good morning and thank you for joining us. i )m kris sanches in for laura garcia. and i )m marcus washington. toss to vianey with traffic. rjs good morning. i'm kris. >> and i'm marcus. what are we seeing? >> i'm seeing a few back-ups near the bay bridge. they are reporting what happened to a shooting that turned into a multi-vehicle accident that involved three vehicles total. they are reporting that one lane does remain open. my speed sensors are picking up yellow now. originally it was completely solid red. i'm starting to see what looks to be some slight clearing. chp is saying there's no estimated time on them. now, we did have live pictures

earlier. pete was there. he is still there now. you can see this is what it looked like earlier. complete standstill. people were getting out of their vehicles at one point and chp reported they were telling people to completely their vehicles. i'll send it back to you. >> all right. thanks. a lot of people out there will notice it's a lot cooler this morning. >> we do still have the fog. it will be cool. inland will heat up again. the same weather pattern continues as we take a live look outside as you get ready to step out the door. one other problem will be the air quality. we have drips of smoke coming by. you will see that smoke as we go through the morning and the afternoon with wild fires across northern california. it is good if you can catch public transit if you're on your

way out the door. it will be at about 60 degrees for the next couple of hours. you may need a light jacket but definitely not this afternoon. we are already at 85 degrees. we'll take a look at what's ahead as temperatures get even hotter as the week goes along. that's coming up in a few minutes. >> all right. thanks. pete is live on the bay bridge this morning where that shooting investigation is happening. we knew one person died but now we know another person was also hit by that gunfire. >> good morning. we are getting a lot of new information. i'll give our viewers a time line of it in just a moment. we want to talk about the traffic backup behind me. the cars are starting to move a little bit. they keep stopping ton eastbound side following that shooting near the treasure island. they are stopping because it is a homicide investigation taking

place little ways down the freeway. we know this involved three cars. you had an suv carrying the victim and a sedan. the driver of the sedan heard five gunshots, called 911 and then at that point the victim car, the suv car swerves and collides with the sedan. the male driver was pronounced dead. there were two passengers in the suv. one hit by gunfire and the other being treated. that other passenger was injured in the crash itself. the suspect car i mentioned did get away. police are still looking for the suspect. we are showing you guys this back-up as they are dealing with the morning commute. we spoke to a person that was heading on his way home.

plane took off. what are we learning about the victims other than the fact that we know they are from the east bay? >> reporter: good morning to you. we know all five people yesterday morning either worked for the real estate company or were family members of those people with the company. the orange county coroner's office has identified the five victims. you can see them on your tv screen. it's not clear who was bethiend corrals when it crashed. it nose dived and crashed onto a car in santa san that outside of

los angeles. the driver was inside and was not hurt. all five victims died at the scene. the plane debarted buchanan field yesterday afternoon. about two hours into the flight the pilot reported an emergency shortly after receiving clearance for landing on john waen airport. we know the plane was built in 1973 and the owner had put it up for sale. we learned a little bit about one of the victims. coworkers say she was a delightful and positive real estate agent. the ceo says life is precious and right now his company is focusing on comforting the families of those killed in yesterday's accident. today in the bay. >> all right. thank you, bob. the president is also taking

some tweeting. >> he said california wild fires are made so much worse by bad environmental laws. you can also stop to -- including controlled burns and clearing death from forests. >> let's get you caught up. that fire is entering the 15th day in shasta county. more than 60,000 acres destroying more than a thousand homes. right now about 43% contained. pg and e mourning the loss of one of its own workers. 21-year-old was an apprentice lineman. he died trying to restore power

in what's called dangerous terrain. it's not clear how he died. we do know he is the 7th person killed in the car fires. a plan to reopen yosemite again on hold. they made the decision to extend current closure indeaf fit nitly because of the massive ferguson fire burning near. the air quality there is terrible. there was hope for reonning today. the ferguson fire has been burning since july 13th. the containment is at 35%. parts of the country will be sizzling today. >> if you're heading to las vegas it will be hotter than usual. temperatures expected to reach 114 degrees today. national weather service issued

outside let's go to eastbound jose to evergreen we are getting waed di for national night out for tomorrow night. looking at upper 80s by tomorrow parch. micro climate up to 92 today. morgan hill 95 degrees and 87 here. oakland today 75 and 92. also looking at low 90s for the tri-valley. it is 70 in the mission district. sonoma up to 92 degrees. look at temperatures from the mid-90s today which will be hot to possibly dangerous heat. it looks like the way the atmosphere will be set up compressing all of this heat into the valleys and keeping us in with stagnant air we may have air quality issues. high ozone levels.

san francisco keeps that ocean breeze. we keep temperatures cool in the upper 60s to low 70s. we have an update trying to get across the bay bridge. >> it will be a headache at least for those heading eastbound. we are doing okay. we haven't seen any major accidents. in the east bay if you're trying to drive into san francisco it is a typical morning photo. we are following that investigation of that shooting. it is along the eastbound lanes. we are getting reports that run lane is now open. this is what it looks like out there. judging by this it looks like we are seeing a pretty complete standstill. i want to tell you ways to get around the mess. if you're looking for something to avoid we'll go from south san francisco you're looking at about two and a half hours. your best bet if you download our waze app is go down

>> good morning. how are we looking at for traffic? >> heavy delays on the bay bridge. it is an absolute nightmare. if you're heading in from the east bay from san francisco your best bet is the san mateo bridge. we are live on the scene. pete, how is the traffic looking now? i see you're outside of your life truck right now. still nothing, right? >> look. it is still a back up here on

the eastbound side of the bay bridge. the homicide investigation is taking place. there is a shooting just past the treasure island exit. as we gave our viewers information we are piecing all of this together on exactly what happened. they are saying it involved three cars yet an suv carrying the victim, an unknown suspect car and a sedan. it kills the driver and injures two others in that car they swerve and hit the sedan which doesn't appear to be involved in the shooting. the driver is who called 911. the suspect in all of this was able to get away. police were looking for them at this point. as you're looking at this you're seeing the cars are stuck here in gridlock. it is specifically about the safety when he hears about something like this on the

we start out with mostly clear skies. in the low 60s. it will heat up once again. our hot weather for the inland areas continue as we are heading up to 90 in san jose. it is 92 in santa rosa and our heat gets even more intense as we head towards the middle of the week. we'll have more coming up. >> all right. looking forward to that. right now we are breaking news for you right now out of the north bay. police are investigating the shooting by officers that kritly injured a man. it happened near market street. police say that officers tried to negotiate for 30 minutes. when he came at them they fired nonlethal rounds that did not work. >> firefighters say they are

eastbound side and westbound side. i want to show you some ways to get around your traffic collisions this morning. we have a couple of things going on here. let's talk about ways to get around this mess ton bay bridge right now. your best bet to get around this will be ton san mateo bridge. if you drive down 101 and take the san mateo bridge it will be the best way to avoid all of this mess. you're stuck in traffic for at least two and a half hours. >> that is wild. it will be a really rough day f for a lot of folks. >> you should come back from vacation. >> the weekend is always a friend. >> it is. >> it is always within view. even on this monday we talk about our weekends and we get ready to head out the door. it will be in the mid-90s heading throughout the week. as we look at our inland

mike traffic tease good morning. 85 by this afternoon. ville i'll have a look at the rest of the day coming up in about five minutes. we are flying overhead at a crash involving a deadly shooting along the bay bridge. we have another on treasure island. that is slowing things down. i'll have an update coming up. i'll have alternate routes coming up. it is 5:42 now. developing in indonesia. you can see the video on your screen. you can see bird cages swinging from the ceiling. a panic in the streets after that quake. many survivors evacuated to local beaches with hopes of being picked up.

authorities say the number of dead is certain to increase. today marked 73 years since the dawn of the nuclear age. a somber ceremony where the first nuclear bomb exploded near the end of world war ii. on august 6th, 1945 this happened. the u.s. dropped the first atomic bomb. a second bomb would fall on another area. combined more than 200,000 people died. later this morning a rally and march being planned outside of the lab. he is expected to attend. a live look now at the airport in san jose. that is where starting today new facial recognition technology could cut down on wait times. not everybody is happy about how

it is happening. it is a screening system and requires all international travele travelers to have their photo taken. it is then analyzed against your passport and visa and eliminates the need for scanning things minimally. >> the thing is i think now is too much. you have to scan your passports and whatever. >> once the passenger is matched then they can board their flight. those entering the u.s. will also have to give their fingerprints. airports using the program say passengers are saving upwards of 15 minutes. state republican leaders say there's enough opposition to fuel a successful gas tax repeal this fall. voters will decide a ballot measure to strike down on the gas tax.

meeting done all of the time in politics. now, it's not. but let's set that aside far minute. what's notable is the president is now admitting to it. the time line, the russian meeting takes place in june of 2016. americans don't learn about it until a new york times article and that's when donald trump dictate add memo explaining the meeting was about adoption law. the next day his own son tweets out copies of e-mails showing it was about getting dird on hillary clinton. until this weekend we have never seen the president be so straightforward and he knew what the meeting was about. that tweet acknowledges he wasn't telling the truth about it. he puts out trump routinely admits or acknowledging things that might require hard fought testimony as he did with the motive on the trump tower

for some of these spots that will be hotter today you want to make sewer yure you go early. we start out with upper 60s between 6:00 and 7:00. you'll want to get throughout and go far run. at 10:00 it is 76 degrees. you'll want to take it easy and go to the gym. antioch reaching 90 in san jose. it will be slightly hotter today than it was yesterday. it is 75 in oakland and low 90s for parts of the north bachy. another day for maybe a sleeveless shirt or shorts and something to keep you cool as temperatures stay hot. if you have travel plans to hawaii heads up, we have category 4 hurricane hector over the open pacific. look at the track over the next few days.

it heads closer south of the big island. this will be something we'll have to keep an eye on. possibility of a major hurricane passing south of hawaii over the next few days. as we look at our temperatures here in the bay area inland we are going to see those temperatures reaching into the upper 90s. and for the weekend it is 92 degrees. how is it looking out there for the commute? >> it is off along the bay bridge chl bridge. we have several issues. a deadly shooting investigation and we have a reporter on the scene that says one of the lanes is open. we are still seeing heavy delays and bumper to bumper traffic. there is a traffic near treasure island involving a big rig versus a sedan. it is causing one of those lanes to be blocked. you can see how heavy delays

are. drive times you're looking at about 27 minutes. we do have our very own sky ranger overhead showing us the mess. it has zoomed into the police activity. you can see it looks like no lanes are open. the traffic at a complete standstill. it doesn't look like they are letting any cars go by. they have a complete investigation. a deadly vehicle involving three vehicles. on the westbound side we have got that crash near fremont. it is causing delays now. your best bet will be avoid it and take the san mateo bridge if you can. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. coming up, a bay area tech company is moving. roku is getting new offices. first happening now a developing story. more than 700 firefighters battling the forest fire. 24 people were injured and some

during a shooting saturday and sunday. the youngest victim who died was an 11-year-old. police say the shootings are not due to lack of resources. they say officers working the music festival would have been off during their regular weekend. later this morning a search and rescue continues. a plane crashed high atop a ridge on saturday. five people were on board that plane. they say that flight took off saturday evening and it was one of many flying in the area at the time. they suspended the search until today because the weather was so bad on sunday. new details on the volcano erupting in hawaii. it's not clear if this is a sign that the volcano is slowing

down. they say it's common for it to stop before suddenly restarting. mid-year forecast finds 63% of employers plan to hire full time permanent workers in the second half of this year. that is up from last year. nearly half of employers plan to increase starting salaries as well. most will raise wages for current employees also. career builders say hot areas include customer service, sales, i.t. and product development. how will the so called trade war impact how much you pay at the grocery store. they say a range of items could be at risk of price changes with some going upened some going down. those in an aluminum can are expected to increase slightly
