francisco. i want to show you guys the set up here. this is getting transformed here for today's inauguration for london. back to the impact she is having on folks around the bay area. you to look at her story. she grew up in the housing projects before attending and going onto under an undergraduate degree and then a masters degree at near by u.s. f. from there she has had a pretty good political career here going onto serve as the president of the board of supervisors before being elected mayor of the city. before joining that did work as the executive director of the african american complex in the neighborhood she grew up in. she spoke with a man who grew up in the same housing projects. now, i did ask him, what is it going to be like when he sees

his childhood friend sworn in as the next mayor of san francisco. >> i will be very very excited and proud of her. you know, it may bring me to tears. to watch her grow and go to this level it's very amazing. you know, for her to be an african american woman, you know, it's just astonishing. >> astonishing indeed. we take you guys back out here live. she'll be making that inauguration speech roughly at 11:00 a.m. it will include who administer the oath of office. we'll talk more about the impact she is having with her election as the mayor. more on that at 5:30 a.m. >> all right. looks like we'll be witnesses history today. stay with nbc bay area. we'll have live coverage later this morning.

coverage begins at 11:00 a.m. right here on nbc bay area. a developing story for you right now. firefighters trying to determine what sparked two fires in the south bay. sadly flames killed four hours ns morgan hill. it started just after 2:00 ripping through that branch property that threatened 15 homes. it took the lives of those horses who could not get out in time. that fire is fully contained. less than an hour later the curry fire erupted in south san jose. it happen until santa teresa park. one woman hold us that she was preparing to take off with her kids. >> we ran across the street to go tell our neighbors right there whose house is just against the hills. they had no idea. >> no one was hurt in that fire and no homes were damaged.

new data shows hate crimes are happening more often. incidents are starting to flood social media. >> confrontation happened at a cell phone district. a witness who didn't want to be identified says hearing a racial slur is hurtful. >> people have that hate in their heart. it is crazy. i don't understand. it hurts a lot. i'm pretty sure it hurts a lot of people to see that video. >> in a new report the state attorney general says hate crimes went up 17% last year. debate continues along the peninsula.

they plan to build more than 2 million square feet of academic space by the year 2035. the big question centers on how much new housing the university should build and the impact it could have on people who live near by. the county plans to issue a final report in september. today you have another chance to hear what pg and e and reallocate other costs. another high ranking bay area tech company executive is stepping down, the racial discrimination case that forced her out.

good morning. this is today's top business headlines. wall street set to open in the red. the trump administration announcing plans to impose. it will retaliate. the new tariff will not go into effect for at least two months. the dow posting a four day winning streak up to 24,919.

nasdaq rising to 7759. rolling back recent drug price increases after the company was criticized by president trump last week. pfizer raised prices on drugs including viagra. the company reversed course after they poke with the president and they will keep prices at prejuly 1st levels until the end of the year or trump implements his health care plan, which ever comes first. starbucks will switch to bio degradable straws. they are also getting rid of plastic you tensiles. american says this move will eliminate more than 71,000

you can feel that in the air. all right. take a look. here in the bay area we have all heard of bike to work. today is that ube to workday. it is expected to draw nearly a thousand tubers. >> look at that. it looks like a lot of fun. >> a speedo at the bottom. >> i think it's that instead of tube to work. >> yeah. >> come to work in the wet suits. >> yeah. >> exactly. in the bay area we have a big wheel race. they do it down there. >> they do their own thing there. you don't need it. it has been pretty hot there. >> yeah. it has been hot here too. we are dealing with temperatures almost to 100 degrees.

we start out with a nice little cool down. okay. yeah, i just got the word from our producer that san francisco number is not right. we know we are all starting out with upper 50s across the board. as we take a look at our morning commute it is upper 50s heading out the door. it is a nice cool start. it has been feeling a little bit warmer than we normally feel as we head out the door in the morning. we know we have had very warm afternoons. so already at noon we are at 79 degrees in fremont. check out how to make plans for the rest of the week. today slightly cooler. in morgan hill up to 88. we are above normal with 94 in

antioch. it is 69 in the mission district. it is 85 in sonoma. a live look as you look out the window. you're standing in front of the closet. grb a hat and sunglasses. it will give yourself some shade. it will be all clear and bright. we have been seeing a lot of clouds we still have clear skies here. we have also seen lightning firing up around the sierra because of the moisture. as we go into the next couple of days the moisture moves into the bay area. by friday it will feel humid and it is going to be very warm. here is a look at our temperatures over the next few days. low 90s today and tomorrow and very warm on friday. we'll see a little bit more cloud cover. that humidity goes down for the weekend. it stays nice and cool with upper 60s. now you have more info on the

fire. >> yeah. we are looking at a roadside fire. there are not a lot of details. no slowing. all around we have green. i'm taking you down to the south bay. this is san jose. this is coming away from 101. reports of a fire and a fire truck now blocks your right two lanes. it will be a distraction. we don't see slowing because traffic is so very light. two lanes take it up into san jose just fine. we'll track that. so far it sounds like a small brush fire. many times we have that in the area. it may be what's going on. everything else is looking really clear here. over here construction going on and the closure through the area that has cleared up from overnight. no problems coming out. just typical slowing. coming over towards the bay bridge travel times are at their
