on this post holiday thursday. i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. and of course, vianey will have the traffic for us, and now a update on the weather with ke expect this weekend. >> yes, the coast is going to be nice, and outside of the san jose areas, we will see that it is partly cloudy and we will talk about what is coming up for the weekend in a few minutes, and vianey is tracking the light drive this thursday. >> maybe some people got the fourth and the fifth off, and if you did, lucky you. but if you are headed out to work, it is no major issues there, and the speed sensors are looking pretty good, a although on my way into the report, i did notice that something popped up along the bay bridge which we know can become a very big headache. so let's go ahead and check in on some of the other bridges.
6:01 am
the san mateo bridge, we are seeing the taillights out there, and i will go to check on the bay bridge and have an update for you in a couple of minutes. >> thank you, vianey. and happening right now a warning for anyone headed to the beach. we are expecting large waves and dangerous condition on the coast start ting today. >> and we go out the pacifica where we are seeing a number of the big waves, pete, and explain what is happening and what to do if we find ourselves in a dangerous situation. good morning, pete. >> good morning to you, kris and marcus. this is a result of the hurricane conditions that we are seeing off of the coast in m mexico, but you are standing here in pacifica and not seeing much action as of right now, and of course, this is again, an effect of the beaches in sonoma and monterey county as far as to a hazardous warnings, but the big warning is the rip currents and sneaker waves. that is what you need to be aware of. and some tips courtesy of the red cross website that we got this morning if you are caught
6:02 am
in a rip current. most importantly stay calm and don't fight that current. swim parallel to the shore, and once you are free, you want to the swim towards the shore, and more importantly, if you can't make it to the shore, wave and call for help. and also, check conditions before entering the water, and that is going without saying, but if you are seeing somebody struggling out there in to a water, get a lifeguard and look for a lifeguard and call 911 if a lifeguard is not nearby. i want to jump into the incident that happened over the weekend at half moon bay at the state r ranch beach where a woman was going into the water to try to save three young family members caught in the underflow. she was swept out into the water as the other family members saved the three children, and so while this is not relate nod the dangerous wave, it is speaking to the dangers of the water out there. when it comes to the hazardous warnings, the national weather service is going to have big wave warnings expected to the last through saturday.
6:03 am
i'm pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> and anticipation for the president's next pick for the supreme court and the president says he is going to announce that nominee monday. >> and chris pollone is here to tell us what that could mean for the future of the supreme court. good morning, chris. >> good morning kris and marcus. the president and first lady watched the fireworks at the white house here in washington, but it is this pending pick of the supreme court justice that could bring even more fireworks to the capital. >> reporter: president trump and the first lady on the truman balcony celebrating independence day after welcoming mille tear members and their families to the white house. >> thank you for keeping america safe, strong, proud, mighty and free. >> reporter: the president building suspense this past week playing coy over who is going to

6:06 am
preparing for what to do when the boys get out, but as for how the boys will get out, the officials say they are getting crash courses in scuba diving which is risky, because the boys don't swim and they could panic. this is nbc's janice mackey freyer. >> do you believe they could do it? >> i believe they can, but it is a dangerous choice to make, and very easy to take a little bit of panic, and things can go wrong. >> the diver says a safer option is to drill a hole half mile down into the cave as you can see the illustration on the map, and by drilling the boys could avoid a risky two mile swim and hike to the cave's entrance and some of the passageways which are too narrow for the scuba gear. >> and we want to tell you about a united airline passengers who are finally back in the bay area
6:07 am
after a problem fixed in zurich, switzerland which took hours. and then once they took off they had to stop in dulles for a maintenance check. >> we were there for 4, 4 1/2 hours while they tried to fix the ac problem. >> and this morning, the airline is issuing a statement apologizing for inconvenience. and now, changes coming to sausalito to avoid problems like this, a grass fire that burned along walle doe grape. and a recent survey showed that the people who live in sauce e sausalito, when it comes to fire p protection, they are not getting enough of it. they are supportive of the clear space rules, but they need funding sources for a weekly

6:09 am
ahead. i will have more on that in a few minute, and vianey is going to be tracking the morning drive, and so far, so good. >> it has until now. and remember i had told you that i would check on an issue that popped up on the bay bridge. well, it is looking like they have now issued a sig alert for the bay bridge, and the reason being is there is a crash reported with injuries along westbound 80. and the westbound side of the bay bridge west of the treasure island and looking like the five lane is blocked and now as i came out here, the four lane is also blocked and heavy delays back d to backed up to the tolls at this point. as of right now, there is no e. e.e. t.a. of reopening the bridge. >> that is a rough morning for those folks. >> all right. 6:09 for you, and today on the bay, we are replacing toys "r" us as a retail giant is trying
6:10 am
to fill the void left by the popular toy chain. >> later, out of control, the new wildfire is raging in colorado as the crews are battling another fire that is now one of the largest in that state's history. you are watching today in the bay. state health code allows the restaurants 30 minutes to transport food in vehicles without coolers or refrigerator and we went undercover to find that some restaurants are taking risky shortcuts with your sa safety. how dangerous is this for the public to eat the food that is transported this way? >> thousands of people who potentially die of food borne illness every year. >> a risk that goes up when the food is not kept at the right temperature. the meat has been in your truck for four hours. are you worried that people could get sick from eating that food? >> yes, i do.
