be mostly cloudy and 59 degrees. comfortable and sunny at 72 at 10:00. a lot of sunshine. if you're not able to enjoy your day outside maybe your heading to work. it will be 58 at 7:00 and reaching into the mid-80s as the day goes along. we have a look at the morning commute and the slow down in the south by and east bay. >> we were doing so well during the 4:00 and 5:00 hour. we have a slow down in the south bay. this is due to a crash here. it looks like it's a crash involving four vehicles. this is definitely starting to cause slowing down near san jose. we have another issue right before getting on the bay bridge. it looks like a fender bender. it is causing slight delays there. they are already there working to clear it out. hopefully they will get it out

in time. asa aside from this i did just see another crash pop up along that area. we'll have more coming up. back to you. >> thank you very much. the massive wild fires burning in northern california this morning. so far no signs of stopping with a quarter million acres burned across the state. at first we want to get one of the most intense situations right now. the mendocino fire happening right now. right now the two combined fires have scorched more than 48,000 acres. seven homes are gone. more than 10,000 structures are in the path of that fire right now. it is considered the seventh most destructive in history in terms of structures destroyed. here is where the situation

stands there. more than 100,000 scorched. thousands more still threatened. it has taken the lives of six people including two firefighters. right now thousands of people are out of their homes and they need all the help they can get. we posted local donations on our site and we'll also post any updates on the fires as soon as we get them. it is 6:03. city leaders consider a new business tax which would have a big impact on some tech giants. it would charge companies more than $400 per person if they employee more than 5,000 people. we are live at apple headquarters. obviously apple is pushing back as well. >> yes. the city council will decide whether or not to put it up for a vote on the november ballot.

if it were to pass it would have a tremendous impact on companies. you can see right behind me here in the city of cupertino. typically it is a restructuring. if voters were to pass the business they employee 5,000 or more people would be taxed annually $425 per employee. apple is the city's largest employer with around 13,000 employees here which means apple would be paying around $5.5 million to the city of cupertino annually. it would generate money to help improve the roads and alleviate traffic congestions. apple did send a letter yesterday to the city of cupertino pointing out that the investments already made in the city along with improvements.

it spilled diesel fuel out here. this accident happened yesterday evening. they still have the onramp closed off as they work for that. they are reporting that it will be reopened and it will be 7:00 a.m. as of right now it's the onramp that's closed off. i don't see any major delays. if you weren't aware of that accident last night you know that onramp is closed. you want to take surface streets before running into that issue. we are seeing delays just before getting onto the metering lights. add that on top of metering lights and we are spotting heavy delays. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. it is 6:31 right now. look at all of that smoke. we are monitoring 20 active wild fires burning across california this morning. one of the largest is the complex fire burning in mendocino. they burned more than 68,000

acres combined. both are just 5% contained this morning. more than 10,000 structures are threatened. it is called the ranch fire and river fire. we have a map to show you where it is burning. today in the bay we have a closer look at some of the damage the fires have already created. the smoke must be so hard to breathe in. >> that's right. as the sun starts to come out we are deaf flitly gettingfinitely idea it has been very busy out here this morning. behind me you can see the national guard is out here. on our drive up we have seen chp and police monitoring the roads and road closures like this one on highway 20. i want to show you video of fire crews at work. the mendocino complex is

actually two fires. the ranch fire and the river fire. i checked in this morning. here is the very latest. crews worked to fight this fire. the top priority reenforcing the containment lines hoping to keep these fires from spreading. >> everybody working together is what is pushing us in the right direction to try to get this fire contained. >> one of the biggest challenges, the weather, in particular the wind. winds began picking up 20 feet flames pushing towards finally. it prompted a new round of evacuations. 10,000 structures are being threatened. cal fire is warning more evacuation orders are likely to come given how unpredictable the fires have been. many of these were given very little notice grabbing whatever they could as they tried to get

distance. you can send them to isee@nbcbayarea.com or do it on facebook and twitter as well. a man accused in the murder and sexual assault of maddie middleton is due in court. she accused of killing her in 2015 at their apartment complex. police say he admitted to it during questioning. the case has been slowed down to move that case back to you've nile court. five men under arrest in a kidnapping plot. they kidnapped a man from a motel in sacramento on saturday. they are accused of driving him south of tracy and demanding $30,000 in cash. they located the victim who they say was also tortured.

suspects are all from south carolina. police are not saying why they ended up in berkeley. >> it is 6:35. a story you'll only see on today in the bay, prostitution continues to be a problem in the mission. neighbors old and new say they are fed up. today in the bay reports city leaders are working to keep neighbors and the women on the streets safe. take a morning stroll during daylight and it's hard to miss the unique art work. you'll also notice surveillance cameras which reveal a much different picture at night. >> it is terrible for the community. it has been allowed to flourish for basically since i have been here. >> business owner has seen prostitutes walking these streets for decades. this is from 20th and shotwell. he believes the sex traffic is also responsible for shootings and other crimes in the

neighborhood. his neighbor who has lived here since the 1970s calls police every single night. >> we live in an area after 6:00, 7:00 at night we need to remain at home because there's so much danger out there. >> hugo echols learned that very quickly. >> it is his daughter who says she gets harassed simply walking into their home. >> whistling, hey, what's up from out the car, things like that. >> a recent incident with her young niece makes her emotional. >> my niece is about to be 13 years old. she recently got harassed. she is wearing a simple top. you can tell in her face she is a child. >> we took the concerns to city hall to see what the city can do to address this decades old

let's talk about this air quality. in the north bay and inland parts of the east bay we had all of that smoke coming by. today no different. the wild fires are still going on in northern california but good for the bay in the coast and south bay. we'll see temperatures in the low 0s. it will be in the low 80s by noon and then if you're on your way here might need a light jacket. later today it will be sunny and mid-80s by early afternoon. let's gate look at high temperatures spread out across the bay area. it is cloudy today and the a's

have been so great. if you're going out there first pitch at 62 degrees. cool as breezy with clear skies. check out radar. we have had rain developing to the south and southern sierra lightning has been developing. we have been stuck in weather pattern with heat. heading into the weekend there will be slight cooling which is key for the car fire. looking at our seven day forecast only come down a few degrees heading into sunday and early next week but making some progress here. san francisco keeps us steady. we have been tracking the morning commute. any major issues as of yet? >> no. we are starting to see delays due to earlier crashes. you can see the east bay typical slowing along 880. i do have a crash in the south
