hours. by 9:00 we're at 62 degrees and a lot of sunshine and highs today in the upper 70s and low 80s, not bad at all. we're going to see those highs up to 83 degrees in livermore. 82 in napa and san francisco 62 degrees. but heading into the weekend, it is going to be hot, hot, hot. i'll have a look at that forecast coming up. mike it's an easy build to the commute, right. >> i don't like the sound of that. moving nicely and mild slowing in the tri-valley. travel times off of 580 slowing out of grant line road and things ease up towards livermore. no problems, just a little bit for 84 cutting through pleasanton as well. the east shore freeway only 21 minutes from highway 4 but the backup is at the toll plaza and it is also affecting west 580 out of the maze. for more big news in the city, i'll send it back to you guys. >> 6:00 right now. we begin with breaking news, a driver crashes 30 feet into an

apartment building, this is in san francisco's inner richmond. you can see the major damage left behind there. pete suratos is live at the scene this morning. you've been at the scene since we came on air at 4:30. break down what you've been able to find out about this. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus, according to san francisco police, saying the delivery truck the driver of the delivery truck loses control of driving here and into this apartment complex garage on the 400 block. you see it looks to be about 30 feet or so inside of this garage that wie're looking at. showing you scene video, one of the more active scenes earlier this morning. according to police it happened roughly around 3:30 a.m. where we're standing. the driver losing control and driving into the garage. in the video you're seeing there, the jaws of life were actually used to extri indicate them from this delivery truck. his injuries are being described as life threatening according to police.

here's one person who lives next to this apartment complex had to say about the crash. >> i work up goike up going to bathroom and heard a big crash and felt my building shake. my roommate woke up an we base beingally ran into the window to see what was going on. didn't see anything so we base beingally went outside and we walked down here and then we saw a couple of people pointing to this crash over here. >> police are not saying if they are treating this as a dui at this point but say the driver may have been asleep at the wheel. that's according to the police i spoke to at the scene. as for noekz in this complex, there are no injuries to anyone but fire crews did evacuate them through a fire escape. you can see here looking at the damage, we're being told the utilities are shut down in the building as well as this crash still under investigation. we're live in san francisco, pete suratos, for "today in the bay." >> thanks so much for that

update. >> at 6:02. new this morning, a fight outside of an east bay bar turns deadly overnight. it happened outside the sons of liber liberty ale house. four people left the bar and got into a fight. two men were stabbed. one died at the scene. the other is in the hospital. the two attackers then took off. so far no arrests. to washington, d.c. this morning, once again the immigration battle is the top story. president trump describing the situation at the border as nasty and ugly. >> as we've been showing you all week, immigrant parents are being separated from their children. the president went to capitol hill and told republicans if they can get enough votes to fix the problem, he'll sign it. qu"today in the bay's" tracie potts joins us for what is next. >> good morning, everyone, they are still trying to work that

cleaning up conditions at the b.a.r.t. station. recent video showing some of the problems went viral. commuters at time stepping over and through people that were just passed out in the hallway. many of them intravenous drug users. sometimes even used needles seen thrown around. later this morning, mark farrell will roll out a new plan joined by the police department. moving a little closer to a final iszed plan for the long talked about grade separation project. it would involve moving the train tracks off of street level to improve traffic flow. palo alto weekly reports last night council members took some options off the table over concerns they could lead to imminent domain seizures. the problem is still years away from even starting and likely will not be finished for at least a decade. keeping you safe this fourth of july. with the dry conditions in contra costa county, firefighters want you to be extra cautious with those

fireworks. to drive things home for you right now. yesterday the contra costa county district demonstrated what happens when tinder dry grass and fireworks meet. it was not a pretty sight. even a common sprinkler ignited within seconds and all fireworks are illegal in every part of contra costa county. >> we're seeing the low clouds all over the bay area. if you're going to be heading out to at&t park today for the early afternoon giants game, it's going to be in the low 60s. we will start to see some clearing then and then throughout the rest of the afternoon very nice as our skies clear not only there but at the also alameda county fair. you bring in a clothing donation, you can get in for free and the rides are a dollar. it's going to be in the upper 70s for early afternoon. but it will get warm, up to 80 degrees by 3:00 today and cooling down nicely with breezy winds for the evening. in martinez, we'll start out at

slowing. >> happy wednesday to you. history has been made as general electric seeing -- from the dow industrials, been with them since 1896 when the index was invented. disney says it's going to raise its bid to buy parts of 20th century fox to 70 billion, outbidding comcast. comcast owns this tv station. tesla claims its the victim of sabotage. musk says he caught an employee sab tour and that employee may be connected to a wider conspiracy. we questioned law enforcement all over california starting with fremont police where the factory is. they said tesla did not inform them of the crime. tesla headquarters in palo alto and they say it's first they've heard of it. in sparks nevada, the sheriff says tesla did not contact him. it is possible tesla contacted the fbi or u.s. attorney.

the four-story facility isn't expected to be fully open until august at the earliest. happening today, san francisco's battle against sand accumulation gets kicked up a notch. crews start the annual relocation of sand along the great highway. teams will move 8,000 cubic yards of sand along one stretch of ocean beach. this means a lot of lay -- one lane of southbound traffic between lincoln and sloj will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day as the work goes on and that may take up to eight days. >> it's amazing too see the buildup year after year. >> some people can't hold their beer. literally. it happened during last night's game between pittsburg pirates and the milwaukee brewers, player fouls one high as you see it there. bam, hits that beer right out of the viewer's hand there. can you imagine that? what accuracy. >> it exploded on top of the

south bay, it will be nice and cool, 7:00 we're at 57 degrees. it will be comfortable. i think the most comfortable at about 10:00 today with some sunny skies and then warming up but still not bad at all. 76 degrees at 2:00 today at some of our parks and mild and breezy for the evening. here's a look at the highs today. it will be very warm in morgan hill with a high of 85 degrees. looking at upper 80s for much of the each bay from antioch to concord in danville, 85 degrees while hayward reaches 73 degrees. it will be cool and cloudy for half moon bay. only peeks of sunshine and in redwood city, 74 degrees for our high today. marina district at 57 degrees and 77 today in novato. today we do still have our ocean breeze kicking in giving us the natural air conditioning and it's going to be still breezy for the north bay. those winds at about 25 to 30 miles per hour in santa rosa. then as we head towards friday,

bay casino and hotel. water just gushing from the ceiling in the convention center area. the leak initially reported to be in the south convention center building but soon after, water began spreading so quickly. the conference attend ees were ushered to safety doors through the side of the building. they determined that a water main break in the loading dock caused the leak. everyone eventually let back in and fortunately no one was hurt and the building had no structural damage. >> 6:25. the men lo fire department fire station is now open. the building replaces the old fire station build in 1953 in the same location. demolition started in november of 2016 and the new building is safer and firefighters expect it to last at least 70 years. outside if you look right there, you can see there a dog drinking fountain and wooden bench for the public. this still a little work to be

>> 6:31. that breaking news that we have been following since we came on air at 4:30 this morning. this is a live look in san francisco's inner richmond district where a van slammed into an apartment building leaving that driver critically injured. that crash happened about two hours ago near clement street. so far there are no reports of residents or even bystanders being injured but some people right now are out of their homes. >> the immigration crisis is still making headlines this morning. we've been seeing images like these showing kids separated from their parents after they crossed the u.s.-mexico border illegally. people across the nation and in the by area are demanding change and fighting for immigrants. kris sanchez joins us to see what local advocates are doing today to try to help. >> hi there, laura. in the last seven minutes, a charter bus left the fruit veil

b.a.r.t. station, one of the five arriving in sacramento ahead of a federal hearing related to california's safrpg weary policy. a lot of these folks seem to be fueled like images at child detention centers where children are detained separate as they await immigration hearings. the activist will rally at 8:00 and then at 10:00 they'll protest outside the federal building where the sanctuary policies hearing is plan. in all they are expecting about 500 activists there. organizers with the california immigrant youth justice alliance, say while family separations are not new to this administration, the way the trump administration seems to be deliberately traumatizing families is globalizing new activists. >> what's been happening through the -- our acts of social media and different images that caused the shock across the nation have a lot of different people to be engaged who otherwise wouldn't have been engaged with the work

we do. >> 2,000 children are in the customer of the federal government separate from their parents. dianne feinstein's keep families together act has a support of 49 democratic senators on that bill that would bar the family separations that started with the trump administration's zero tolerance policy which took effect in april. we have an nbc bay area and telemundo 48 crew to continue covering this part of the story. we've gotten comments back on social media saying that these parents are bringing this upon themselves by showing up at the border with their children. but what these activists are saying is that even if they are showing up illegally, there are due process rules and human rights that could potentially be being violated. in oakland, kris sanchez qu"tod in the bay". >> 6:34. it's a crime that caught a lot of people's attention, a man accused of attacking a homeless person for no apparent reason

and it's all caught on camera. this afternoon, will face a judge for first time. we want to warn you might find this video disturbing. 50-year-old kicked the homeless man on the sidewalk, this is near the tenderloin last month. he was arrested on sunday when officers spotted him walking on market street. police say he's also a suspect in a separate attack last month on muny bus and in that accident he's accused of slamming the man's face into a railing breaking his nose. now he's now facing two aggravated assault charges. >> and new for you this morning, we're just finding out that a man who hopped the white house fence monday triggering the security care is from the bay area. nbc obtained documents on the breach, 29-year-old alexander thomas minor from danville is accused of jumping the bay area on south lawn. said he was on a mission from

god to harm the president. he carried a back pack but no weapons. minor is scheduled to appear before judge today. the search is on for a person who stole a 6 week old puppy from a south bay business. cameras were rolling when the puppy was snatched. they are asking for help identifying man you see in this video. investigators say he walked into the business on bering drive in san jose and left with a husky golden retriever mix. we spoke to the dog's owner who is hopeful the surveillance video will help get his puppy back. >> when i see those videos it hurts. it hurts to see that video but i mean, i'm so glad that we installed security ram ras to see his face perfectly and his car. >> the suspect drove off in a black mer aicedes suv with a si week old puppy named nila. >> three kids under age of 10 are in the hospital after a deadly crash in concord.

a gray suv you see right there t boned a white dodge. this happened around 6:30 last night on concord boulevard and parkside drive. the driver of that white car died at the scene and three kids inside the. s vuxt were taken to children's hospital in oakland. concord boulevard was shut down for several hours but back open this moorng. >> making the streets safer for the elderly, that's what the city of san francisco will try to do today. george gascon along with mta and vision zero sf will launch its citywide elder pedestrian safety campaign. they want to put multilingyou'll banners to encourage drivers to slowdown for seniors. we did digging overnight and found alarming stats from the cdc about traffic accidents in the u.s. in 2015, more than 5,000 pedestrians were killed in crashes. that averages to about one crash related death every two hours and older adults aging 65 or older accounted for 19% of all pedestrian deaths.

>> we can drive and change our weather here around the bay area. and if you don't like the dangerous heat we'll have in the inland valleys it will be up to 100 degrees on saturday. the bay will be at 86 degrees and still some cool weather and 75 at the coast on saturday. it will be cooling down a few degrees but we still are going to be in for hot weather for the inland valleys, reaching 90 degrees on sunday. the bay at 82 and 72 degrees at the coast. we've got a lot of pride festivities going on and maybe on friday you're going to the trans march, it will be 71 degrees, perfect weather. saturday also looking great. 75 degrees. actually the warmest day in san francisco because in time for the big parade on sunday at 10:30, it's going to be nice and cool with highs reaching up to 72. it's going to be hot in russian river valley this weekend from friday to saturday. reaching into the mid-90s but much cooler on sunday with a

transit village will have on the area. here's a map where the google village would go. an already congested area right next to the busy station. tonight the city of san jose is hosting the first of four community forums to get the public's opinion and input on new developments. the first meeting is tonight at 6:00, next meeting is tomorrow night. happening today, san francisco police commission will talk about loosening restrictions on stun guns. according to the examiner, the police commission might start negotiating with police officers association over a policy that was passed back in march. it allows officers to use stun guns but only in certain instances. examiner reports the association is worried about a rule that a suspect has to be violently resisting arrest before an officer can use a stun gun. >> 6:45. republicans have presented the president with a plan to end the separation of families at the border. >> scott mcgrew, politicians are facing re-election and worried

district where a van slammed into an apartment building leaving the driver critically injured. it happened about 3:30 this morning near clement. so far no reports of residents are bystanders being injured but some people right now are out of their homes. one person dead after a stabbing in san leandro shopping complex. it happened overnight outside the sons of liberty ale house. the bar is inside a plaza off of east 14th street across from the safeway. four people had just left the bar when they got into some sort of fight. two men were stabbed and one died at the scene, the other is in critical condition in the hospital. police are still looking for the attackers. >> there's still a lot of work in the wake of the north bay wildfires but santa rosa leaders are trying to help. according to the press democrat, council members approved a new $44 million budget that's 16% higher than last year. a lot of the money will be used to cover costs related to the deadly firestorm like replacing water systems contaminated from

zero tolerance immigration policy as a new report suggests even more migrant baby and to the letters are being held. >> high profile child torture case in southern california moves forward in court today. you may remember 57-year-old david turpin and his wife, 49-year-old louise turpin accused of hoeltding 14 children captive in their home in riverside county. prosecutors say the children were shackled to bed, only given one meal a day and only allowed to shower once a year. today's hearing will determine if there is enough evidence for a trial. if convicted the couple faces 94 years in prison. in oakland city leaders or council members are trying to clean up the streets and stop illegal dumping. the council approved a new budget which includes more than a million dollars to step up the effort to get the trash off the streets. the funding will go towards a four-person rapid response crew as well as two litter
