fireworks. >> the only issue will be the fog in san francisco. if you'll be in the inland areas it will be perfect. red white and boom celebration. it will be about 74 degrees cooling down to the upper 50s later in the evening and in concord we also have great weather. today it will be in the 60s and dropping back to the 60s again in the evening. as we head over here you're keeping under the circumstances updated on the roads and rails. >> i think a lot of people got day off. not seeing as many accidents but we are seeing this issue. lanes three and four remain blocked but they are working to clear that out. i want to give you an update if you're heading out to see -- or taking the mass stran sit. they will be running no service because of the 4th of july. bart will be on a sunday schedule. we are expecting it to be on a

have to wear a pupty coat on the 4th of july. >> thank you. >> summertime. all right. today some people will spend the holiday in protest in the east bay. groups are planning a prayer ceremony in richmond. it has been the site of several protests in recent weeks. anger surrounding family separations and arrests boiling over there. also a new development, the trump administration is giving migrant parents two options, leave the u.s. with or without your kids. nbc news obtained a document instructing agents to offer those two choices. the new choices do not let parents already separated under the policy to reunite with their kids while they are waiting far decision on asylum. advocates say even immigrants who are already passing initial screenings are being presented with this forum. meantime happening today in

hill. it is 76 in danville. these temperatures are cooler than normal. a brisk wind blowing in at about 15 miles per hour. half-moon bay only a cool 60 degrees. the north bay at 275. santa rosa reaching 73 degrees. if you're going to watch the fireworks it will be cool. a nice warm jacket with your chair as you enjoy the fireworks there. you'll need the same maybe like pete said on his bubble coat, you'll need one of those this evening with some of those brisk winds blowing in. speaking of winds, this is west of cabo. it is a category 2 hurricane. this is heading into the weekend. as this moves out not going to make land fall but it could churn up waves.

we could have dangerous 7 to 12 foot waves and rip currents heading into the weekend. if you're planning ongoing to the beach be mineful of that. our temperatures will be warming up. so a lot of people will be heading to the beach. it will be dangerous to be along our coastline and for san francisco we are looking at highs in the low 70s by friday into saturday. we are tracking the morning commute. so far it looks pretty quiet. >> yeah. not much of a commute this morning. showing a lot of green which means everything is flowing pretty smoothly. this is eastbound 580 about 8 minutes. towards the bay bridge also in the 8 minutes. a live look outside in san jose we are seeing a couple of vehicles out there. a quick reminder, if you're driving somewhere for fireworks. if you typically keep your dogs or cats or anything in the backyard bring them inside.

>> so nice to hear. thank you. happening now, if you live in san jose you probably already started hearing illegal fireworks last night. i know i did. there th year a new way to report them to police after last year's debacle. >> we are live in san jose with how this all works. i remember last year people could report and not chb prove anything. how does this one work? >> good morning to you. you still report illegal fireworks online. after last year with the number of innocent people the city tells us they updated the web site. this is san jose the deadline to do this is july 8th. there is the hot line number, the 408 number on your screen.

fines start at $500. last year a number of people were given violations. some times it is based just on hearsay. those residents were wrongly a caus -- accused. the city said it would be refining the pilot programming for reporting illegal fireworks activity which they had reportedly done. >> by the way if you want to see fireworks you can see them legally at approved shows. i want to put that up right there. fireworks shows taking place. one after the giants game. discovery meadow tonight and then almaden lake park will have

one at dusk. >> all right. thank you very much, bob. definitely leave it to the pros. things are so dry out there. firefighters are trying to figure out whether illegal fireworks started fires. it damage add middle school library. it started in pleasanton. you can see the interior view. firefighters let us in to see the damage. they did have it under control in about a half hour, but the damage was done at that point. no one was inside the school when it happened. a developing story we want to tell you about this morning. a 29-year-old man is now facing pretty disturbing charges. matthew redmond accusedov of killing his own mother. they found his mother dead on a bathroom floor. before the discovery police say

that he was on a neighborhood crime spree attempting to break into cars and homes. he was eventually tracked down and arrested. neighbors say they are shocked by all of this. >> somebody lost a mom. somebody lost a wife. a lot of horrible things went down. >> police say he will be charged with murder. police are looking for the person who stabbed a man several times in a trip mall parking lot. it happened just before 5:30 last night about a block for perspective. officers say that victim flagged down a driver to ask for help. the victim was taken to a local hospital. at this point we don't know the extent of his injuries. is it justice served or justice denied? the defendants pleaded no contest to 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. it is one count for each person

that died. the deal means both will serve less than ten years in prison. they could be out much sooner for good behavior. the victim's family members say they don't see this as right. >> we just wanted some justice, some fair justice. we don't feel that in our opinion it was fair justice. >> that family members will have a chance to tell them exactly how they feel. this is at the sentencing hearing in august. police say a woman in her 40s escaped serious injury after walking in on a burglar. this happened saturday morning at an apartment north of el camino. he did get away and with some of that woman's valuables. and a change on the roads

you knead need to know about. it is prompting leaders to change traffic flow on busy third street. they report that the city council this week voted to eliminate one of two left turn lanes at 3rd street. this is southbound. in 2014 and again in 2016. cars struck and killed pedestrians at that intersection. those changes may take effect by next spring. did you get a chance to check out the san mateo fair this year? take a look at that. look at that. >> all right. officials say that's up 9% compared to 2017. happening today concord officially dedicates a brand new statue. if you live here you might have already seen it. it is a bronze statue.

supply and the fear of fuelling the price increased. right now the national average of a gallon of regular gas is $2.86. but, you know, that's way higher here in the bay area. san francisco about $3.80. oakland $3.72 and san jose $3.71. fill up before you head out this morning. yeah. you may want to car pool and have them pitch in on that tank of gas. look at how clear it is. we haven't had any major dents to report. we had a couple of fender benders. if you're waking up and you're planning on heading to work 8th will have no service today because of the 4th of july. bart will be running on a sunday schedule. you may want to check out their web site. a lot of these agencies will be

across. it is clearing out by later this morning. campbell will start out in the upper 50s with breezy winds, highs in the 70s today. it will be really nice but tomorrow it gets hot. we'll talk about that in the forecast coming up in less than five minutes. and we are seeing a couple of areas with pretty good including the bridge here. it is about 7 minutes in. bay bridge only 8 minutes. i'll have an update on the holiday schedule coming up. 5:45 right now. a new video into our news room overnight. you can see the terror as the ferry sank yesterday. 29 people died here. rescue teams were searching for dozens of missing people. you can see right there a frantic escape. people jumping into the water. this is just the latest ferry disaster in the country. 200 people died a few weeks ago. it is 5:45 now.

the sanford cold case killer who took his own life is report willedly being investigated in three roar murders on campus. they are now looking at three murders that happened on or near sanford's campus between 1973 and 1974. they are looking to see if there are links to steven crawford in 1974. dna evidence helped to crack that case. that i are looking at that to see if there are other links. a follow up now a man arrested in connection with the shooting death of a san francisco security gurard. it happened near candle stick point. they say that guard was launching an office ben when he shot. officers arrested 24-year-old cardell. they have not given any nfgts on a possible motive.

these three movers were hired to help a family move last weekend. that's when things turned ugly. the suspects demanded to be paid more. they took a tv and apple computer. the family says the computer had bit coin on it two are under arrest. the one on the right remains ton run. this crime spree was stopped. police say 28-year-old carries out a crime spree accused of stealing more than 100,000 bucks in computers and other valuables. 5:47. new allegations against kefrvin

space spacey. prosecutors reviewing a potential charge against spacey. dedicating 10 million dlarsz to help separated migrant families. they approved the plan. the money will go to help children in the area. city firms estimate there are more than 100 children in that situation in la alone. demonstrators are calling for ice to be abolished say they are not about to give up their fight any time soon. there are dozens of people camping out in tends outside the ice offices. these protesters are also calling for ice and they are saying that ice refusing to hold hearings for undocumented immigrants at this location because of their demonstration.

have a very easy drive. temperatures are starting out in the mid-50s or some of the inland areas. it is 58 in oakland. it is 55 in santa rosa. let's check out our highs for today. it will reach into the mid-to upper 70s inland. it is 67 in oakland and 63 in san francisco. this shows it will be heating up over the next few days. as we get a live look out the window it is probably a casual day for you. if you have to work t-shirt and jeans will keep you comfortable. you will need a jacket and maybe even a blanket as you relax and enjoy the fireworks. looking at temperatures in the low 60s. we will start to see clouds moving back in later tonight. if you make plans to head to the beach this weekend heads up that there is a hurricane well to the

south of us. it is a category 2. it will be moving a little bit closer. it will turn up waves and make for dangerous rip currents and waves at about 7 to 12 feet from thursday into saturday and that's also when our temperatures will be getting hot. looking at low to mid-90s for the inland areas and for next week. it is going to be pretty hot to start. san francisco 63 today and 73 on saturday. we have been looking at roads this morning. nothing major, right? >> nothing. i think that's always good news coming from the traffic department. it is all nice and quiet on the roads. you can see it by the map. we have a couple of slow spots but nothing serious. look at this. it is 5:52. it is the 4th of july. a lot of people are not heading to work. this is what the papers looks like. very pleasant when we are seeing
