danger, unfortunately, increasing across northern california. coming up now for a first check of your friday-like commute. >> it is with the exception of the tri valley. typical hot spot sparking up a little bit of trouble. south bay is looking good. i did see this accident pop up in the tri valley as i was making my way out here. let's get you to two accidents along 580. the first is along the eastbound side. this is along grant line road. the right-hand shoulder is blocked. it is causing some delays on our speed censors there. we've got a lot of yellow and red. side,he bender. see a few right now, not giving too many details and i haven't seen any swellings. hopefully that isn't a major accident we have to worry bay plaza, even we've already got a nice little backup going on here. i don't think the metering lights is on yet, but this

typically happens for 20 minutes and then clears out. we've got the latest on the wildfire battle across california. more evacuations ordered as flames move east towards clear lake. so far, 125,000 acres have burned. 39% contained. >> we were in lake county overnight as firefighters were struggling to beat those wildfires. >> reporter: flames reached high into the night sky unfettered by any airdrops because planes and helicopters don't fly at night. fire trucks took up positions near just about every home for several miles. this is the river fire. throughout the afternoon we watched as crewed threw everything they had at this fire. one of the biggest assets they brought in is the jumbo jet fire retarder. >> this fire has been challenging since day one.

due to the dryness of our fuels as well as the weather conditions. it seems that every afternoon we're getting challenged hard by this inferno. >> reporter: crews did everything possible to protect several homes, but this fire continued to move east toward clear lake. we talked with one man who worked his land with the tractor even as the fire advanced. the fire was burning just over the ridge from his house. >> i'm trying to get some of this dry grass around from the barn. >> reporter: he had his fire gear nearby if he needed to leave quickly. >> there are new concerns in shasta county this morning. the carr fire is there. high temperatures, windy weather could fuel the flames again today. the fire has mis and destr thousand homes. that's just 37% contained. our other top story this morning, later today family and friends will say good bye to this young woman,

nia wilson. her life was cut short in oakland last week. her killing walked an entire community. people say they want to remember her in a different way. they call themselves #wecare. they're putting themselves on various b.a.r.t. stations trying to help riders feel safer while walking to and from their cars. >> most people say we should be proactive instead of reactive. >> the group has been volunteering their time at the movement coming up on saturday. 4:34. new developments on a murder investigation in concord. police released this image tied to the crime. they say terence boyd dixson killed a 64-year-old a week ago at the victim's home on pine creek way. police say they don't have a motive for the killing. the victim's car was also

stolen. here's a picture of it, it's a 2013 hyundai velocitor. a break in the case, menlo park police say they have the man responsible for a stabbing off willow road last month. this is video of the scene on july 3rd. police say the man walked up to the victimho fily of a missing stud reward will help to bring her home. she hasn't been seen since she went for a jog in brooklyn, iowa. her family announced the reward is $172,000. they think she may have been abducted. >> i've been telling all of you, if you have nothing to hide, you

good morning, i'm contessa brewer. here are headlines. wall street futures are slightly in the green this morning waiting for a big economic report later this morning. the july jobs report is expected to show companies kept a strong pace of hiring. it suggests the economy is helping the market. the market was mostly higher yesterday. the nasdaq, powered by apple. it topped a trillion dollars in market value. you probably already knew that. apple stock has risen 9% since reporting earnings tuesday. the dow slipped seven points to 25,326. the nasdaq was up 95.

activision blizzard is in talks with several crowd computing providers to offer streaming games. the three largest cloud service providers in the u.s. are amazon, microsoft and google. and all three are also involved with video games themselves. cloud gaming is still in the early stages. activision's rival has unveiled a demo. airstream is bringing smart technology to its iconic rvs. owners will be able to use a smartphone app to adjust the lights, temperature, awning, monitor the battery and propane tank levels and even find their rv if they've misplaced it. the app gives them access to airstream customer service, roadside assistance and the owner's manual. or otherwise, it runs your life. >> i want to know if it empties its own potty. that would be high tech. >> that would, indeed.

you're with us. >> somebody seems to be happy about this wedding, even though they probably got a little too close. closer than they were supposed to. the photo getting shared on a lot of social media right now. he could have at least showed his cute side. >> i hope it's their dog. >> they're getting married last weekend in montana and their dog is over the moon. or he gave up at having his back scratched. come can we wrap this up? let's check your weather and traffic as we get out on this friday, starting with rob. >> and san francisco had some low clouds. cool temperatures there. inland, things starting to warm up as we get through the afternoon. san jose, mostly clear, 62 degrees starting off with less low clouds than we saw at the same time yesterday morning. there you see san francisco, 54. not much of a warmup here. inland, valley starting to see those temperatures climb later on today into the upper 80s and

low 90s. livemore, 57. a little more smoke starting to drop in from the north bay and east bay as we see winds shift. the bay area air quality management district putting a smoke advisory in place. we'll be watching more smoke pollution droppingrom the fires. red flag warning today through saturday along the carr fire, have to watch out for the gusty north winds. to the south into lake county, 11:00 this morning through saturday at 11:00. gusty dry conditions there in the hilltops. we'll be watching the winds very closely. probably around 3:00 to 5:00 into the afternoon and evening. wind speeds, unfortunately, on the increase to our north. look at our temperatures today. inland, beginning to see the 90s making a comeback from concord. not much change from san francisco to oakland. 60s and 70s bay side and those temperatures around morgan hill into the 90s. for the weekend, just a slight

cooldown on sunday. the sea breeze will pick up a little bit, dropping our inland temperatures into the 80s. unfortunately, monday through wednesday, we're going to see high pressure strengthen. take that marine air and squish it down to the coast. our valley temperatures could be back in triple digits as we get towards next tuesday and wednesday. the weekend weather doesn't look too bad. we'll see temperatures trending a little bit more mild around san francisco. you'll see valley temperatures cooling slightly, but then rebounding big time getting towards tuesday and wednesday. high fire danger in that seven day forecast. i've started a couple of issues on the roads. the reason for it? i'm not quite sure. it looks like people are off to a busy start this morning. i did see this pop up on the san mateo bridge. i have to look into that. i guess i spoke too soon. this is along northbound 680.

it two lanes are blocked. you can already see speed censors picking up a little bit of slowing on both of those sides with the yellowing there. they're working to clear that off to the shoulder. we do have another crash. this one is blocking one of the shoulders. this is along westbound 580 at santa clara avenue. it's not picking up any major slowing, but if they don't clear that out we'll definitely start to see some slowing. i do have good news. an earlier crash did clear out already. this is along eastbound 580. there was a bit of a lane blocked, kind of along the right-hand shoulder. that cleared out but residual delays there. we have a crash along westbound 580 at flynn road and that hasn't cleared out just yet. a live picture right now in san jose. i'm going to check on that crash that just popped up and i'll have an update coming up in just a bit. thank you very much. spilling secrets.

former white house press secretary sean spicer revealed some of the inner workings of the trump administration during an appearance in san francisco last night. he told the commonwealth club crowd that working for president trump is not like working with previous presidents. president trump controls the messaging in the press briefing room he said. >> run it by me and say this is what your team suggests, what do you think? but he, in particular, really cared about the exact words and phrases that were used. >> spicer says delivering the president's views was not always easy and there are always days he would like to do over. he revealed melania trump is th civil and listening. he seemed surprised by the warm reception. there was one protester outside the event. happening tomorrow, the first of two days of b.a.r.t.

closures. major repairs will be done on the rails. buses are going to connect passengers from west oakland to each station. there will be two special event trains from san francisco serving as fans headed to the colosseum. this is the first of several weekends of similar closures between now and the end of september. the first of two benefit events year's north bay firestorm. it will benefit a relief fund. tonight's event includes storytelling by fire survivors. tomorrow night it's an acoustic event. each event gets underway at 7:30 at the sonoma state green music center. 4:50. to a case the nation is talking about, the teen accused of shooting up marjorie stoneman douglas high school will be in

court. he will face a judge for hearing about his constitutional rights. prosecutors will focus on whether or not the release of cruz's education file is a violation of his rights to a fair trial. he is accused of killing 17 students and staff in ck florida. a south bayus it seems so legedat that other people will get scammed. the owner of aborn pharmacy said a man called and told him he was going to shut off his power. he grabbed cash and walked across the street to convert it into a cash gift card. >> i said this sounds fishy. >> it was a scam. pg&e says it will never call or

show up at your home or business to request immediate payment. if you're past due, you'll get a letter. if you're not sure who is calling you, do what he did, hang up and call the utility. scammers are now using technology to trick customers and caller ids into thi nkg it's tir number. >> let's point out pg&e is never going to ask for a gift card. i've had the irs the same thing, they don't deal in gift cards. they got the run around, then they came to us for help. nbc bay area responds, next. first, happening now, breaking news out of afghanistan. there are reports 25 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a mosque. dozens more are injured. this is in the eastern part of the country. officials say the mosque was filled with worshippers at the time of the attack.

weekend forecast minutes away. remember earlier in my other report i said an accident had popped up along what looked like the san mateo bridge? i have an update on what that is. it's more of a traffic hazard. unfortunately, it looks along the west side of the bridge there's a bum road. somebody lost a bumper. let me tell you, i can not only relate to this on a spiritual level, but this happened to me when i was in college. i had to get off the road and tape my bumper back up. let's hope your day
