good morning and thank you for joining us. i )m scott mcgrew in for marcus washington. and i )m laura garcia. good morning everyone. marcus has a well deserved vacation. >> so does mike. >> no kidding. >> good morning. let's get straight to the forecast right now. >> it starts out with clouds and fog flenear the coast. we are going to see clearing throughout the day. we'll see the sun all day long. expect it to start out cool and we'll see it warming up with a lot of sunshine. today at noon we are at 78 degrees. south bay getting a look at our micro climate there. it is ranging from 81 to 94 in morgan hill. we'll talk more about what's ahead for the rest of the week. it is starting to clear up. >> there were two crashes that was causing a bit of a headache for some of the folks out there.

you can see the overall bay area not too bad out there. i want to get right to that crash. it is still seeing a couple of delays. all lanes are now open. so chp reporting they have removed any of that out of the way. it was a crash involving three vehicles with injuries. we are still seeing slieg ght delays but it should clear out as that traffic works to recover. we are not seeing any major impacts out on the road. >> back to the late ets on the complex fire now. the situation for firefighters escalating. >> more homes burned and the flames flared up. >> it is two wild fires growing in lake and mendocino valley. the fire currently at more than 80,000 acres. it is four times the size of

concord. it is 22% con tand. we don't know how many homes have burned overnight but thousands more are still in the flame's path this morning. we are heading to the area this morning. we'll have a live look coming up in half an hour. firefighters can't seem to catch a break. another fire popped up last night. evacuations are underway for what is called the eel fire. this is to the east near the mendocino national forest. right now it has burned nearly 900 acres. this is starting to pop up on social media. this fire is growing. follow us on facebook and twitter for updates. in other news with less than 100 days until midterms facebook says it found what appears to be efforts to influence our elections. there are fears that russia is behind it again. today in the bay live on capitol

hill with what sflaenators plan do about it. good morning. >> good morning. today the senate intelligence committee will hear more about what facebook found and what the trump administration is doing to try to prevent russia or anyone else from having an influence on your vote. there seems to be early signs this may be the same russian hackers that were behind the ads that were on social media. this time facebook says they have shut down 32 accounts on facebook and instagram pages and accounts that were fake and were seeking to create further among american voters about things like immigration, urging pro tests against white supremacists when the groups did not exist we

a passenger plane bursts into flames. all 103 people on board survive. we are hearing from a passenger. the plane was headed from durango to mexico city. though no one died at least 80 are hurt including ten americans. we speak to one passenger who described the terrifying ordeal. >> you kind of felt like something was wrong. at that point i just started out of instinct bracing for impact as the plane started jolting and i'm slamming into the ground. police say they aregsed two men in the connection of the

death of billy ray scott. his body was found in a reveen in santa clara county. they believe they killed him in an apartment before dumping his body. he was arrested last week and frazier was already in custody on an unrelated crime. a man used a cell phone to film a confrontation with henry sentae. he pleaded nlgt to robbery charges. it is 5:08. it is hard to ignore trash along the highway. they will discuss what they are doing to improve the situation. and san francisco's

chinatown will remain cannabis free when it comes to new businesses. we talk with neighbors who say the current conditions are nerve racking but there are a lot of crews monitoring potential trouble spots. >> and right now it's 5:09. we wake up to cool temperatures and mostly clear skies across the south bay. a live look outside in down ton san jose. it looks nice and quiet. our temperatures will be in the up are 50s. we are going to get a lot of sunshine. be prepared for a cool morning and nice and warm afternoon. mostly sunny skies will warm up our temperatures too.

200 billion from 10% to 25%. the federal reserve will decide whether to raise interest rates again. you need to listen about raising inflation. despite all of the trade war talk and concern the dow ended up 4.3%. it is the second best month of the year so far. all right. to that little company up the road from you guys, apple posted a huge quarter. the service side of the business, the app store, growing at more than 30% a year. apple also upbeat about the current quarter. not only do they hit a new record high today but inch ever so closer to becoming the first $1 trillion market cap company. more changes are coming to movie pass. they are raising the price of a standard plan from $9.95 to $14.95.

the rainbow. >> kind of cool though. >> it is. it looks like they drove through that into the rainbow. we see them all of the time. summer we kind of miss it. it's nice to see the video there. >> we have rain across southern california and the sierra. here is a live look outside. a nice calm start to the day. i have to talk about this air quality. we have had grayish brownish looking skies. it doesn't really feel good to be out there very long. we have drifts of smoke in the north bay and east bay. elsewhere we have had improved air quality. if you're heading out today that's where you will have the smoke moving by today. at 8:00 we are at 60 degrees. at noon 78 degrees and reaching into the upper 80s later today.

here is a look at the high temperatures coming down several degrees. we are going to see the highs in concord reaching into the low 90s. it is 83 in napa. it is 86 in san jose. look for a high of 84 degrees. it will be very nice and comfortable out there for the a's game before they hit the road. we'll be at first pitch around 63 degrees. it will be very comfortable reaching into the mid-60s there. we also have first wednesdays at walnut creek if you want to go out there once you get off of work into the evening hours. we'll be at 82 degrees to start. here is a look at that rain and the lightning that's been going ochblt this on. we could see there are light ning strikes and rain has tapered auchlt

the remains of 55 military members are arriving from north korea.

the v-p is participating in an "honorable carry" ceremony as the remains return to american soil. the transfer of the u-s military members is part of an agreement tnchts transfer of what we believe to be u.s. military members is part of an agreement reached between president trump and kim jong un. the remains have not been identified yet. in you video shows a heroing story of survival for a dog in grease. the dog was found hiding. look at that. covered in ashes and burned. poor thing. it killed scores of people there. they were trying to feed it. rescuers shot this video. the dog was said to be very afraid. the volunteer coaxing him out. he is expected to make a full

recovery. no doubt after a really good bath. not easy to stay cool in the summer. your pets may be suffering more than you. dogs pant. that's all they can do to try to release that heat. you need to know the symptoms including heavy panting. they could get weak, may stumble or even collapse. if your dog starts showing any of these symptoms cool them down with water on their neck or legs. don't use ice. >> ice tends to shut down the vessels because it's so cold. >> use common sense. don't take your dog out while it's hot unless it's for swimming. 5:25. people have a new tool to help in case of emergencies. here is how it works. you log into smart 911.com and create a profile with information that would be helpful for first responders when you an emergency.

good morning frm welcome back. we start out with clear and comfortable temperatures during the morning hours. upper 50s at 7:00 and it is going to be a nice day. at noon 76 degrees. you'll want to take a look outside. expect it to be jacket weather with mid-50s at 6:00. san jose reaching 84 degrees. they say the commute is looking flies and quiet. >> it is. look at our traffic maps. cleared out a coupleover fender benders that happened early on. we did have stalled vehicles right before the bay bridge that has been moved out. i have this live picture. look at that. it's 5:30. that's around the time the

metering lights come on. this is your early morning kplut. that back up is very real. back to you. >> thank you. our coverage continues this morning on the devastating wild fires burning across northern california. right now we are monitoring new flare ups in the complex wild fires. overnight more homes burned as firefighters raced to contain these fast moving flames. here is the latest numbers from the mendocino fires. the fire currently at more than 80,000 acres, that is four times the size of concord, 22% contained. thousands are in the path of the flames today. we have had updates all week. you talk today cal fire. what did they have to say?

we are near highway 29 where the fire activity kicked up burning some homes. behind me you can see fires still burning. take a look at how destructive it has been. here is a report from earlier this morning. she has been out here covering these fires. she has a before and after this multi-million dollars home that was destroyed late last night here in lake port. i also want to show you video as the ranch fire jumped the containment line and goon sbega set fire. the ranch fire is one of two fires that make up the complex fire. she said the fire picked up in activity especially the ranch fire that was pushed along by

the change in the winds. she said the winds shifted from west to north and it was a hotter drier wind that lead to glows of orange and red. these fires have been burning since friday. some good news though. some of the mandatory evacuation orders have been lifted and people have been allow today go home. yesterday we reported that areas were evacuated. they have been allowed to return. some families were determined to stay put and hope for the best. >> we won't. we'll be fine. we'll be okay. we always are. >> we were told upwards of 19,000 people were evacuated. cal fire warns for residents to be ready for more evacuation orders. it all depends how this fire burns. cal fire will hold a community

meeting tonight. they will be there to answer questions and give them an update as to what's going on. today in the bay. >> from the fire line, thank you. now to another fire burning in mendocino county. this is burning just east here near the national forest. a little more than 100 miles northeast of the complex fire. right now it burned a little more than 900 acres. and as far as the car fire that's near reading, we have good news. containment up to 30%. it burned 112,000 acres, that's nearly the size of the city of san jose. right now the search continues for four people who remain missing. more help is coming from the bay area for people effected by the car fire. a caravan of donations is leaving in a couple of hours. you can track the fire or find out how you can help on your web

site. it is 5:34 right now. a last minute scramble for students at one south bay charter school. it turns out it won't be opening after all. we have more on the reason why and what are parents supposed to do now chris? >> hi there. as you know you are likely getting our school supplies ready, getting uniforms ready. about 300 families are wondering what's next for their children come fall now that that charter school is delaying opening by a year. the web site says it is planning to open in the fall of 2018 for dra t traditional kinder gard traditional kindergarten.

they requested a downtown campus. san jose unified offered where i am this morning which is about five miles away from where the enrolling families live. they report that the campus is the only campus for san jose that has a 20,000 square feet and classrooms available that are also appropriate for middle school students. they told them it is too far from the families that it intends to serve. so the only option was to delay the opening until next fall. it is not clear how or where san jose will find that space they are asking for downtown between now and then but we did just get a release -- press release from the promts academy charter saying if it doesn't work out they will be looking at private options as well. i did reach out to promise academy and the county office of education. when they tell me where they

stand today i'll make sure to let you know. follow me on twitter and on facebook. today in the bay. >> thank you, chris. a man accused of sexually assaulting women while posing as a ride share is in court this morning. he pleaded not guilty last month in the so called ride share rapist case. investigators say he waited outside san francisco bars and targeted women looking for their actual ride share vehicles. today the judge is expected to hear arguments about bail. back here in the bay area city leaders want to know what's going on. reporting supervisor is calling for a hearing to get to the bottom of recent slowdowns. she says it is effecting at least 30 routes across the city.

any type of extension is always great when it comes to commuters. across the bay area we have done pretty okay. in terms of south bay this did pop up along 101. chp not reporting any accidents in that area. i will be looking at what's causing that slowing. i'm starting to notice slight slowing. it is 11 minutes towards the san mateo bridge. this could be one of the culprits as the metering lights are definitely on right now. they have been on for a little under ten minutes.
