worried about the trade impact on their lives because of increasing prices. so this is where the rubber meets the road. >> yeah. an eye for an eye makes everyone blind. >> yeah. >> lastly let's turn to north korea where the president promises that the north koreans promised denuclearization. secretary of state pompeo, though, described the meeting as productive. but the north koreans seem to be disputing that. they're calling the u.s. gangster like in their demands for denuclearization. what do we make of all this? >> yeah. there's been a lot of bluster on both sides making it really hard to know where the negotiations actually stand. to expect anything, though, anything at all very soon is really wishful thinking. these negotiations, if they exist at all, will drag on for years. and even then we don't know what's going to happen. >> even then it's like three sides to every story. well, this one there are four, i
7:50 am
think. the fourth one is the truth, which will -- might not ever know. so many critical situations before us on all these fronts, all at once. what does this say for the u.s. and global security. >> you know, that's really the big question. trump supporters praise the president for moving boldly and quickly in new directions. they agree with his claim that other countries have taken advantage of the united states. but trump opponents, another way of looking at this. they worry that his political and economic movements are erratic and without any firm objectives other than just shape things up. they agonize that long-term the united states will be alone and without any allies in an increasingly unstable world. that's the concept of isolationism that we've seen the world go through before and often with not very good results. one fact is clear, one fact is clear, there are consequences from what we and others do. we're already seeing economic tremors from the tariffs and
7:51 am
serious, really serious political concerns about russia from our allies, especially in europe. how all this plays out? how all this plays out in trump's america first program, that remains to be seen. >> remains to be seen, but his supporters will remain his supporters and detractors will remain his detractors regardless of what he does. thank you for coming in. it is 7:51. still ahead on today in the bay -- did you get that? do you ever give your camera to someone asking them to capture something? we will show you what happened when one man asked a stranger to record his marriage proposal. >> oh, no. grandpa, what did you do? right now in san jose, 61 degrees. wind speeds nice and light at 5 miles per hour. your daytime highs expected and the changes ahead towards the workweek coming up. breaks her s your sneak peak of robin wri monday, kevin spacey's co-star breaks her silencsilenc.
