6:01 am
here's a live look outside in san jose checking out our temperature trend for campbell and we'll start out with low 60s and those clouds will help keep it cooler today. we'll be in the upper 70s by early afternoon. looking at the highs today up to 81 degrees in san jose and antioch, one of the warmer spots, 85. 70 in oakland and in san francisco and 80 today in napa. we'll talk about what's ahead for the week in a few minutes. we're tracking a crash and fire? >> a crash is actually the second for the hayward area but first one we're talking about is a fire we just saw. reported to the chp because folks driving around see the most stuff. it's off the freeway just off 242 in concord. and then maybe an issue. smoke may be visible and we hear it's around a storage facility. we'll continue to track that in the newsroom and see slowing but that is the commute out of the concord area. the rest of cocoa county moves well and bay bridge toll plazaer, metering lights are on. and southbound 8808 at tennyson,

pawnee fire. it started saturday night near pawnee road, 50 miles north of santa rosa. 77$7700 acres have burn and 600 structures in harm's way and 12 destroyed. there are mandatory evacuations for about 3,000 people. >> today in the bay's pete suratos is live at one of the evacuation center where people are anxiously awaiting status on their homes and belongings. it's been 24 hours for a lot of those families there. what are they doing and what are they saying right now? >> reporter: good morning. a lot are just waking up here at the moose lodge. one of the evacuation shelters but earlier we got a chance to talk to a volunteer who says a lot of folks in there are nervous and saying this fire kinds of reminiscent of fire back in 2015. the valley fire where a lot of homes were destroyed through that. they are saying this is -- making them feel a bit nervous.
6:04 am
when i spoke to the volunteer, she reminded me it was the fourth most destructive wildfire in state history. the pawnee fire broke out on saturday northeast of clear oak lakes in the area where we're standing and already reaching several thousand acres and threatening hundreds of buildings. that volunteer i spoke to mentioned this is a fourth wildfire in five years for spring valley residents. that is an area primarily evacuated as a result of this fire and really the unknown at this time for the residents dealing with the unknown is making them nervous. >> the wind shifting back and forth. right now it keeps going over the valley. they are worried it's going to go in. once it's against into housing that's a lot of damage, a lots of homes. >> back out here live, you're seeing on this side, a number of tents set up in this area as folks are evacuating as a result of this pawnee fire.
6:05 am
coming up at 6:30. we'll hear more from residents waiting to get more information in general about the containment of the fires or nervous about this being told there's about -- we'll hear more from them at 6:30 a.m. we're live in lake county, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> you would understand how they would be so concerned. >> we also know the heat and wind that are contributing to the fire could really be a danger. >> let's check in with kari hall with a look what firefighters in north county are facing. >> we're going to see some improved conditions there. what we look forward during the morning hours is higher humidity. they call that recovery and we're see being that right now at 87%. which of course is good news. higher humidity during the overnight hours, cooler temperatures but it's still going to be very hot today. reaching into the low 90s for this afternoon. our wind speeds though will be a lot lighter compared to the weekend as we look at the winds speeds in that area up to about 10 to 15 miles per hour throughout the day.
