it was devastated by the car fire. fie firefighters have so much still ahead of them. >> they really do. the damage here is overwhelming. >> there are 17 major fires with over 200,000 acres currently burning. >> the worst, the car fire where at least six are dead. melody and her great grandchildren. firefighters say 70 people are still missing. >> more than 500 structures in

northern california alone reduced to rubble and ash as flames continue to spread throughout the state and intensify. >> extreme is just an understatement. draping water from the air. >> those folks 48 plus hour shifts. they were going on pure adrenaline. they were doing everything they could to save structures and flame.ves with no relief in >> we felt the wind starting to pick up over the last hour and a idea of o here. the manpower on the ground right now. more than 300 engines in the air is 17 helicopters in all dedicated to the car fire.

>> reporter: this happened at the applebee's here off of highway 4 at around 1:15. you can see that they still processing the crime scene here. a lot of gun shells found all over the parking lot here. an eyewitness who talked with today in the bay said he thought it was fire crackers or something. he heard it and he looked and watched as two groups of people were shooting at each other. one was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. a short time later another man who was shot showed up at the hospital. they found shell casings all over the parking lot at was zone. >> first i thought it was fire

crackers. after about ten shots i realized these are guns getting shot. there is no where for me to hide. it was pretty scary. >> police officers and crime scene investigators have been on the scene here for more than four and a half hours blocking evidence. we have not seen the coroner out here and have not gotten any identities of the victims. lking forups of people. one way is all of the security cameras around here. there were four on this side of the applebee's. there is a jack in the box over here. all the way around here there are security cameras. you can bet they will get some evidence from them. today in the bay. >> all right. we'll check in with you later. new this morning a high

high temperatures for the afternoon. we'll have a wide range in temperatures from 60 at half-moon bay and san jose up to 85 degrees. we'll talk about what's had for the weekend coming up. we have been tracking a couple of problem spots mostly in the east bay. >> the east bay seems to be one of the areas where it just kind of continues and carries over and causes another accident. looking at the bay area we have slowing in the sou that no majo accidents to report. i want to get to some of the slower spots. let's look at some of your drive times. southbound 880 from 238 to highway 84 looking at about 17 minutes. unfortunately the tri-valley a little slow try to go recover from an earlier crash to 680. it has gotten much better. it got to up 25, 27.

we are keeping a very close eye on several massive wild fires burning across the state this morning. here is the very latest. there are 19 active wild fires in california right now including several here in northern california. two fires burning burning. we are live this morning. closer to home firefighters how is everything looking so far? >> reporter: yeah. that's right. as the sun comes up we are starting to get a much better idea of the damage caused by the fire. you can see several homes have been burned. what you're looking at is the

driveway that leads to the garage. the steel fire broke out in napa county on saturday afternoon and quickly spread to 150 acres. it is only 65% contained. chp monitoring road closures. i want to show you video from a other big fire burning north of here. it is the ranch fire and the river fire. they are reporting that together they have purned more than 30,000 acres and each fire is just more than 5% contained. >> once the wind picked up we had a lot of flames coming over. >> whole town is quiet.

no fire. i haven't seen it like this before. >> we packed up everything and left. i had to let my family know and i learn we have been evacuated also. it declared a state of emergency. fo closures and we will be out here all morning monitoring the fire's progress. today in the bay. >> we'll check back in with you. here is the latest on the wild fire in shasta county.

the fire damaged and destroyed. the fire is a little less than 20% contained. we'll have a live life-support coming up. >> during times of straj di we have seen an outpouring of support for victims of the fire. she learned her great grandmother lost her home in the fire. >> she was only able to get out with the clothes on her back and a box of papers.

here are the top stories on today in the bay-- firefighters are still trying to get the upper hand on the deadly carr wildfire .. burning in shasta county. there are now 6-people dead .. with others still missing. as of last night the fire has burned at least 95-thousand . back back. fire fiegtders try to go get handle ton car fire in shasta county. a live look from napa county where you can see the aftermath. it is one of two significant wild fires burning. the one near napa, 150 acres

burned, 65% contained. the other large fire further north in lake counties forced new evacuations around clear lake yesterday. about 14,000 acres burned, 5% contained. coverage of the deadly wild fires continues next. we'll have live coverage next as firefighters struggle to contain the deadly fires. police investigating an earlning triple shooting. it happened about 1:00 in the morning. police say officers arrive today find one of them died at the scene. no other update on either of those victims. so far no arrests. new this morning a high speed police chase. you may have heard police sirens moving past overnight. it started about 1:40 in the
