5:15 am
we have never run these kind of deficits during an economic boom before. car dealers are starting to realize the white house is quite serious about slapping new tariffs on imported cars. obviously, brands like bmw, which imports 70% of the cars it sells in the u.s., but this will affect more than foreign brands. even american car companies import cars. ford imports 21% of the cars it sells. general motors imports 39%. the good news is we'll probably more money. the latest report out of the san francisco fed shows wages are growing in the west. a couple times a yer, the san francisco fed sends a record to washington telling them how things are going out here on the west coast. that report is folded into other reports, into something called the beige book. now, i like the beige book because it's a snapshot of what's going on. for instance, i just read there's a shortage of plumbers, electricians, and truck drivers in the inner mountain west. also, cherry and raisin prices
5:16 am

5:18 am
films including the upcoming aquaman film this fall and next year's wonder woman sequel. >> you have to go through all of them there. >> at the hall of justice. >> meantime at the hall of justice. >> i have a friend who works in the industry. he said it's exhausting. comic-con, go for fun, but no. a lot of changes. you have to go to the phone booth, and they don't have a phone booth anymore. >> right now, a lot of people are worried about the weather today. >> the main concern today will be the higher humidity that could spark off a couple lightning strikes. as we get a live look outside in fremont this morning, we're seeing a little bit of patchy fog, low clouds in some spots. going to palo alto, this is our clear view. we'll see partly cloudy skies throughout the morning. temperatures in the mid 60s. it will be warmer to start out the morning due to the higher
5:19 am
humidity. we're going to reach into the mid 80s there today. let's go to a spot where it's going to be even hotter for today, reaching into the low 90s by 3:00. we'll be at 91 in martinez. your lunchtime temperature, still a little warm, not too bad. 82 degrees if you're getting ready to head out. we're going to have highs today reaching into the low 90s. check out morgan hill, 93 degrees again today. and 89 in san jose. 97 in concord. walnut creek, 95 degrees. for fremaunont, expect a high o 84. mid 60s for half moon bay. as you're making plans to head out maybe to the hiking trails in the tri-valley, if you're going around mt. diablo, it will be humid. partly cloudy and very warm. make sure you stay hydrated as the temperatures reach the upper 80s and low 90s. here's a look at the satellite radar. we can see more clouds. even some lightning strikes just offshore, but we will be watching out for that chance today as the clouds get closer to the bay area.
5:20 am
the potential of rain drying up before it hits the ground and still some lightning in the clouds could increase our fire danger as we'll see a lot more humidity moving in heading throughout the day. are you following me on facebook? i'm meteorologist care kari hall. let me know what your weekend plans are. we'll talk about the forecast coming up, and mike, you're seeing some problems for some of the tunnels. >> a couple tunnels. early in the commute, traffic is light. we're looking at green sensors pretty much everywhere, but i first have to call out the traffic alert for the treasure island, one of the exits there through the tunnel. this is eastbound getting away from san francisco. once you enter the tunnel area, be careful, the exit from eastbound 80, that's currently closed. we don't have an update for which chp experts to clear the off-ramp. you'll have to go over the commute direction and come back westbound. that may be an issue later. hopefully that will clear well
5:21 am
before the big buildup in the next few minutes. we're looking at also eastbound 24, we hear about debris in the tunnel itself. watch for flashing lights. it's countercommute. the commute direction out of arinda and contra costa county looks great. no problems. concord, antioch, danville. a smooth drive there. we're looking at a live shot for fremont to show you the volume. back to you. >> thanks, mike. >> coming up here on today in the bay, an emotional night in the world of sports. the moment from last night's espy awards everyone is talking about this morning. >> and don't forget to follow nbc bay area on instagram. we share beautiful pictures like this one from the city of monterey. gorgeous look at big sur. the road up there now open along 1. we'll be right back. do you recoe
