coming from northern california. air quality should be pretty good. we'll have to monitor that as we go through the day. a live look outside as we head to santa clara. it will start out with 60s heading into the low 80s today. we'll talk about all of that coming up. we have an early look at the morning commute. >> so far it has been fairly quiet out there. look at the speed sensors. we haven't seen any slowing coming up. i do want to give you a look at south bay drive times. northbound 101 looking at about 18 minutes. northbound 280 about seven minutes. northbound 85 from highway 101 only looking at about 19 minutes. so far you don't have to rush too much to get out the door. the traffic is not bad out there. the big story today, wild fires exploding in size across

california. thousands of acres have been scorched. right now there are 19 wild fires burning across california. these are the major fires on that map. the most destructive is the car fire. it stands at more than 95,000 acres. that's three times the size of san francisco. hundreds of structures are gone. six people dead and many missing. today in the is live now from the neighborhoods that have been swallowed by the flames. firefighters still a long way from getting that contained. >> yeah. they really are. they did jump containment from 5 to 17% overnight. we in the last hour have felt the wind pick up again. the damage in places like this overwhelming. this neighborhood really gutted

continued poor air quality. winds coming out of the west, northwest but may pick up as it continues go along. we'll continue to monitor fire conditions as we go throughout the day. we have breaking news. a deadly triple shooting last night. police were looking for the killer this morning. tom is live off of hill crest with what we know so far. goods morning, thom. >> good morning. the call came into police about 1:15 this morning, a call that there was a shooting outside applebee's restaurant. crime scene is still here. there are shell casings all out here. they counted 18 shell casings there. crime scene investigators are also looking at the deceased. we have one person who was

killed here. they are behind the hedge still as they wait for people to come and process the crime scene here. the coroner has to come, etcetera. we also talked to an eyewitness. he was putting air in his tires and he heard gunshots. he said he heard more than ten shots. two groups of people shooting at each other. one person was transport today the hospital and then later another person came to the hospital themselves with gunshots. this eyewitness said it was a crazy scene out here. >> first i thought it was fire crackers. after about ten shots i realized these are guns getting shot we

have at least one suspect, possibly more who police will be looking for. good news to report as far as help for that investigation. there are several here as well as the shell station and the jack in the box right next door. they will probably have plenty of video to try to find these suspects. th thom jensen today in the day. this video is after the choice. it started at redwood city. it is about 1:40 in the morning. officers tried to pull over a woman driving a porsche.

up to a deadly duck boat back to you. we have details about the final moments leading up to that deadly duck boat accident. 17 of the 31 people on bofrd died. the ntsb release add time line based on audio and video from the boat's recording system. they say it shows the captain giving safety instructions before the ride starts. during the last three minutes of the video before it shuts off the captain apparently radios for help and the boat at that point is still above water. if you're heading to the beach with your kids one florida

county. they are battling a fire close to home. >> reporter: that's right, scott. good morning. evacuation orders are still in place for parts of lake county. behind me you can see what the steel fire has already done. the steel fire broke out saturday afternoon and spread to 150 acre. it is now 65% contained. several homes have been burned. the bigger fire is call from here. combined they burned over 30,000 acres. both are just 5% contained. they say the biggest challenge, hot, dry and windy.

we are seeing an outpouring of support. she requested donations on social media and hours later her suv was full. she started the drive for diapers, cups and other items to help people she never even met. now she learned her great grandmother lost her home. >> my great grandmother was only able to get out of the house with clothes on her back and a box of papers. knowing there are so many other families that have the same problem having minutes to get out and losing everything; that is devastating. >> also joining forces with volunteers. main street designs downtown is asking people to donate items tomorrow from 10:00 until 6:00. she will team up with others and drive four hours to a shelter near the car fire. we have posted dropoff spots

barrier. lanes have been closed to allow equipment to be delivered for that project. workers can start constructing platforms under the bridge. it will be 150 feet wide, 50 feet long. they say it will take roughly 30 days to build. it should be completed by 2021. if you're up early you might need to change your route to 680. crews are repaving the road, specifically a one mile stretch. the work continues from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the goal is to make the road wider. >> i'm here. we were doing so well with no major or minor accidents. we have seen a couple of them pop up on our traffic maps.

an unusual plan to help students and their families. the examiner report is on november 1st. it will be opened for homeless students and their families. administrators say about 10% of their students are homeless. supervisors approved a seven month pilot program. tonight's meeting takes place at the school. such a huge hit. having an impact. the chronical says there's nowhere to park. it is averaging close to 4,000 people a day and they have allotted about 1,000 parking spots. the spots are usually full before 6:00 a.m. bart now plans to open a new lot near by for hundreds more cars. >> we have flu details.

san mateo at 70 degrees. expect a high of 65 degrees in the north bay reaching 88 in santa rosa. napa today 85 degrees. if you're going to the a's game you do need long sleeves and something warm to wear. the clouds start to move right back in. inland areas will stay in the 90s. not much cooling here. it will heat up again for the weekend. for san francisco it stays cool, cloudy and misty with gusty winds all week long. you're taking us to the back up in the tri-valley. >> that's right. we have several issues. if you look at this map you can see the main issues are really through the area through livermore as well. if you're driving in this is what you're going to encounter this morning. so i want to show you a couple

you may notice construction at an east bay bart station this week. they making upgrades to the parking garage. the construction starts wednesday. it should be done by the 22nd. there will be temporary parking lots near the elevators. a reminder as it is heating up a lot of people drive with windows down. running the air-conditioning does increase fuel consumption and more efficient than driving with windows down at highway speed. it makes the car drag making your enjogine work harder.
