49ers in the history books. in hours the greatest nachl ts in history will flock for a team tribute. today in the bay kochbts right now. a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. >> marcus has the week off. let's get your morning started right with a check of the weather. >> it looks great out there starting out with clouds, slightly cooler temperatures across the bay area. it could be what we expect today. here is a look. a little bit of a breeze. you can see the flag waving. we are going to see the clouds clearing out. temperatures in the upper 50s as we start out heading into the upper 70s by early afternoon. if you're on your way out around san jose it will be about 58 degrees. if you wait a little bit later it will start to heat up. at noon 76. we'll take a look at that coming up. we have a look at the morning

commute. i'm seeing a couple of yellow cones on your map. >> yeah. nothing to be concerned about it a couple of spots not causing any heavy delays. it is more off the shoulder here. look at the overall bay area. we have some slowing in the south bay. it is due to typical morning commute. let's get to things you can keep in mind as you make your way out the door this morning. one is the metering lights have been on since about 5:30 this morning. you can expect heavy delays. another thing i want to bring your attention to is the san mateo bridge. chp did issue a high wind advisory as you head out the door this morning. a couple of things to keep in mind. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> want to get you caught up on the major firings burning in california. these are live pictures in lake county where the fire is still burning. this is the river fire.

we will have a live report in about 20 minutes. more than 80,000 acres have burned. it is 22% con daned rigtained r. the car fire has burned more than 112,000 acres, nearly the size of san jose. right now the search continues for four people who remain missing. we'll continue to follow those fires. also happening today former 49er star will come together to honor the man wloz cast launched a dynasty. >> we are live in san francisco. we are sharing exclusive new interview. >> yeah. it is taking place a few hours from now.

dwight clark will also be remembered for when he scored the winning touchdown during a championship game propelling the 49ers to their first super bowl victory. former team owner was with clark just before he passed away from als it was this past june. he kissed lark on the fore aid and that he hloved him. he said he has written it and rewritten it seven tieps. clark spent his final months also living in montana. >> i don't think there was a person throughout his entire career that didn't like him. he had names for guys.

some of them urging people to demonstrate at homeland security headquarters against immigration and customs enforcement. some of them setting up a counter protest similar to the rally we saw in charlottesville earlier. all of these not legit. they are designed to incite racial tensions among the public and voters leading up to this election. as we realized we saw that the russians were behind the fake ads that were on facebook now it looks like there are other social media accounts, groups that are being set up to try to do the same thing. congress leaning on social media companies to try to root them out and get rid of them. they are also looking at what they can do to get russia to back off.

headlines. stocks did rally yesterday. markets rose on reports that the u.s. and china are back seeking talks to the trade dispute. they say president trump seeking additional tariffs on chinese products. on today's watch list we have reports from hiring in the private sector. they were better than expected. the dow rose, best month seance january. it sold more phones and did so at higher prices. apple also upbeat about the current quarter. that could trade at a record high. also apple is closing in on another milestone. it could be today, the first company to top a trillion in market value. and you'll be able to use

i have also been tracking what's happening across the state. we have a surge of moisture coming in from the southwest that sparked up lightning strikes across southern sierra yesterday afternoon. we'll see if it happens again today but haven't had a lot of rain looking towards lake county. a lot of smoke in those areas. we are sharing our weather pictures so that everyone knows what it looks like across the bay area where you live. >> we are going from the low 90s. we'll bring it back down for saturday and sunday. san francisco no changes here. >> look at the bay area maps.

let's take you to the bay bridge. chp reporting issues along that area. east of the toll plaza there is an earlier crash. you can see slowing there. on the eastbound side at treasure island there is what appears to be a limo. chp reporting what appears to be a taxi at the same exact spot. i don't know what's going on at treasure island. definitely try to take extra time today. one of those lanes being blocked out by two out on the road. bay bridge about 12 minutes. there is a high wind advisory. westbound 85 about ten minutes. back to you. >> thank you.

napa family who says their earthquake insurance -- left them on shaky ground. consumer investigator chris chmura took a look at this case for us. chris has talked about earthquake insurance before. people in concord a welcome back. chris talked about earthquake insurance before. >> yeah. we have. all earthquake policies add minu ministered by the california earthquake authority. the napa earthquake destroyed his home in 2014. they were confident it woulgd cover the cost of rebuilding. he says they were still shorting him about 18,000 dlarsz.

good morning and thank you for joining us. i )m laura garcia. and i let's take a live look outside. thanks for joining us. >> marcus has the day off. let's get your wednesday started right. a check of your weather. >> yeah. we start out this morning nice and cool. mostly clear skies for the inland areas. still the fog for the coast. here is a live look outside. i'm showing this shot because we are still looking at the drifts of smoke moving by because of

northern fires. we are looking live right now. let's head over to evergreen. it is 61 degrees heating up into the mid-80s. we are half way through the week. we'll look ahead to the weekend coming up in about seven minutes. we have a look at the commute. >> it is 6:30. no surprise we are starting to see issues in the east bay. it is typically one of the hotter spots. i want to take you right to one of the accidents. a lane being blocked along southbound 880. there was a crash earlier and now you can see the heavy delays. so far we have seen our speed sensors really slow down from green to yellow to red.

there was a crash earlier that was blocking lanes. they are working to clear that out. i'm happy to report that the stalled vehicle along the eastbound side right at pressure island has been cleared out. back do you. >> thank you. >> this is video we shot not even an hour ago. overnight more homes burned as fair fighters try to continue to control the fast moving flames. here is the latest numbers. the fire currently at more than 80,000 acres. that's four times the size of concord. we just got an update that says the fire is 12% contained right now. we don't know how many homes

burned overnight. thousands more are in the flame's path this morning. we have been bringing live reports from the fire zones all week. he is live in lake port to show us what's happening there. the last hour there were flare ups happening behind you. still a lot of smoke in the air. >> yeah. that's right. the biggest battle for firefighters is there. it is so close to this home. firefighters have really been working to try to protect as many homes as possible. you can see the smoke smoldering. this is lake port near highway 29. the fire really kicked up last night. she says the fire jumped the containment line and began to set fires to homes at unincorporated lake port. the complex fire is made up of two fires. the ranch fire and the river fire which is close.

they say the fire picked up along with the clang in wind. she says the winds shifted from the west to a more hot and dry wind blowing north which only added to an already hot day. just to give you an idea how destructive the fires have been here is a look from earlier this morning. it shows you a before and after picture of this multi-million dollars home that was destroyed last night in the fire. we are also told at one point upwards of 19,000 people have been evacuated but as of yesterday some people were finally allowed to go home. others never even left. >> we don't leave. we won't. we'll be fine. we'll be okay. we always are. >> power crews have been working overnight. heading into today the priority will be to reenforce the containment line. firefighters are being brought

in from florida and tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the high school there will be a town hall meeting. they will be out to answer questions and give an update on the fire. today in the bay. >> thank you. another fire burning. evacuations underway for the so called eel fire. this is burning to the east. now, a little bit more than a hundred miles of where he was reporting. right now burned a little more than 900 acres. we are posting realtime up dates on nbcbayarea.com. new this morning dozens of south bay families are cramabling to find schools for their kids. >> the charter school says it is not going to open. we are looking into this with chris.

he pleaded not guilty last month in the so called ride share rapist case. he waited outside bars and targeted women looking for their ride share vehicles. he is accused in at least four sexual asoughts. 6:37 hoping to improve public transportation. this is based on the coast side transit study. it gives guidelines for improvement like adding more trips. that line goes on the coast to daily city park. long term plans include extentding all the way down to half-moon bay. hoping to revitalize downtown. it is something many don't realize exist but it does. this is the area we are talking about. this is a map downtown along dub lib between highway 680. they are hoping to create more

vibrant downtown. you can hear more tonight at 6:00 at city hall. >> it the part of the morning commute. we have some pretty hef savy delays. the south bay very typical morning slowing. let's check out 880. there is not one but two earlier crashes. one was blocking the lanes. that cleared out and we have possible debris that is blocking some of the lanes along fremont boulevard. i want to show you how heavy delays are. they are backed up passing 92 connector. head out and take surface streets and avoid that section of it all together. i want to give you an update. it has gotten a lot better. metering lights are still on. we are seeing delays from an earlier crash that happened east of the toll plaza. i want to show you east bay drive times. i have noticed slowing where that crash was southbound from 238 to highway 84.

from the heater to the air-conditioning. temperatures reaching into the upper 80s. if you're heading out far jog this morning in san jose it is nice and cool. it will be in the mid-60s by 9:00. our temperature trend goes up but it stays comfortable for today. still very warm in walnut creek with our 10:00 temp at 70 degrees. lunchtime at 78 and going through the afternoon reaching the upper 80s there. they are cooler than we have had recently. it is up to 90 in concord. expect a high to reach about 64 degrees. we have had a surge across the state. it triggered a few lightning strikes across the southern sierra. there the humidity will be high. that's what we'll be watching but we continue on with our weather with a steady weather pattern across the bay area.
