the forecast for this tuesday morning. another mild one. >> a very nice day, some clouds and fog near the coast and inland areas start out with clear skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 60s as you get ready to head out the door, east bay at 52. a cool 47 degrees in the north bay with mostly clear skies and heading up the hiking trails it best hours will be before noon then start warm with a light wind as we go into the afternoon with highs reaching the low 80s in the south bay. as we get out on the roads, mike you're also looking at the south bay. >> we have one issue sticking around on the maps for south bay. wasn't a big deal as far as chp is concerned. our partners over here have called that out for our traffic system, the on ramp to north 101, still reports of a vehicle that first year with a cra abandoned vehicle now blocking one lane at the on ramp for bailey. driving through san jose in the south bay right here, this is

101, still we've got company. back to you. >> 5:00 right now. we do continue to monitor the latest development out of lake county this morning. the flames from the pawnee fire are spreading right now. it's considered -- hundreds of structures in the wildfire's path, burning 55 miles north of santa rosa in clearlake. at least 1500 people are evacuated. the wildfire is 10,000 acres and it's only 5% contained. so far 12 homes and ten structures are gone. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in castro valley as firefighters across the bay area prepare to deploy to help fight this fire and with only 5% containment, there's a lot of work there for the crews. >> that's right, marcus, still a lot of work ahead. yo number o bay area agencies going out to lake county to fight that pawnee fire.

we're standing in front of the fire department in castro valley where we know yesterday the strike team was sent to battle this fire along with other counties. we want to show you exactly where things stand now. this is in flame video and overnight you're seeing the fire work its way up the hill in lake county. the good news is as far as progress goes, according to cal fire, this fire is at least moving towards an uninhabited area of lake county. we'll see how things shake out today when you consider the weather conditions in that area. as a result, you have about 1500 people evacuated do to the pawnee fire. many going to the moose lodge where we were at yesterday morning off highway 20 in clear oaks lake. that's an unofficial shelter for folks in the community that they serve food and provide cots for people to sleep on. this is also lower lake high, that is the official red cross shelter for the fire where our

crews did get a chance to speak with one married couple. they were forced to evacuate from the spring valley area and wife explained that her husband is a diabetic, so there's concern on how to take care of them as everything sorts itself out. >> able to get one bottle of insulin. when the ins len runs out, i don't know what we're going to do. >> it's way early to tell exactly what caused the fire but hoping to get more updates from cal fire as the morning goes along. pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> 5:03 right now, live to washington lawmakers continue to debate what's next for the immigration crisis happening on the border. meantime president trump is doubling down on his call to strip migrants of the rights to see a judge. southern california, want to walk you through this story. little complicated and it started as some sort of domestic violence out of englewood, she was approached by her exboyfriend and so frightened she gets in her car to try to drive away. she would be followed by the exboyfriend then and calls 911 while krdriving away and can't t any response. she happens to see an officer in culver city pulled over on the side of the road so she jumps out, tries to get the officer's attention but that's when the exboyfriend allegedly rams into both of their cars. now what you're seeing here is the aftermath. the police car crushed. it was sent into a cement pillar. the officer was injured as well. we're following breaking news there in southern california. we'll bring you any latest developments. 5:06 right now, new details for you on a murder mystery in southern california with a bay area tie. police say the 35-year-old father on a family camping trip

was gunned down with two children, a 4-year-old and 2-year-old by his side. this all happened at the popular malibu state park and seen it on several tv shows and movies. this morning there are no known suspect or motive for that killing. that victim tristan valdebt, a chemist who attended u.c. berkeley is just about to -- just about to relocate with his wife and kids back to the bay area. friends and family members are remembering him as a family man who would do anything for his family. >> this is a family man and that's where it was geared for, to take care of his family and be there for him. >> now, there have been a series of shootings over the last few weeks at the park that are for now -- that are for now unconnected. at 5:07, a new interview

given by the woman once called the call girl killer is leading to new charges. you may remember this story. high end escort alex pickleman served three years after pleading guilty to injecting a lethal dose of heroin, killing a google executive in santa cruz. nbc affiliate ksbw interviews her about the death and deadly overdose of her boyfriend in georgia one year before. in the interview, she stated she had nothing to do with his death but on monday prosecutors in georgia announced charges. she now lives in canada. authorities hope to arrest her and extradite her back to the united states. >> good news this morning. a san francisco police officer injured in an accident seems to be getting better. we first told you about officer ali ya back in october. he was on his patrol bike when he was hit by a car. he suffered traumatic brain

injury. spent the last seven months at santa clara valley medical center. making conversation and even eating on his own. now he's heading to bakersfield for more rehab. >> it is 5:09. traffic project in berkeley may make it safer for your kids to cross the street for lunch. more than 500 kids walk across ward street every day. long fellow middle school cafeteria is across the street from the school. the city is considering closing it from sacramento and california from 11:30 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon on school days. quite the plan, got to k those kids safe. >> makes sense. >> right now at we wake up to mostly clear skies and we can look at this san francisco camera and see the fog is j offshore. weld a little while but it also helps keep us clear and also very cool. as we get a look at our temperature trend for half moon bay, we're not going to see as

many clouds as yesterday. and it's still going to be chilly with those winds coming in onshore. that's going to keep the coast sal areas in the 50s and low 60s and inland areas are going to heat in the mid to upper 80s. these temperatures are about where we should be for this time of year. and we're going to hold these temperatures steady over the next few days before we get a pretty big warm-up as we go towards the end of the week. we'll be tracking that also some breezy winds in that forecast. more on that coming up. you have an easy start for the commute. >> looking really good. easy breezy. we need more breeze in the forecast. a nice easy drive here, south bay in towards san francisco, peninsula side, not a problem as you would expect. we have a little issue, disabled vehicle was reported at the bay bridge toll plaza but it looks like it's cleared from lanes without any issue. i saw from the toll plaza camera, there's no backup for cash lanes right now. we're looking at the good flow of traffic, berkeley curve,

right now we're about 30 minutes from sunrise but we can already start to see that our skies are clear over the south bay and it will be a touch warmer as a result. as we go to everygreen and check out our temperatures there, it will be at 65 degrees at 9:00 and normally we're up to 85 degrees. we're going to be just above that today and looking at some more of this nice warm weather before it gets extremely hot again this weekend, more on that coming up in minutes. >> looking at the san mateo bridge, we're starting to see a light ening of the sky. it doesn't mean lighter traffic. we'll follow the rest both sides of the san mateo bridge and your

commute coming up. coming up on 5:15, happy tuesday. stocks took a huge hit on monday as reports said the white house would restrict chinese investment in american high tech, dow down more than 300 points. netflix had its worst day in two years. harly davidson which tdes the developing tariffas down 6% battle with the eu. let's talk about china. the most frustrating thing for silicon valley is different officials in the white house are saying different things about this proposed restriction against chinese investment in tech. we actually do expect stocks to rise today because the white house seems to be backing off some of those threats but it's very confusing. uber in san francisco eagerly awaiting a decision out of london. a judge there could rule as soon as today whether uber will be allowed to return to the british

capital. they were barred from the city for bad behavior. you saw that report that says earning $100,000 isn'tfrancisco. a new study of millennials by the online learning network shows nearly half of millennials nationwide have two jobs. their professional job and career job and what we used to call moonlighting, what mill n lennials call the side hustle. >> that wasn't historically the case, you weren't allowed to have this really flexible open schedule but that's what they want to do. they want to be able to work at different hours and different times and even at home. so they can do this side hustle thing or try different opportunities. >> back during my very first tv reporting job, i found out how much the guys got to cut the grass outside the television station and they were getting paid more per day than i was. i asked my boss, i will cut the grass. we can't have you out there. come on. and i said, well then you should

right? >> why do we have to fit in a box? do you know what i mean? we're looking at clear skies as we check out the weather today. it's going to be a nice day around the bay area. we're going to start to see the skies clearing and i wanted to show y this camera from way up over clearlake, we've been monitoring the situation with the wildfires and just to the northeast of clearlake. you can see on the camera here, the orange hue coming from the smoke from the wildfires, temperatures here are very cool. that should help with containment of those wildfires and we'll have more updates on that. as you get ready to head out the door in san jose, heading to diridon station and going off to work this morning, grab a light jacket. it's in the upper 50s out there but warms up nicely as we go through the day. upper 70s by early afternoon. this is where it will be a little bit warmer, in martinez, even though our temperatures afternoon and we'll be at 84 wee

degrees. make sure you're prepared and grab that bottle of water an keep refilling it today. we're going to see the high in livermore up to 87 degrees. 82 in napa and san francisco today stays at a cool 65 degrees. if you're going out boating today, here's a look at the boating forecast. still patchy dense fog just offshore. the wind waves will be calmer and light northwesterly swell. we'll still have our ocean breezes kicking in today and that's going to give us the natural air conditioning that will bring down our temperatures for today and tomorrow. but all bets are off as we heado he weekend. look at this -- the offshore wind does to our inland valleys in the tri valley on saturday. we're up to 97 degrees. it's going to be hot. before you make any weekend plans. let me know what you're doing. i'm @ kari hall weather. a personalized forecast for the spot you're heading to.

look at the temperatures over the next few days, going to 85 degrees inland to 98 b in the 6s for the next few days. heading over to mike tracking those longer ve more traffic coming in the outer reaches of our maps here, closer to the bay, no problem. light traffic, folks driving in over from tracie, a nice smooth flow. that's typical over there. the south bay no problems out of south county and north bay a nice drive over the carquinez bridge. highway 4, rest of contra costa county. over here there's a slowing we talked about for 580. by the time we get to dublin and our camera here, it's an easy drive with spacing between the cars, you're at the limit. we'll show you there's one issue in the east bay and not the travel times, we're starting to show the backup in san francisc. reminder for muny riders k, l

have access to save drinking water. state agencies are teaming up to launch the california safe drinking water data challenge. you're looking at the promotional video hosted by the state. the campaign promises a joint effort to bring communities and innovators together to tap into water data to find solutions for contaminated water. more details for you. state water leaders on any given day, 200,000 californians have unsafe water in their taps. every year up to 1 million people across the state lack access to clean and safe drinking water. droughts and water distributions may limit access for days, months or even years. at costa county. supervisors will consider adorpting regulations including zoment for some areas. they are also looking at banning pot related activities in other areas including alamo and vessel island. >> so many people in the bay area love their bikes but some

>> let's head over to kari hall with a look at the forecast for today. kari, another nice one. >> nice sunrise. we can actually see it this time around compare it to yesterday where we have those low clouds and fog all over the bay area. as we take say live look outside in emeryville, the visibility is nice and clear as you get out the door andhe morning commute is going to start out nice and cool. upper 50s in fremont. 64 degrees, looking at clear skies through most of the day looking at the highs, slightly warmer in the inland areas as a result of the lack of morning clouds. we'll be at 87 degrees in anty of course and livermore reaching 83 degrees in san jose and santa rosa today, 85 degrees. we'll talk about even hotter temperatures in the forecast. mike now you're tracking a motorcycle crash. >> this just came into the traffic center. we're looking at a bad place and bad time and motorcycle crashes in general not good for the rider. often we hear about the slowing and we see it on the sensors

west 37 right at mare island where traffic tends to bog down. this is adding on the commute out of vallejo and novato. the main concern is the driver of that vehicle. i will keep checking with chp. hopefully it will say minor injuries. we have the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza as well. only other slow spot in the bay area and we're looking at an easier summer shift. a more gradual build but there's the toll plaza guys, back to you. >> 5:31. you've probably seen the heartbreaking images from the border as migrant families continue that emotional process of reuniting. meantime here at home, local activists are making their voices heard today. this is happening at the only i.c.e. detention facility in the bay area. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez with a rally about to get under way this morning. good morning, kris. >> folks should be arriving here in about an hour and a half. as you mentioned, this is the

only i.c.e. facility in the bay area. it's at the contra costa county detention center. folks will gather at 7:00 this morning to not only decry the trump administration immigration policies but also how the sheriff is responding to that. the families together day of action is posted on facebook and at this point more than 700 people say they are coming here. nearly 3,000 people say they are interested. those are unofficial numbers. here's what we know about the detention center, 200 immigrants detained here on any given day and according to organize errrs allowed any outside inspection of those facilities. back in march, the east bay times reported that the sheriff banned community volunteers from visiting detained immigrants here and a month later we reported that the department started publishing inmate release dates allowing i.c.e. to detain them or at least track

them upon in direct violation of california sanctuary policy. east bay congressman did visit the facility and promptly said that the county should terminate its $6 million a year contract with i.c.e. this day of action is planned for 7:00 this morning. a lot of folks expected to gather here. we're not the only journalists here as well. we'll be trying to talk to folks as they start to arrive here this morning. early, this is about contra costa county and trump administration but the images leading into this report, certainly a very powerful driving force. in richmond, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> all right, kris, thanks for that update. >> it is 5:33. today san jose city council decides whether to accept a revised report on police use of force. in a rare move, the council refused the original version last month. the police union says the report excluded important data, specifically dealing with race.

yesterday the union president turned in a petition with more than 500 signatures to the ma r mayor's office. in an interview with nbc bay area yesterday, his report could have been presented better. >> happening today, san francisco leaders holding a public hearing on the troubled hunter's point redevelopment project. the program began yearso. it first uncovered soil samples faked by the navy contractor now supervisors there considering amending the redevelopment plan. today's hearing takes place at 2:00 p.m. you can watch all of our reports and on that former ship yard at nbcbay area.com. 5:35, popular east bay water park is closed. reports of children getting sick. four kids reportedly got sick at the be goose park in brentwood.

their symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea. the county health inspector found chlorine and ph levels were within the required levels but also discovered the ultraviolet light disinfection system didn't work. and the system's automatic shutdown feature failed to act vaxt the system is used to destroy harmful bacteria. parents are alarmed. >> should have had thorough checking every week and they should have checked everything. someone somewhere dropped the ball. that's the bottom line. >> the brent diagnowood city mas saying once fixed they'll inspect the facility again before it is open to the public. 5:36 and happening today, the san jose state student charged with sexually --s expec court. 21-year-old is accused of attacking two men on campus. he was arrested back in march after attacking a friend who

turned down his advances. >> can you imagine this story, east bay 4-h family stunned and heart broken after someone stole their daughter's rabbit from the fair. buster was stolen saturday night from his cage at the fair. 13-year-old mabel has been raising the black and tan rabbit since he was a baby. comes after actually happy occasion. the pair won most creative costume but someone broke into buster's cage later that night and they took him. the family is desperately hoping to find the rabbit who has become part of the family. >> i was surprised that bunnies can bond with you and if he didn't -- if i didn't give him enough attention when he was out, he would jump in my lap. >> 4-h members have been buster just in case he escaped his cage and is roaming free. >> 5:37, a follow-up for you right now. san francisco police department is given the green light to arm officers with tasers. there's a big problem. the department has no money to

buy them. city leaders yesterday voted down the plan to spend $2 million on those tasers. that decision could push back the taser used for another year. opponents say the actual cost will be much higher and they want a more realistic estimate. the police commission has been pushing for tasers say this a step in the wrong direction. >> the police commission has approved it and department of justice has recommended they ge the police force. >> the final decision will be this month. anmasco voters earlier >> the future of public land in oakland debated and follows recent controversy about previous oakland land deals. they plan to present what they call the people's proposal that would emphasize oversight and transparency to focus on providing new affordable housing and ensuring public land is used for local residents. as part of the debate, council

members will also consider a moratorium. >> you might notice a difference on the road. the city of mountain view could give a green light to a set of improvements along a busy road. people living near sylvan avenue want cars to slow it down. this is v overnight. there's no traffic there but the city survey found thathe road e day. about 15% go above the speed limit. if approved, crews will approve pedestrian crossing signs and add electronic speed radar signs. there's no plan to actually add speed humps. >> i grew up in mountain view, not far from that area. trying to avoid the con jeks and that is a good idea there. we're looking towards the south bay where traffic flows very nicely. the video marcus shows you, light rain now. this is the big problem now, still a motorcycle crash west 37, no update on rider but it doesn't sound like major

injuries. i'll continue to follow that. west 37 at mare island, a 15 .inute extra backup over there. that's early for the start out of vallejo. an easier drive towards the bay bridge. good stuff there and there's the san jose flowing with that early start to the slowdown. this will clear up in about five minutes. >> okay. good to know. >> here we are. early in the week, already thinking about the weekend. getting you prepared and kari, you say there's going to be another heat up. >> it's going to be a hot weekend. if you're planning to go to the fair, going to the beach, whatever your plans are. you'll want to take a look at this forecast. inland areas are going to be at the upper 90s but it's going to last for a couple of days before it cools down once again. it seems like our weather is on repeat. basically what we have last weekend may be not as intense but it's still going to be a warm one. and looking at san francisco's forecast on saturday, 78 degrees on sunday, starting to come down

mike traffic tease good tuesday morning, we start our morning with mostly clear skies. here's a live look outside in palo alto. later on today it's going to be nice and comfortable, a lot of sunshine. we'll be at 77 degrees by 3:00 today. and the inland areas are going to heat up a little bit more than yesterday. we'll talk about that and the

trend for the weekend coming up in less than five minutes. good news, highway 37 at the bottom of the screen, 27 minute travel time and boulevard to lakeville but the crash at mare island has cleared from lanes. we're looking at the tri-valley, not so bad, the build comes in out of the altamont >> 5:44, new video this morning of that fully enedthere. firefighters battle that. that fire started a little bit before 3:00 in the parking lot of the capitol drive in in san jose where they also hold a flea market. the rv is obviously a total loss. only the shell of it still remaining. but no one is believed to have been inside. as far as we know, the fire did not cause damage to the drive-in or movie equipment. the dry year we're seeing in the bay area especially bad o men for fire season. that's one berkeley scientist's message this morning.

she reiterated what we know, drought, dry vegetation and grass and brush is a big cause for concern. this is video of the pawnee fire burning up in lake county. we're covering it extensively. it is one of many fires, cal fire is fighting. here's the map with a look at all of the current wildfires that they are up against in palo alto when it comes to the numbers of students opting out of taking california's core assessment test. palo alto weekly reports parental exemptions dropped from 65% to about 28%. meaning more students took the start -- smarter balance asse assessment consortium exam. exemptions this year rose to 51%. federal law requires a 95% participation rate. >> it's 5:46, san francisco board of supervisors meet every tuesday but today is special. they'll elect a new president. the last president london breed now the mayor elect, breed was
