85 and 83 in santa rosa. oakland and san francisco at 70 degrees. i'll talk about the week ahead coming in and mike, you have a look at the morning commute in the north bay. >> the crash in the north bay is absolutely right. south bay and peninsula, east bay and tri-valley all great, altamont pass little slowing as they have road crews coming out of tracie, westbound 580 over here towards where it ends at 101, we have a crash. it looks like all lanes have cleared of the crash but there's debris, the off ramp barrels, looks like there's stand still as the crash did involve them. there's slowing. i'll let you know in crews have to close anything but right now all lanes are open. there's slowing for the distraction, no problems through the contra costa county map. a nice drive from the north bay, all the way down to the bay bridge. here's the richmond/san rafael bridge. the reason it is able to recover quickly is because it's so light. thank you. >> back to the breaking news we're covering this morning the latest on the fire burning up nonch in lake county.
5:01 am
they are calling the the pawnee fire. it's about 50 miles north of santa rosa. here's what's cal fire says right now. so far 7700 acres have burned, and 600 structures in harnl's way and 12 destroyed. there are mandatory evacuations for about 3,000 people we actually sent our crew up northeasterlily this morning because the story is changing so quickly. >> pete suratos joins us from one of the evacuation centers so far. any new updates, pete? >> good morning, no new updates outside of the information you said there but we're arriving here in the lake county area and clear oaks lake in front of this moose lodge here on highway 20. this is one of the places where folks have been evacuating. you have folks leaping outside here keeping it down as we're here the cars that where folks are sleeping inside of tents
5:02 am
plenty of uneasiness as folks are supposed to evacuate as a result of the pawnee fire. it broke out northeast of clear oaks lake. it's already reaching several thundershower acres and residents primarily in the spring valley and surrounding areas evacuating mainly north of highway 29 and in this area where we're standing. pitching up tents and sleeping in their cars here waiting to see what's going to happen next. not knowing conditions near her home is really the scariest part. >> scared. we really don't -- they would give us a little hope, is there 1% or 2% or 5% under control, anything? >> the next half hour we'll hear from a married couple who says
5:03 am
they've never seen flames like this. we'll hear from them in the next half hour. we're live here in lake county, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> right now we want to bring in kari hall. when you're dealing with a fire like this the thing they have to worry about, the wind speeds. >> the wind speeds today, at least we do have good recovery and that means the humidity coming up during the overnight hours. right now at 90%, it's 54 degrees so it is cool. but our temperatures show that it's going to be heating up again today. and our wind speeds throughout the afternoon will be fairly light. so this may be some good news as they try to get containment on the wildfire. of course we'll have the latest updates on that and look at the full microclimate forecast coming up in just a few minutes. >> sounds good, thanks so much. 5:03. new details overnight. we learned about a double stabbing at pride in san francisco. 5:15 at night. police found two people hurt along golden gate avenue and
5:04 am
leave enworth street, a couple blocks from the civic center, no word on the victim's condition. >> police staffing will be at the center of a serious discussion in san francisco tonight sf examiner reporting san francisco's police chief is asking the board of supervisors not to slash funding for more officers. some believe funding used to hire more officers could be used to address the homelessness crisis. the budget does include money for police tasers which is a controversial issue in san francisco. >> for continuing coverage now, prepared to vote this week to stop separating migrant families, president trump is pitching a new idea that critics say is illegal. tracie pots has more from washington. a big push to reunite migrant families. >> i'm ashamed of my president. this is a disgrace. the top democrat insists the administration do more. >> appoint a czar in charge of
5:05 am
the reunification process. but trd trump has a different idea. when somebody comes in we must immediately with no jum or court cases bring them back from where they came. immigration advocates say that's illegal. >> people coming to claim asylum are not illegal immigrants. >> right now they are being detained despite president trump's order to keep families together, the government says more than 2,000 children remain separated from their parents. >> we want to get the families back together. >> they hope to vote on just that this week, unable to agree on a bigger solution to protect dreamers or build a border wall. republicans blame democrats. >> what they care about is catch and release. >> and the president. >> president trump and jeff sessions decided they wanted to use babies as a deter ent. how downright cruel is this. >> with no clear solution. >> president trump is expected to head to central america where
5:06 am
a lot of these migrant families are coming from. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. >> 5:05. and when it comes to twitter wars, it really almost seems like president trump enjoys picking a fight. his latest target, not only isn't fighting but seems to be taking the high road. the president recently circled back to his infamous hair petting incident on the tonight show which you see right there. this happened before the election. and in a recent interview fallon said he regrets that and the president over the weekend tweeted fallon was quote, whimpering about it and told him to be a man. so fallon then tweeted, he'll do nature to a non-profit group that provides legal aid to immigrants. the tonight show is new tonight. we expect jimmy fallon to address this controversy. of course you can watch that right here on nbc bay area. be sure to tune in at 11:00 right after nbc bay area news at

the fourth of july falls wednesday this year so fewer americans may feel like celebrating with a big getaway trip. a national retail federation estimates 216 million people will observe independence day and that's down 3 million from last year. but at least 153 million are planning a picnic or cookout. and they are going to spend $6.9 billion on food or roughly 75 bucks a person. i'm guessing that's a specialty martinis. about 25% of people say gas prices will affect their holiday plan. >> it's time for one last toy run. all toys "r" us and babyies "r" us stores will close by friday. they vary by location, some stores have markdowns as much as 90%. the inventory is very limited because it's been picked over. as the toys sell out, sections in the aisles get closed off with yellow cautious tape which make for a rather bitter sweet

5:33 am
about this fire. >> i -- i was really quite worried about because we've gone through several fires already in spring valley and we dodged the bullet. and before and this time we kind of felt it was going to be kind of dicey. >> and it's just -- it's really scary. you know, i -- i think it's okay but i don't know and you know, not knowing is really hard. >> i just spoke to that volunteer as i mentioned here talked about the history of the fires in this area and why people feel this time around it may be different. we'll have more on that at 6:00 a.m. live here in lake county, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> 5:33, already leaving poor air quality across a large part of the north bay. we spoke with one mother in santa rosa who has five children and says the smoke from the fire 50 miles away is more than just

bay." >> 5:37, happening today. if you take muny in san francisco, your commute just got trickier. today for the next two months, muny is closing the twin peaks tunnel and if you take the k, l or m train downtown you have to take buses. you might have gotten a taste of the same closure earlier this year when mun why did it for a three-day weekend and a full summer closure could not avoided because a tunnel needs retrofitting. sometimes the wait can be more than worth it. the san francisco giants. >> fans who stuck around got a treat yesterday. >> on the ground! down the line! and this game is over! >> over. yeah, hunter pence hit a two-run double after san diego took the lead in the top of the 11th. the final score, 3-2. the giants face the colorado rockies tomorrow.
