar to you,he 38 geary lines will all start operated perfect muny's street level plaza between fremont and bill street. this is a sort of sort opening. the four story facility likely

announce new round of tariffs which could spark a trade war between washington and beijing. also look for economic data on manufacturing and the consumer. dow slipping 25 points to 25,175 and nasdaq grew to a new record high. it's official at&t's purchase of time warner is a done deal. the justice department says it won't pursue an injunction to stop the merger although it could still appeal a court ruling earlier this week allowing the two companies to move forward. the deal combined the massive internet distribution with time warner's giant libraryhwoothers not only sell access to the content and targeted ads based on customer data. apple may be getting into the movie business. the company is close to a deal for an animated film that could get a release in theaters. that would qualify for oscar

and we've got to get marcus' video next. let's get out the door this morning. let's get the friday started. temperatures in the upper 50s around the bay area. let's head to walnut creek.ower what we've seen earlier. 7-day forecast up at the bottom of the screen as you check that in walnut creek, low 70s for the middle of the day. it's going to be much more comfortable. a few spots hitting the low 80s like antioch and concord. meanwhile other areas for the coast and the inner bay will be in the 6 0e's and 70s, palo alto 77 today and 78 in san jose. napa, santa rosa, 79 degrees. as we start out this morning, you look out the window, a good one to start out with, a light jacket but maybe light long sleeves but gd

option. you'll notice that the winds will be a lot stronger today. if you're going out to the alameda county fair cattle drive, that's going through downtown pleasanton today. and it's going to start out with upper 60s, very nice weather. sunshine and we'll reach the upper 70s once again there today. and then tomorrow in san francisco, we're celebrating everything philippino and lower 60s throughout the day and sunshine. you'll want to check that out in union square. as we get a look what's happening here. here's the tropical storm bud that's spreading moisture acrosn california, arizona and as well as new mexico. we'll see the rain moving into those areas so desperately need the rain. we're going to stay all dry as our weather continues to stay very comfortable for the next few days. but it will be heating up next week. we're looking at upper 80s and 90 degrees by the middle of next week. sunny skies in san francisco,

low 60s continue into the forecast through father's day. vianey has been tracking the morning commute so far. the only problem has been through palo alto, right? >> that's right, it still seems to remain that way. right now if we look at the overall bay area, the speed sensors looking great, we've got a couple of slow spots here and there but no accidents at this hour. your peninsula drive times though not looking too slow out there. despite that construction, i'll show you a live picture but i did want to give you drive times, southbound 101 from vanness, 11 minutes we're seeing slowing from highway 92 to bauers avenue. i want to show you, a live cam of some of that construction that we had earlier. look at that. now it looks like it's cleared out quite nicely. we had the construction cones laid out across the 101 southbound side but now they've cleared that out just in time. i want to give another live look at dublin. this one seems to be getting sen it back to you.

>> thanks, vianey. happening today, the kids behind the march for our lives movement are hitting the road to get young people registered to vote. that youth movement was started by students who survived that mass shooting in parkland, florida. the group's main purpose is to push for gun control. organizers for more than 4 million people turned 18 years old this year. and are eligible to vote in the november mid-term elections. >> it is 4:49. we could soon see tin city to house more mig grant children. the administration says a facility will be near el paso texas and have 450 beds. since the trump administration implemented its new zero migrant children being taken away from their parents has skyrock skyrocketed. all existing facilities are overflowing with children. >> catholic leaders in the united states are condemning the decisions being made by the white house. part of a statement from the leader of the u.s. conference of catholic bishops read separating

babies from their mothers is not the answer and is immoral. cardinal daniel dinardo issued the statement. in the south bay yesterday, father john petigo helped lead a vocal protest outside san jose city hall. hundreds attended. petigoss has spent years working with immigrant families in san jose. >> you cannot use any form of scripture to justify the brutality that's happening. >> yesterday's event in sng coincided with similar protests across the country. this is just the worst fear for someone who is already fearful of roller coasters. ten riders needed to be rescued from that ride derailed. this was in daytona beach, florida. two fell 30 feet to the ground. others were dangling there. six of them went to the hospital. investigators are really trying to figure out why that coaster went off the tracks. and talk about an open container on the highway, take a look at this right here, that is

won't warm things up too much as the cooling trend is upon us. good morning and thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we want to look at what's happening outside before you head out the door. kari, we've been talking about the cooldown all week. >> so nice this weekend, only 70s for the inland valleys and going to be cool and windy for the coast. if you've got beach plans this weekend, might want to wait until next weekend. let's take a live look in san jose where we start out with mostly clear skies, santamid-50 up in the low 70s by noon. nice day to take the lunch outside as the high in san jose will reach 79 in napa and 63 in san francisco. we'll talk about the weekend forecast coming up and vianey has a look at the morning commute. >> unfortunately we were doing great in terms of accidents but nouf we've got a big issue and chp issued a sigalert westbound

580. all lanes are currently blocked. chp reporting what could possibly be an overturned big rig blocking all lanes. they don't have any of those lanes open. we're not quite sure how long that's going to remain closed but our assignment desk is making phone calls as far as injuries. we also do not know at this point if somebody was injured but it was involving a semi and couple of other vehicles. we'll keep a close eye on this. is gridlocked coming in from tracie through the dublin area. all lanes remain blocked. taking a look at the tri-valley drive times, we're starting to see some slowing but i can only imagine this is going to get extremely
