e -- kavern going there and balk. >> we're going to talk to one of the divers who's been helping the rescue effort. first bill neel kbrry is at thc with the latest. >> if the risks weren't clear enough they've been underlined overnight by the death of the tough navy diver. of two his colleagues that i spoke to said they were shocked and a little bit afraid now, but they said we won't stop. we won't let the sacrifice go to waste. meanwhile, way down underground those boys face a new threat. it is now a potential death trap. these images filmed just hours before a diver died show the challenges they and the 12 boys

face. fast moving water often at head height, narrow passages, many completely submerged. a local diver was delivering oxygen tasks, but he didn't have enough of his own and collapsed on his way out. like most of these men, he was experienced. if he died, what about these boys? the youngest just 11. none of them can swim getting diving lessons now for a six hour trek through a death trap. two had birthdays this week, but there are no celebrations here. and officials say there's now a new threat to them. from the very people trying to save them. there are now so many divers in the cave that oxygen levels in the boy's cave are falling. so a three mile line oxygen line is being rushed in along with power and phone cables. american divers are now in the thick of it, part of a team of

30 and a global rescue effort the whole world is watching. demanders here are now convinced they just can't risk keeping the boys down there for weeks. the death of the diver they say has convinced them they need to be even more cautious when they move to get the boys out. we can't wait for perfect conditions, he says. time is running out. what thoughts are going through your head now after what happened last night and knowing what you do about the conditions down there? >> well, obviously it affects you about somebody getting in there, but i'm still positive. i think we can do a difference. >> reporter: this is what lies ahead for the boys. it's hard to imagine a weakened 11-year-old wading through this for six hours. the divers pray they know the risks and the monsoon rains are coming tomorrow to turn this into a raging torrent.

well, the boys themselves still aren't at full strength. doctors are monitoring them. they may get a boost today when they're able to talk to maybe even see their parents through telephone and fiber optic cables. and for their parents, this is an agonizing wait because every day it seems the dangers are growing. hoda, craig. >> bill, thank you so much. we are now joined by bruce. he is an american who is an expert diver helping the thai navy in the rescue operation. bruce, good morning. >> good morning. how are you? >> we are fine, thank you. we know how dangerous this operation is. we talked about the thai navy seal who died trying to transport oxygen tanks and it got us talking about how difficult it must be to even think about training these young boys to navigate that. >> you have to look at all options and how to get the boys out of there. diving is one of the options, but there are other options that

we're looking at trying to maybe bring them out from the top through some cracks or maybe having to drill down in the top of the chamber to take them out that way. >> would it take hours to get through if you were to go through the dive? would it take minutes? how long would it take? >> really it's longer going in than it would be to come out because when the divers are -- divers from the team i was on were going in, they were pulling ulling ves. themselves, the water was pushing against them, so they are pulling themselves in. i'll give you an example of a short distance. they told me they laid the line going in a couple hundred meters or so. it took three hours to go up and 15 minutes to come out. so actually where they are at, the flow would be pushing them out. >> it's been, as you know, nearly two weeks now since the rescue operation itself started. are folks on the ground still as optimistic that we're going to be able to get these boys out of

that cave alive with their coach? >> i've never seen more optimistic people in my life. everybody -- i've never heard anybody speak negative. everybody is positive. so many people going in the cave. i seen these guys -- it's hard enough to walk in that cave itself with the water and mud and everything and these guys are carrying hoses, big fire hoses and stuff like that, carrying them into the cave to start pumping water out. they were coming in one right after another. it's unbelievable. people were going around. i never got hungry while i was there. people going around passing out food to everybody. everybody is really optimistic. >> we're so grad to hear that, bruce. attitude is so much in this. >> we share that optimism. >> bruce, thank you so much. >> thank you. now to another tragedy out of thailand this morning. navy divers are searching for dozens of tourists missing this morning after a boat capsized off the resort island of pukat.
