unhealthy. moderate air quality. the bay and the coast is being effected as well as the south bay. here is a look at high temperatures reaching the mid-80s in the south bay. low 90s and mid-90s farther to the north. we'll talk more about all of this coming up in a few minutes. we'll get a look at the morning commute and i'm guessing that drive through the tri-valley is the worst through now. >> it is. surprisingly it is not picking up any speed slowing. it is kind of typical when you look throughout the bay area. everything else is looking good. nothing to talk about there. i want the show you a quick look because there are no metering lights on just yet. just a regular wednesday morning commute. so far no major accidents to report. back to you. this morning a north bay

community is grieving and struggling to understand what happened in a house fire. it killed two teen girls and their mother. >> police are investigating this case as a homicide. we talked with friends and loved ones and got a glimpse at one of the text messages before she died. >> police detectives are trying to achnswer the questions who contribute to pay answers outside their charred home. 14-year-old twins were found dead inside the home sunday morning. their 11-year-old sister escaped and their mother died a short time later. her middle school english teacher can't wrap their mind around the idea that they may have been murdered. >> i cannot fathom how anybody could be responsible for their deaths. >> police ruled their fire suspicious almost immediately.

a neighbor who shot this phone video said she heard a male voice screaming and yelling inside the home. less than an hour before the fire was reported about 2:00 sunday morning she sent this message to her friend asking if she was awake and telling her she was really scared. >> i couldn't respond back because i was sleeping. i felt really bad. >> a text that haunts that friend and others who have heard about it. >> i don't know if she was scared, if it was the flames or someone was in the house. >> friends say the surviving 11-year-old sister is traumatized by what happened and they want justice. >> they need to find whoever did this and may they rest in peace. >> nbc bay area news. >> 4:33 now. wild fire survivors are outraged as they are trying to hammer out a new agreement which

critics say will limit the liability of utilities. they may lose the legal right. happening today at 10:00 this morning a group of opponents is holding a rally to argue that utilities at fault be held accountable. they also hope to meet with state lawmakers as well. police say they are looking into an incident involving an off duty police officer involved in the shooting death of stephon clark. >> i wanted to know if you started planning your wedding before or after you skilled stephon clark. >> you can see an activist walks into a restaurant where an officer involved in the shooting is -- the officer does not respond and a friend tells the activist to leave. prosecutors never filed charges. the case remains in limbo.

new video of an oakland girl wloz disappearance is making national headlines. this is video of molly speaking at a church before her disappearance. she goes to the university of iowa and vanished three weeks ago after a run. this morning her dad who still lives in lafayette says that he thinks his daughter may be with someone that he knows. here is his message to that person. >> if you're with molly now you obviously don't need to hurt her. this has gone far enough. you need to stop now and you need to face the consequences. >> volunteers are still working around the clock hoping their efforts will turn into a promising lead. an end to the search for a missing teen. police say she is okay.

the village is supposed to be sent in downtown san jose. one element involves a housing. mercury news report now has a deal in place for a combined courtyard residence the plan still has several hurdles to clear. and a proposed sales tax increase in the east bay city will not be on the november ballot. last november the city council voted down that proposal to increase the existing sales tax from half a cent to a full cent.

tesla private. he later confirmed saying it is the best way forward for the company. tesla is one of the most shorted. while many question we still remain current shareholders would have the option to cash out or keep their shares in a private investment vehicle. cvs to treat. the video would cost 59 bucks. cvs says insurance service will be available in the coming months. it will be available in any hour of the day or night. the service will be available in arizona, california, florida, maine and washington d.c. and will expand by the end of the year. >> thank you very much.

>> today will be another warm one in some areas. what can we expect today? >> a lot of smoke today. poor air quality. we are not oj going to have drifts of smoke but high ozone levels. it will start out with temperatures in the low 60s. we'll be at 82 degrees at 2:00 today. we'll take a look at the air quality coming up next. and here is is a live look at golden gate bridge. not a lot of cars out there. we are starting to see slow spots in the bay area. i'll take you through those drive times coming up in just a bit. -emeryville

quality today. as we take a look at temperatures it will be hot again this afternoon and the next couple of days. looking at palo alto we'll be at 59 degrees at 8:00. continuing to make it into the low 80s. maybe heading up 101. it will be 55 degrees as you head out the door. we will get hazy sunshine throughout the day. at noontime we are at 81 degrees. it will be heating up. let's go to concord and check out temperatures there. low 60s at 8:00. at lunchtime 77 degrees. it will heat up fast today. concord will reach up to 92. it is 85 in san jose. actually what we are seeing happening here is a thick layer of smoke keeping our temperatures down. we'll only make it up to 84 in

napa and santa rosa. it is 94 today, cool temperatures along the coast. it is a day you to stay comfortable and cool. as we check out what's happening out there in the pacific look at this. category 4 hurricane now weakened to a category 3. it is to the south of hawaii. it will continue on as a major hurricane. current wind speeds at 125 miles per hour. i'm keeping an eye on that and also our dangerous heat and poor air quality across the bay area. high temperatures reaching into the mid-90s. it is 96 degrees. looks like there could be a little bit of relief next week not changing too much. we will see a little bit less of clouds and fog on friday and then it returns for the weekend. any issues on the road this morning? >> i don't mind it at although.

kari is keeping an eye ton weather. i haven't seen any major slowing. there is slowing. i said it earlier in some spots. i kind of noticed this. they are not reporting any hazards or road crashes. maybe chp will be reporting something in the next couple minutes. as far as your san jose drive a smooth commute. southbound and northbound looking good. this is westbound 80 about 8 minutes and westbound 92 it is 12 minutes westbound 84 only nine minutes. i'll have another update coming up in just a bit. back to you. >> thank you. from highway 84 to highway 85. a study aimed at making your commute less stressful is moving forward. vta accepting a $1.2 million

loan from the transportation commission. it will be used to examine the gridlock from mountain view to san jose. money from that was approved back in 2016. the funding is tied up by a lawsuit. gas prices are dropping at the pump. i noticed that just yesterday. average gas prices falling after reaching their highest point of the year. the state average is $3.62 a gallon. it is down 11 cents in the last couple of months. the average price is $3.68. some of the lowest prices are where a gallon is $3.58. $4.49. we are talking about the lines, wait times still long despite offices opening on saturdays. lawmakers are demanding change. a special hearing called bay san francisco assemblyman.

one question is what happened to $16 million gufren $16 million given to the dmv. the dmv says it has hired 500 f new workers. it is extending the operating hours. a follow up for you on another violent crime. u.s. marshals arrested espinoza saturday. officials add that he is homeless and did not know the people he attacked. that attack happened 12 days after she was stabbed to death. jane fonda is pushing the me too movement on capitol hill. it would protect people who are harassed at work.

the bill would ban employers from making job applicants or new hires sign away their rights to file harassment claims. she says she will ask governor brown to sign that legislation. >> he needs to sign this legislation. some people in sonoma county want to put a cork in new wineries. locals think that winery events have gotten out of hand. about a thousand people sign add petition. it calls for a moratorium on any expansion plans until regulations are put in place.
