>> good morning. i'm phillip mena. >> and i'm melissa rehberger in for frances. we begin with breaking news out of brussels where president trump is meeting with nato leaders at this year's summit. the president meeting with the e.u. secretary-general this morning ahead of a working breakfast arriving in bres ulz last night as he's set to huddle with his european downtowner parts today before heading off to london and then helsinki for his one on one sit down with vladimir putin. >> despite the handshakes and photo ops we'll see today, it's the bubbling conflict between the alliance and president trump that will take center stage as he continues to bash his counterparts forcing the head of the european council to issue this rare rebuke. >> dear america, appreciate your allies. after all, you don't have that esident. taking a diplomatic swipe at mr. trump, overwhelmingly a miof the senate also lan a nato just hours before this morning's summer kickoff. let's go to nbc's kristen welker

with more of what we can expect out of brussels. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. president trump kicks off his first official day here at the nato summit with a breakfast with the nato secretary-general. they will be chewing over not only breakfast but some diplomacy as well, and then he has a series of meet and greets, some meet wgz hings with his counterparts. but the heighten tensions after president trump yesterdaycritiz members for failing to pay their fair share on defense. now, the reality is five out of 29 nato members have met their commitments for 2024, but that still gives the rest of the countries a number of years to live up to their goals. but there are deep concerns here that president trump is becomin increasingly alienated from his allies and that he may take steps even to, for example, pull out u.s. troops from key bases in germany, for example. and, of course, all eyes are on that high stakes meeting with russian president vladimir

putin. that will take place next week. a number of nato members concerned that president trump isn't being tough enough against russia. senior administration officials insist the president will press putin on key issues from meddling in the u.s. election to invading crimea, but will that be enough to calm legitimateers? remember, president trump is coming off of that g-7 summit in which he clashed with allies there. so, a lot of tensions here at the backdrop. democrats and republicans warning president trump that having negative meetings here at nato, but positive meetings with president putin would be disastrous. phillip? >> kristen welker, thank you. >> 12 soccer players who beat the odds aren't quiteheir coach quarantined while they are testing for infectioned and will likely remain in the hospital several days. family members have been able to see the b a window and able to talk to them by phone. psychologists say the boys'

government revealed only four migrant children were back with their parents ahead of the deed line. department of human services said it is working to verify once united. nbc's gabe gutierrez has more on the agonizing wait. >> reporter: a guatemala father is in agony in los angeles waiting to be reunited with his son in new york. the last time i tried to speak to him, he says, he was crying. he asked, don't you love me in 38 of 102 migrant children under 5 years old will be reunited with their families by the end of the day despite a court order. the remaining 64 children not reunited for reasons including parents with criminal records or incomplete verification. >> well, i have a solution. tell people not to come to our country illegally. that's the solution. >> reporter: this mother from el salvador asks in frustration, why was it so easy for them to
