brand new video into our ne welcome to today in the bay. we start with breaking news this morning. brand-new video into the newsroom overnight. look at the flames raging across lake county. we have a crew on the way north right now and we've been hearing from evacuees overnight. we'll have the latest coming up. thanks so much for joining us i'm laura garcia. >> mike will have the traffic in just a moment. first let's start with kari. i know we've been dealing with the heat this weekend. relief this week? >> yes, we're starting with a cooling trend for the start of this week. this weekend another different story. we'll have mostly cloudy skies as you head out this morning, kind of a sign that we will be in for cooling changes and as we

look at the sunnyvale temperature trend for today, we'll be in the lower 60s to start out aechb some upper 70s for early afternoon. overall fairly nice with highs reaching low 80s in the south bay. north bay still going to be very warm around ukia, 87 degrees and 70 in oakland and in san francisco. i'll have more on this cooling trend under way as we go into the next few minutes and mike, you have a new crash in the north bay. >> we're looking at the calm drive around the bay. light traffic and slowing for the construction out of the altamont, typical for west 580. we're looking over here for west 580 into san rafael, there's a crash at the san quentin off ramp before you get there. we'll see a little slowing much the fast lane is still blocked as crews are arriving on scene. this happened very early. we saw orange toor right now the traffic flowr in the cash lanes. >> we'll check back with you. back to breaking news we're covering, here's the latest on

the fire burning north in lake county. officials are calling it the pawnee fire, it started saturday night near pawnee road. this map shows you it's 50 miles north of santa rosa. cal fire says right now so far 7700 acres are scorched while 600 structures are in harm's way. 12 are destroyed. there are mandatory evacuations for about 3,000 people. one of the communities totally evacuated is the spring valley hear. >> many people there spending anxious hours worried about the fate of their homes. they are waking up this morning in ee vak cuation centers. others slept in rvs. one spoke about having little time to leave. >>. i think the hillside seemed to explode, it just seemed like somebody dropped a lot of fire on the hillside. so that's when we decided to leave. >> and it's still not clear if

the fire destroyed any home ins spring valley area. >> firefighters from all over the bay area are helping fight the pawnee fire. alameda county fire department is among those helping, tweeting this video of crews leaving for lake county early sunday. firefighters from fremont and oakland are also on the team. crews from san jose and santa clara county are helping out as well. >> this story certainly developing by the minute. we'll have coverage all morning long throughout today in the bay. >> also developing right now, police are giving us graphic new details on a deadly rampage in the north bay happened on rosa. santa rosa police now say the estranged husband of a woman who lives at the homewe unexpectedly. a woman was not there. their son was having friends over for dinner. the suspect, 65-year-old walter ross from colorado began firing. one man died. a 4-year-old was also shot. two others suffered nonlife

threatening injuries. people are seeing something in a moment and they don't understand the story behind it. >> now to a interview you'll only see on nbc bay area. the san francisco woman known as permit patty near at&t park claims she can't believe people think her actions were racially motivated. nbc bay area's marianne favro has the exclusive detail. >> reporter: this is a video of allison making the call to police that went viral. what you don't see is what prompted the call. for two hours she listened to her 8-year-old neighborhood loudly selling bottled water in front of her apartment building. >> i just couldn't get any work done. >> reporter: when she asked her building security guard to interve intervene, nothing happened. so she came out to talk to

i said please, i'm trying to work you're screaming and yelling and people have open windows and it's a hot day. can you please keep it down. do you have a right to be here. >> she questioned whether the girl needed a permit to sell water then says she called police to ask them if indeed a permit was required. she said she never asked the police to respond. >> there's no point in having the police come. that wasn't it. i just wanted them to be quiet or move to a corner. they were being disruptive. >> reporter: she also said she never confronted jordan woman, never once spoke to the little girl. >> jordan's mother says that's not true. she asked her daughter directly if she had a permit to sell bottled water. she's convinced it was racially motivated which is why she to police. we've been out here before with my nieces and were full white

and they didn't come out here and they were being way louder than jordan was by herself. >> reporter: she says her complaint had nothing to do with race. >> there was never a racial issue, ever. first of all, i didn't even know who was the one doing the shouting. i couldn't see, all i could hear was shouting. i had no idea who it was. how could it have been race related. >> she said the backlash has been paintful. >> i'm getting continually text messages with all kinds of age marianne favro, nbc area news. >> at 4:36, on your monday morning, happening today, if you take muny in san francisco, your commute just got trickier. today and for the next two months, muny is closing the twin peaks tunnel. you can take the kl or m train

good morning, i'm contessa brewer, here are the top business headlines, abo a posst dow future are off by 171 points. the dow did break its eight-day losing streak friday but the index had the worst week since march and nasdaq worst week since april. on today's watch list, a report on new home sales. friday we saw the dow rise 119

welcome to monday morning. >>. >> kari let out a sigh. >> i was like, ugh. it's monday, time to get moving. it was a hot week the cooldown that today brings and we'll start out with clouds this morning. we're seeing that along the coast and in san francisco it's going to be definitely cooler around the bay area here is that live look out there. it looks really nice. the 7-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. take a look before you make any ours for the week. erate trend for today, low 60s at 8:00. and it will be warming up into the upper 60s by 11:00 but overall a nice day. early afternoon, we're at 80

degrees. more pleasantly warmer weather. a look at the highs for this afternoon, cupertino, up to 80 degrees today and 81 in gilroy it will reach the mid 80s in the tri-valley and livermore, 85 degrees and oakland 70 degrees. and some low 60s for half moon bay. you can see the cooling there. san mateo up to 74 degrees and 71 on the embarcadero. it will be breezy and for the north bay looking at some low 80s in napa as well as 82 today in sonoma. as you're getting dressed this morning, it's still a day where you need the short sleeves and shorts but it won't be so unbearably hot like that weather we had on saturday. if you're going to monterey as we head into the weekend, our temperatures will reach in the low 70s while the inland areas will be reaching into the 90s once again. so we're already looking forward to another hot weekend ahead.

enjoy the week. 81 degrees today and 80 by wednesday and then 90 by friday. san francisco, we'll go from the low 70s today to 82 on saturday. and mike, you're still tracking that crash in san rafael. >> i had a little update, we see green sensors for most of the drivers and into san rafs you ae off ramp towards san quentin. the crash has cleared but sand barrels have been damaged. there may be cleanup and more lanes blocked as crews arrive to do the cleanup. we'll track that. that is the slowest spot heading across the richmond to san rafael bridge before you make the landfall over on the san rafael side. through the north bay, 101 moves smoothly and no major problems. resuming to the rest of the commute, a little crash over by the walnut creek interchange, still getting details, sounded like everything was off to the shoulder. here's the san mateo bridge, a smooth drive towards the peninsula side. sounds great around the bridge

and 70s temperatures not the speed. that gets slow on either side. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. >> 4:48. the state was supposed to prevent big business takeover when recreational marijuana became legal in california thi if you want to grow pot legally, you need a state permit. our investigative unit found big growers are flocking down south. as of the middle of june, the five companies with the biggest grows are located in santa barbara county. one company got 200 permits, enough to grow on 46 acres. now some small farmers are accusing the state of going back on its promise to limit marijuana growth to one acre for the time being. this grower in rural northern california is trying to survive. >> we've gotten outside jobs in order to make this small farm stay alive. >> do you worry and get nervous

jose right now, you're seeing a little bit of the light in the sky, santa teresa will see clouds moving in as we go to south san ande'll be in the mid-70s already by early afternoon, antioch will be up to 85 and 83 in santa rosa. oakland and san francisco at 70 degrees. i'll talk about the week ahead coming in and mike, you have a look at the morning commute in the north bay. >> the crash in the north bay is absolutely right. south bay and peninsula, east bay and tri-valley all great, altamont pass little slowing as they have road crews coming out of tracie, westbound 580 over here towards where it ends at 101, we have a crash. it looks like all lanes have cleared of the crash but there's debris, the off ramp barrels, looks like there's stand still as the crash did involve them. there's slowing. i'll let you know in crews have to close anything but right now all lanes are open. there's slowing for the
