warm day. >> we'll take a look at all of our area. we have a look at the morning. it has been cleared out along 280 with a minor fender bender. nothing to worry about there. speed sensors aren't picking up any major slowing. >> all right. thank you very much. it is 5:00 right now. now to our other top story it is burning in northern california. so far no signs of stopping with a quarter million acres burned across the state. i want to get you to one of the most intense situations that's happening right now, the

mendicino fires. the fires have scorched more than 68,000 acres. both are 5% contained. seven homes are already gone and more than 10,000 structures remain in the n its path right now. >> the car fire that is burning also showing no signs of stopping right now. this is now considered the 7th most destructive in state history in terms of structures destroyed. here is where it stands there. more than 700 acres scorched. more than 800 homes gone and thousands more threatened. it has already taken the lives of six people including two firefighters. thousands are people are out of their home and they need all of the help they can get. we have posted local donation sites on nbcbayarea.com. one minute past 5:00.

now to our other top stories. city leaders will consider putting a new business tax that would charge companies with at least 5,000 employees more than $400 a person. bob is live in cupertino. they are not the only one considering this. >> correct. good morning to you. the city of mountain view has put ahead count tax up far vote on the november ballot. tonight the city considering to do the same which would have a tremendous impact on companies like apple. you can see it here in the city. technically what the city of cupertino is looking at a restructuring of the business license tax. voters were to pass in november they were to employee 5,000 or more people would be taxed

temperatures heading into the low 80s by noon and upper 80s by 1:00 today. the seven day forecast is up at the bottom of the screen now showing our forecast. let's go to san jose getting out the door. now, our temperatures in san jose will be in the upper 50s at 6:00 and then mostly 60. it is up to 83 in cupertino. it will start to get hot and drifts of smoke moving in. winds coming in from the west during the afternoon to evening hours. and then in hayward expect high of 75 degrees. some low 80s. san mateo reaches 73 degrees. keeping it chilly with times of mist and drizzle. winds coming in at about 18

miles per hour. moving into the north bay only 59 degrees. napa will reach a high of 85 degrees. i wanted to show you the wider map and show you some of the rain that's starting to surge into parts of the southern sierra. we'll be watching for that. we are in that weather pattern where high pressure is set up over the southwest. it will begin to move off to the east just a bit and cause less intense heat for the bay area. it will get cooler for the pacific northwest. it will edge its way into northern california where we continue to monitor the car fire around shasta county. we have had a lot of updates on facebook and twitter and follow me as well. i'm on facebook, instagram and also on twitter. looking at our temperatures in the low 90s for the next few days. it will bring it back to the upper 80s. we are a little bit warmer than

we are talking about the car fire. firefighters can't seem to catch a break right now. there are more than a dozen active wild fires burning across the state. >> one of the most intense we are following is mendocino and lake counties. the combined fires scorched more than 68,000 acres. they are just 5% contained. seven homes already gone. more than 10,000 structures in its path right now. we are live with a closer look at the devastation. firefighters still have a long way to go. they are only at 5%. >> reporter: that's right. we are here at highway 20 and lake county. it might be tough to see right now but thick smoke blanketing the sky making it tough to breathe. we saw chp police monitoring road closures. this right here highway 20

closed. we have even seen the national guard. we are told it is a 50 mile stretch now under mandatory evacuation orders. according to the fire this has more than doubled in just 24 hours. this complex fire is actually two fires. the ranch fire and the river fire which is close to here. overnight firefighters continued to battle this fire. their top priority trying to reenforce and keep the fire from spreading. they described it as a very aggressive fire adding the fire behavior remains extreme. the fire broke out a few days ago. few people had much time to prepare. many grabbing whatever they could as they tried to escape. the toughest part, keeping track of the status of their house. some refusing to evacuate.
