valley as our temperatures will be slightly hotter racing to the lower 90s by 2:00 this afternoon. we'll look at all of our microclimates and the hot weather ahead for today as we head over to veianey who has an early look at the commute. >> an early issue along highway 17. when something happens along highway 17, it gets rough. it isn't through the passage of the mountains. it's right before that. we're seeing this northbound 17. this is by hamilton avenue. it appears there's a lane blocked. a solo spin-out. there might be debris in a couple other lanes. that could cause slowing there. this just recently happened so we haven't seen the speed sensors pick up slowing but that's something to keep in mind. a live look right now in the south bay 101, looking good thi. >> thank you very much. 4:31 now, and new this morning, the andrade on-ramp on northbound 680 is open again after a crash last night involving a tanker truck.

the chp said the truck took the turn too fast. the driver was injured in the crash. because the truck spilled oil, the cleanup went into the early morning hours. the crews just cleared the scene about 30 minutes ago. >> keeping you safe on b.a.r.t. today, b.a.r.t. transit leaders are expected to address the safety concerns. this comes after a string of violence on the trains. >> we're live at the warm springs b.a.r.t. station with a new plan. >> good morning to you. what b.a.r.t. wants to do is increase the number of days it police officers work from five days to six days a week. riders we spoke with seem to be onboard with this plan, especially after the recent murder of 18-year-old nia wilson who was stabbed to death at the mcarthur b.a.r.t. stath, buzz the officers themselves are worried about being overworked, that this proposed six-day work week would be unsustainable. b.a.r.t. said it would be

temporary. we reached out to the bay area council. they believe that more needs to be done to make b.a.r.t. safer, that the transit agency has should consider hem from other agencies. >> we're asking b.a.r.t. and b.a.r.t. police and local communities, police chiefs, sheriffs, to come together and have a conversation about what might be possible. >> nbc bay area has not yet heard back from the union who represents b.a.r.t. police officers. the b.a.r.t. board will discuss its new safety and security plan at its meeting later this morning. separately, and unrelated, the board also expected to discuss whether or not to end its teenage student discount program. reporting in fremaund by the warm springs b.a.r.t. station, an elderly man. one of the suspects is the son of the union city police chief. police say -y

while he was taking his morning walk. video is really hard to watch. the other suspect in the case is unidentified 16-year-old. this morning, the victim's family is speaking with us, saying they believe this attack was a hate crime. >> he grabbed the money, but he don't have money. that is a hate crime. >> union city's chief released an open letter to the public saying in part, words can barely describe how embarrassed, dejected, and hurt my wife and daughters feel right now. violence and hatred is not what we have taught our children. intolerance for others is not even in our years after the first made national headlines, brock turner's case is back the ford swimmer's appeal yesterday. his attorney argued there wasn't enough evidence to support his sexual assault conviction. the attorney says that turner only engaged in

describes as, quote, sexual outercourse, and that did not involve the intent to commit rape. the judge sentenced turner to only six months in jail after he was convicted of assaulting an unconscious woman on the campus. >> chilling details in a disturbing story out of mexico. 11 children, i should say, new mexico. 11 children found living inside a filthy compound were being taught how to kill. five adults were arrested at the compound outside of santae 15 were found emaciated and living in deplorable conditions. we're learning that court documents reveal the children were trained to commit school shootings. a gun range and a stockpile of loaded firearms were found at the compound. but the father of one suspect believes they just wanted to protect themselves. >> all they wanted to do is get out of society, get away. a pea

themselves. >> here's another layer to the story. there were human remains on the compound, and they're being identified to see if they belong to the son of the suspect, a severely disabled boy who was missing in december. >> right now, firefighters in west marin county are keeping an eye on an area that went up in flames yesterday. the crews responded quickly on the ground and from the air. that fire, dubbed the bridge fire, started along point reyes petaluma road. now, this was contained on a steep hillside, butre pere read get out. >> we have a trailer on standby and a driver. and so hopefully there will be no traffic and that's another issue when an emergency like this happens. you hope there's not traffic and you can get through. >> that fire burned about 45 acres. the cause is under investig>>n. coming up next on

straight day. its longest winning streak since march. helped by gained from amazon and facebook. the market slipped following the unveiling of new chinese tariffs on u.s. goos. look for reports on filing for unemployment and producer price inflation. the dow fell 45 points yesterday. the nasdaq rising 4 to 7883. >> meanwhile, ur $4.99 flat dely fee in favor of a charge based on distance. these will obviously be cheaper the closer you are to the restaurant. uber's booking fees now range from $2 to $8, and a sliding fee for customers on how they want to pay. uber eats had been known to be slightly more expensive versus other delivery apps like seamless and grubhub. >> and renting out an ancient cultural site ota hotel may not have been the best idea. an airbnb found out after a

good morning to you. looking live at the bay bridge this morning. you can see the clouds there in the distance. some of us are going to see haze where we live. but we'll talk about the forecast in just a few minutes. >> all right, take a look at this. crazy video, this is not from a movie but this isl life here. this is not northern california. we talk about the fires there, but this is actually in england. those fire crews filmed this phenom d plastic factory. the fire department posted this video on facebook and explained that that fire would occur when cool air enters the top of the hot air causing that swirl similar to how a tornado is formed. no injuries were reported during this black smoke. but it could be seen, you know, from miles away. look at that. >> i have never seen one like that that looks like a thin, tiny column. >> so narrow. >> usually it takes that funnel shape. >> yeah. i mean, that's really cool to

see, though. you can just see that. >> see it from here. not from there. >> from way far away. >> so we're still dealing with wildfires across northern california. we're also seeing and smelling the smoke in the area. it's still smoky as we go throughout the day. let's get out the door with a live look outside in dublin. right now, things are looking good there, bute seven-day foreg door to the fral morning and you need as. as we look at the south bay temperatures, we will have some pretty warm weather, slightly hotter than yesterday. morgan hill, 96 degrees there. 89 in milpitas, and also in east san jose. we head to the east bay and concord reaching 95 degrees. and 97 in danville today. oakland, 72 degrees. cool, half moon bay. we're at 60 degrees, heading up there.

we'll be up to 80 in redwood city and in san francisco. mostly a lot of 60s across the city, and then we look at our temperature spread from 60 in point reyes to 102 in ukiah today. as you're getting dressed, of course, it all depends on your location, but it's a day to try to stay cool for those inland areas. short sleeves and shorts. and then as we hea,d out hurricane hector update this morning, moving just to the tegory-3 the big island of hurricane, kicking up wind and high waves for that area. and then i want to show you another one. this is tropical storm john. yesterday, it was a hurricane. right now, wind speeds are 70 miles per hour. this will continue to weaken near baja, california, and look at what happens for us over the next couple days. actually an impact for the bay area as it will bring a slight increase in humidity where we see the greens and blues, it shows it will be more muggy outside. no rain expected, but this is going to be good for us because

higher humidity means that we won't be as hot and this could also help out those wildfire crews farther to the north in northern california, southern california as well. we'll see the temperatures reaching into the mid 90s. hottest temperatures today, and il some drifts ofimproved air quality all across the bay area. morning comult, and things looking good. >> they were looking good and then we started seeingn the roa. i want to get to a couple so i moing commute.ut with your the first is along 880 in the east bay. a traffic hazard. a grass fire just off southbound 880. haven't seen slowing from that, but if you see a couple fire trucks in that direction, now you know why. we also have a crash on southbound 680. this one is maybe going to cause some delays, but i know there's debris out on the roads and that's what could possibly be causing some issues out there.

now, down near the south bay, we still have that crash along northbound 17 at hamilton avenue. there was a lane blocked and chp tharting it could possibly be a could bring some heavy delays to this area. so far, speed sensors show everything is green for go. meanwhile, at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights aren't on just yet. we just have the typical slowing. >> thank you. speaking of traffis is your main route to the beach, and you behave badly, the city is planning ons c reports the town's mayor wants to increase officer overtime so they can do more patrolling. this would be for next summer, not this summer. drivers are blowing through stop signs and even driving the wrong way in some places. not clear if all of the out - - all of the violators are out of towners or maybe there are locals in there as well. >> 4:50 and a plan to add new

bike lanes in a san jose neighborhood is not getting a good reception. neighbors are furious to learn they're losing parking spots. they say the 54th street parking spots are just being eliminated. that changes part of a broader plan to make streets more bike they have to park down the street when they change this all up. parking projects like this create a safe space to ride a bike and make it a real option for more people. >> the change is planned to be made by october. and the city has a long-term goal of really getting people to bike or even walk 15% of the time. >> should stanford university build more housing on campus? this is a topic santa clara county is discussing and a discussion that continues today. there's public hearing this afternoon at the county government center in san josf you have anbout that.

>> dmv continues to search for solutions to its staggering wait times. lawmakers are meeting at the state capitol this week. yesterday, they decided not to order a full auditf the dmv's finances. some lawmakers are calling for the dmv to be audited. last year, the state gauge the agency $16 million. that money was supposed to help prevent expected slowdowns caused by the new federal real i.d. program. >> we're now sentencing millions of californians to long wait lines and basically saying trust the dmv. >> the dmv has hired more than 500 new employees. it says it expects wait times to start dropping next month. >> if you live in contra costa county and have government errands to get done, tonight is a good chance to do that. there's a block party at civic center plaza in walnut creek, and a lot of government agencies will be out there providing services like i.d. kits for kids, employment opportunities.

pizza delivery didn )t pan out. nbc bay area responds to a san francisco man whose pricey pizza delivery didn't quite pan out. >> consumer investigator chris chmura says that our team delivered a solution. >> win-win. place a pricey pizza order for a saturday night party. he paid $110 for delivery via door dash, but the pizza never arrived. door dash said the driver couldn't contact him by phone or text so she left. nguyen said he missed some calls and texted but was miffed she never came to the door to deliver pizza. after all, it's called door dash. he turned to us to get his $110 back. we contacted door dash. it told us thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.
