some spots. >> yeah. >> i don't know if you got a chance to go outside and enjoy some of the heat, hopefully in the shade because it was definitely hot. right now, 65 degrees in the south bay. peninsula 60. trivalley waking up to 66 degrees. the city of san francisco, 57 degrees. and the north bay at 54 degrees. now we are seeing just a little bit of cloud cover. very high clouds in some spots. and then low lying clouds now. as we head into the afternoon we are going to climb in temperatures. the temperature trend you see here in san jose climbing into the upper 70s by 12:00. right around your lunch hour is when we are going to have that big warmup. you are going to notice, we are going to start quickly climbing into those 80s in san jose. and further into the interior valleys we are talking about the 90s in the forecast. now, we are seeing a couple spots with elevated heat dang he. that includes monterey. i'll go into detail on there.

there is a beach hazard in effect because we are going to see the waves churning up. >> on the day that everyone will want to be at the beach. we will stay tuned for that. we begin with breaking news in santa barbara county. thousands are being evacuated because of a fast-moving fire that ignited last night in the hills over santa barbara. fire officials say a home caught fire and it quickly spread as a brushfire. it's in goleta. 3200 who live in the area are under evacuation this morning. the intense heat and high wind are making it difficult for fire crews. more crews are expected to be deployed to santa barbara county today. more damage near san diego. the alpine fire has stopped spreading but it is only 5% contained. this was the scene yesterday 30 minutes of san diego near alpine

along interstate 8. intense heat, dry conditions and high winds fueled the flames yesterday afternoon. at one point interstate 8 had to be completely closed. the blaze decimated an entire decimated block in an instant. one man say he and his wife were caught offguard. they had only a minute to get out. >> i was dodging fire, going back and forth on the road and drove to the place where there was the least flame. and it worked. >> first responders immediately evacuated a mobile home park and set up an evacuation center. governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency for san diego county to help mobilize resources. here in the bay area, crews are still at the scene of a fire that destroyed a favorite south bay earth eatery early this morning. the three alarm fire moved quickly to engulf by the bucket in santa clara. the restaurant was a staple of

the community for nearly 60 years. here's a look at the aftermath this morning. you can see the roof partially collapsed. the restaurant had closed back in september of last year and was vacant when the fire was reported around 1:00 this morning. now crews will begin investigating the origin and the cause of that fire. in thailand, now, officials are considering different rescue strategies to save the 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped inside a cave. there was a major setback earlier this week when a former navy s.e.a.l. died while working to try to rescue the boys. now help is on the way from the bay area. a local interpreter flew from sfo last night heading to thailand. she will be this tuesday to help bridge the language gap between divers, officials, and journalists. she speaks four languages. >> i was very excited about the news when the boys were found.

it was celebration at the beginning and now i'm very, very worried. >> the boys and their coach are communicating for the first time through letters they are sending out with divers. some of the boys are requesting their favorite foods to be sent down. for the first time their coach apologizing to the boys' parents for leading their children into danger in the first place. silicon valley executive elon musk also is sending help to thailand in the form of engineers from his companies tesla and the boring company. their plan is to pump water from the cave with a special battery pack. musk also has plans to place an inflatable tube under water to help in the rescue. prayers are coming in from around the world for the soccer team and there is a generous offer that we hope the boys will be able to capitalize on. the president of fifa invited the boys to attend the world cup final in russia on july 15th. despite their dire situation,

the boys have been asking about the world cup matches. back here in the bay area, a two day crime spree is now over. police arrested this man, 29-year-old i.c. flores of san jose. he is accused of sexually assaulting five women in san jose and milpitas. one of the women he attacked is a 17-year-old at the mall. now to a tragic ending to a shooting in antioch. a mother and daughter who were both shot while they were asleep in their home have died. it happened around 4:30 thursday morning on delta fair boulevard near turner elementary school. the mother died at the scene. her daughter was taken to the hospital, where she later died. neighbors tell us a young son was in the home also during that shooting but was not hurt. no arrests have been made. you may notice more police presence along the embarcadero

in san francisco. weeks after a hit and run driver severely injured a pede cab driver sfpd is now beefing up patrols on that busy stretch of road. they say it was scheduled before the hit and run to ensure pedestrians and cyclists and tourists all remain safe. the pedi cab driver by the way is still in the hospital. >> well be stopping people. at the very least we will be speaking with them, advising them and issuing citations when it's appropriate. >> according to the city's travel association, one convention has decided to cancel any future events in san francisco, citing the city's dirty streets and unsafe atmosphere. yesterday was a day to honor the life of a teenage girl who sparked a national debate on dying. she was laid to rest yesterday. family and friends gathered at a church in oakland. five years ago, you may remember

the bay area. one father on the peninsula is waiting to be reunited with his child and his wife, each one being held in a different state. today in the bay's damian trujillo has this exclusive story. >> reporter: walter spends most of his time near the phone these days. he is hoping someone will call to say he can see his wife and child again. his family was detained at the border while traveling north from guatemala. walter says the ordeal is crushing for him especially because he has no idea how his daughter is doing inside an arizona shelter. what has him really worried is phone call he received from the detention center this week. walter says a southwest key program told him another child inappropriately touched her at the center twice. that is why we are blurring her face. walter says he is furious, adding that his daughter needs him now more than ever but his own immigration status prevents

peninsula 60 degrees. trivalley, 66 degrees. it's not really cold. you are waking up this morning, you are not going to need a jacket. not even a light sweater for thatert ma. san francisco at 57 degrees. a nice light breeze. you may notice a little bit of haze and fog along the golden gate bridge but that you should clear out okay. north bay 54 right now. in the afternoon we are going to notice slightly cooler temperatures in some spots. the 24-hour temperature change is not significant at this time. three degrees cooler in half moon bay. napa about five degrees cooler. yesterday we saw pretty hot temperatures. today temperatures will only be topping out into the upper 80s and mid 90s for interior valleys. however, there is a heat advisory for the monterey area. that's further down south. most of the bay area will be okay. no triple digits expected. but if i go down through

monterey and san benito, there is a heat advisory. temperatures anywhere from 98 to 109 degrees inland. so drink lots of water. high fire danger. and of course don't forget your pets. fur going to be heading out to monterey, these are what your temperatures will be like along the coast. even though there is a high heat advisory out there look at the temperatures along the water. very comfortable. in the 60s. not too bad out there. but if you will be hitting any of the beaches today, there is a beach hazard statement in effect. this is because of storm fabio that churned up some of the swell. we could be seeing possible currents seven to 12 feet through today and a very high swell. this is going to remain in effect through today. if you are going to head to the beach look out for each other, pay attention to the water and never try to swim against a rip current. swim parallel to the sand. i want to give you an update on the red flag warning that remains in place. this is for that fire down near

southern california. that red flag warning is in place through 6:p.m. tonight. temperatures are expected to still be in the 90s. although cooler than the triple digit record-setting temperatures they saw yesterday. monday, tuesday, and into wednesday you notice a very needed decrease in those temperatures. if you are going to be heading down there, expect much better conditions in the later portion of the week. rip currents in san francisco, 73. upper 60s for sunday. inland cools off just a little bit but sticks to the 90s for the entire first half of the work week ahead. >> all right. it is 7:21 right now. still ahead on today in the bay a new art installation in san francisco. take a look at that it's all the way from london. we'll tell you what the artist hopes to make all of us do with his work.

three people were taken to the hospital. it happened yesterday before the even rush hour on market street near the civic center bart station. investigators are working to determine what caused the crash. now to something most robbers, you think don't expect. a richmond family's fight back after a man breaks into their home. it happened at a home on ata mira drive near highland elementary school. a man we are told forced his way into the home just after midnight on friday. that's when a family member started shooting and hit the man. police say this is a quote clear case of self-defense. >> he had no other choice but to defend him and his family. >> this sort of thing doesn't happen around here. >> the intruder is in critical condition. police on the peninsula hope this video could help crack a cold case. the surveillance video is from the night of a deadly shooting in east palo alto in 2015.

officers found a man dead in a car on camelia drive near 101. a man was scene running from the area. but no arrests have been made in the three years since. a $10,000 reward is being offered for more information. secretary of state mike pompeo left north korea today without announcing any major breakthroughs in efforts to denuclearize the korean peninsula or to return remains of soldiers killed during the korean war. he met with officials in pyongyang for the last three days. he did not meet with kim jong-un. he said the talks were productive and that the two sides made a great deal of progress on some issues. pompeo said a north korean team will be meeting with officials at the border next week to discuss the return of the remains of the soldiers. all right.
