good morning and thank you we are looking live at sam jose. thanks so much for joining us. i'm marcus washington. we want to get your started with your day. before questiwe get to traffic t to get to kari. >> it will be a warm one you'll probably take the kids to national night out. it is going to reach into the upper 80s today and then at 6:00 we are at 82 degrees. it will be a cool event all around the bay area. neighborhoods participating. in dublin start out at 63. it will be hot today reaching into the low 90s. here is a look at high

temperatures. 98 in antioch today. san francisco upper 60s there. we'll take a look at micro climates coming up. so far so good especially compared to yesterday. >> definitely. we have seen a nice trend of quiet roads out there. we are not even seeing any slowing this morning. not bad for a tuesday. it does start getting busier around that 5:30 hour. i want to show you a quick look because these start to kind of add up. let's go to it. this is 580 to 680. so far it is one of your hot spot commutes. this is to westbound 84. not too shabby out there. back to you. >> thanks. breaking news ton the peninsula.

one of four photographers has been talking to investigators for the past hour. actually about 90 minutes or so. >> bob, what can you tell us about that fire this morning? >> good morning. you can see north county fire authority ton 200 block of bay bridge drive. you can see the damage to the front of this home. the reason we are out here is the fire department believes this fire is suspicious. it started on the front porch. you can see it start today go vertical up the front of the house. fortunately there are sprinklers inside. once the heat and flames got to the window up the top there it activated the sprinklers and kept the fire from intruding. there were people inside. they were able to get out. they are okay. fire department not sure what caused the fire, if somebody intentionally did something or

if something else happened but they believe it started around 3:15 in the morning. they are trying to figure out what caused this. today in the bay. >> all right. thanks so much for the update there. all right. 5:03 now. if you happen to notice tighter security on your bart ride there is a reason for that. they are putting officers to work ten days a week and ten hours a day. there are violent incidents. along with beefing up patrol bart's general manager asking to approve a $20 million safety and security action plan. it would include adding platform call boxes, raising the height of the fair gate. while homeless advocates say it is unfairly targets poor people others welcome the change. >> just because someone is for it doesn't mean they pose any kind of risk besides making

people feel uncomfortable. i'm all for it. i know several people that are scared. >> it will be considered by the bart board at the meeting on thursday. 5:04 for you right now. here is new video just in. firefighters on the front lines of the biggest fire in the state's history. it is happening to the north as the wild fire rages on. california leaders will come up with a new plan. all of this comes as the fires continue to break records. here is the latest at this hour. combined 283,000 acres are burned and as of late last night the complex fire is 30% contained. 75 homes have been destroyed. school leaders are putting off the start of a school year. >> we really can't do a lot until we are sure ash and smoke are going to leave.

>> i walked out and i was like oh, it started snowing again. everybody's car. you it's everywhere. >> they say that the district is trying to figure out how many students and teachers have lost homes. thousands of structures are threatened right now. we are also getting a unique look at the demonstration of the car fire in the reading area. this is 360 degree view. more than 360,000 acres are scorched. it is only 47% con tand. we also posted these photos on our web site. and while crews from southern california are in the northern california area to help with those fire efforts they have a growing problem of their own. you're looking at the holy fire. it is burning along the orange and river side county line. it broke out yesterday forcing evacuations. so far more than 4,000 acres are burned in santa ana mountains.

the new transbay transit center is gearing up for buses this weekend. the chronical reports commuter buses will start stopping at the transit center starting sunday. four other agencies will also use the center. together they will run hundreds of buses in and out every day. one day the center will also be home to the high speed rail. >> temperatures are warm. morgan hill is what we are seeing elsewhere. as you drive from morgan hill it is going to be 57 degrees at 7:00 and then 72 degrees at 10:00 this morning, but it's really going to be heating up heading into the afternoon. it will be antioch today. if you plan ongoing for a jog make sure you're going out there

very happy tuesday morning to you. the wall street journal said facebook is asking banks to give them information about your financial transactions as a way of further integrating facebook into your life. chase said no way. twitter is the only not to ban alex jones. he was kicked off nearly every other major internet platform except twitter. he says the bans are part of a chinese plot against him. he also showed off on award for his first 1 million subscribers. it wasn't that long ago you tube was praising him for bringing in viewers. he says sandy hook shootings were fake and claims that ta say has a child slave con any on the moon.

apple and spotify removed him. a new report from the insurance constitute from highway safety said that deadly accident would have been avoided if uber hadn't turned the built in safety devices off. it points out the volvo that uber was using was already equipped with safety automatic braking that almost would have seen the person, the police department even if the uber software didn't. none of this stuff is totally brand new. it is one of those things where ironically volvo solved this. the uber didn't stop.

the air quality will suffer as a result of us not having a good ocean breeze. north bay and east bay will get the worst of it. we are also going to see moderate smoke drifting across the peninsula. it will continue until fires are out. as we start out this morning we are seeing mostly clear skies. as you get ready for national night out it is going to be in the mid-80s during the middle of the day and cooling off nicely for tonight. as you make your way out this morning it will be little low 60s. you might need low sleeves. it will feel much more comfortable there. it is going to really heat up. as we get a look at high temperatures for today it is really hot farther to the north. poor air quality, smoke throughout the day and napa expect a high of 90 degrees.

foggy for most of the morning. some clearing into the afternoon and then oakland reaching 73 degrees. antioch in the upper 80s in the south bay and morgan hill up to 96 degrees. let's check out what's happening this morning. that's the hurricane out there in the middle of the pacific. it is a category 4. it has weakened just a bit. over the next couple of days it will be a major hurricane as it passes just south of the big island. keep in mind it is not this small. i think some of the impact will be on wednesday heading into thursday here in the bay area drifts of smoke. our temperatures go up and we are looking at upper 90s as an average. there will be spots over 100 degrees. our cooling doesn't start into early next week. until we get containment on

those wild fires we are still going to have air quality issues, smoke and then also throw in ozone levels as well. san francisco will be nice and cool. you can cool off through most of the forecast. >> i did look up into the little hazard. let's get right to that. chp is reporting what seems to be a small grass fire this is along the northbound 680 side. i'm not seeing any slowing from it. as i work to make sure that is put out safely. you might see a couple of fire trucks that could cause slight delays near that area. that's your morning commute. as far as the rest of the bay area i didn't really see any slowing once something happens along 580 you know we'll see

it )s national night out. po people will get to know each ear a little bit better. >> a police rescued city workers show up and take part as well all needing to boost community safety. there are hundreds of night out events planned for today. san jose will hold a big one. all ten san francisco police districts will hold national night out events. dozens of block parties are in the works. scientists are a step closer to finding out which are at high risk. researchers discovered that genes linked to cancer are aggressive. the risk that the cancer will return is very high. doctors analyzed genetic testing results finding similar genetic

afternoon. we are starting out with comfortable weather in dublin. if you're on your way to the dublin bart station it will be in the upper 50s throughout the morning. it will go from the upper 50s to low 80s by noon. it will be a hot day and drifts of smoke with our high temperatures reaching up to the upper 90s in parts of the tri-valley. in napa today 90. oakland reaches 73 degrees. we'll take a look heading into the weekend in about seven minutes. we have a look at the morning commute. so far you have seen a lot of green sensors. >> a lot of green sensors. it means traffic is moving along smoothly. aside from that though the only thing you might encounter occasionally might be overnight construction. they typically get cleared out by the 6:00 a.m. hour. you know it's getting busy.

looks like the metering lights are officially on. it is starting to get back. back to you. it is nothing compared to what happened for hours. it caused a traffic nightmare. now there are new developments in the deadly shooting. >> we are getting new information on the victim who was killed. today in the bay joining us live near the bay bridge with new information. good morning, pete. >> good morning to you. you have more of your regular traffic here. we are getting some new developments. chp is looking for a suspect in all of this. we know the identity of the man that was killed in yesterday's deadly bay bridge shooting.

darryl stinnette is from mesquite, texas. the description of the vehicle the suspect was in is very vague. all we know is that it because silver or gray vehicle. the shooting appears to be targeted. as far as the shooting, it took place around 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning on the eastbound side of the bay bridge. they say the suspected shooter drove up in a silver or gray car and opened fire on that suv. he died from the gunshots. two other men were in the car as well as suffered injuries. one of them had a gunshot wound to the arm. the suv collided into other cars caught in the cross fire of all of this. no other injuries to report to those drivers in that car if you

have any information call chp. >> all right. thank you very much. an east bay mother and father are pleading for their 14-year-old daughter to come home if she can. they believe she is a run away. her parents aren't so sure because of how she left home. she has been missing since july 30th. her parents say she spent the flight at a friend's house and got a phone call telling her friend not to tell her mom. >> if you see taylor you should contact police.

the search for molly continues. no sign of the university of iowa student with bay area ties. investigators say molly went for a run on july 18th and never returned. her father spoke with fox news an in a news interview he says he is certain molly is still live. >> total speculation on my part. i think that molly is with someone that she knows that is in over their head, that there was some kind of a misunderstanding about the nature of that relationship and at this point they don't know how to get out from under this. they don't know how to resolve this. >> she thinks someone abducted molly and police found her computer, wallet and drivers license all at her boyfriend's house. her iphone, fit bit and ear buds remain missing. the reward to find molly jumped

to $277,000 and a news conference that had been scheduled for today has been cancelled. happening today a man charged with drunk driving is kpp expected in court today. you might remember this. it happened last thanksgiving weekend. he struck a car on i-80 killing four family members. they were all from napa. six other people were also hurt. investigators say lowe kept driving and struck another car. he was eventually caught. 5:36. closing arguments are scheduled today for a case of the bay area man suing manufacturers. wayne johnson is a school grounds keeper. he is claiming round up gave him cancer. the fda has concluded round up probably does not cause cancer.

traffic. we are also seeing that that bit of a grass fire along northbound 680 has the right hand shoulder blocked. they are working to clear that out. they are not sure what's on fire but it's probably the grass along the side. you seen that on occasions. westbound 80 towards the bay bridge about 11 minutes. i think it's starting to slow down. sure enough those metering lights typically come on at about 5:20. a busy start already. back to normal. >> not as bad as yesterday. people think it's a dream come true. >> folks today already thinking about the weekend. we always have a lot of fun over the weekend. that weather isn't going to coop are rate with us. >> we will have a wide range in temperatures across the bay area. let's start with inland valleys. it will be really hot by the middle of the week. you'll be ready to cool off.

cross-examination. a mother's quick thinking helped her family get to safety after a fast-moving fire. it gutted the home. the mother and two young children narrowly escaped. she said she grabbed the kids, got them in the car as fire on both sides of the driveway. she had to divert through one of the fields and go out through a fence. the response from cal-fire was vigorous. in all it burned 13 acres.
