1:00. we get a look at that coming up. you're starting to see the commute building. >> and we'll see that shift. parents try to stay home and shift to more traffic in the area the next few days. it might be the case for pleasanton and oakland. a smooth drive right now. it may be a factor. i'm tracking that. this disabled vehicle on the shoulder getting down towards north main. not showing any of this. the metering lights are on. it has moved onto the fast track lane we -- lanes. we are seeing this starting today. we'll track that getting into the city. you guys have another big deal over there. >> we do. the grand central station gets the first real test. >> commuters will start using the transit center. we are live in the city talking

to people using that brand new bus line. it is all shiney and new there. >>. >> yeah. they say it is being told they hope it stays clean and usable. what a way to start the day with balloons and confetti. one man came here and he said he was walking and he is really happy to be able to ride on into it. we talked with the spokesman and that is the goal to increase ridership. there are 37 bus bays here.

they will occupy 30 bus bays. we know they will come through here eventually and in the years to come we'll see high speed rail through here as well. we talked with another young man. he said it is great to see not only clean but also spacious. it won't outgrow the terminal in the near future. >> if it looks fancy, yeah. i see a lot of empty space which is cool for people and then the park, it's cool to have the park right on top. >> so there is still work going on here. the construction will continue daily on the ground level and on the second level 24 hours a day. the bus level where we are is the third level. there was an open house here on

committing up to 50. there is a push to end late night jail releases. this is coming after a woman ov overdosed in dublin. 26-year-old jessica was released at 1:00 in the morning late last month. she was given a bart ticket. the nearest station was a mile away not to mention trains don't start running until 5:00 a.m. legislation being written to require day releases so people can have access to services. fliers inviting people to join the kkk. in several neighborhoods they were found inside small bags of rice near peoples driveways. those fliers even listed an out of state post office box and a hot line.

news. the market turmoil in turkey. the currency fell sharply sparking concerns over other immerging markets. the dow had its worst day in about a month. more federal government officials are heading to reading today. secretaries of agriculture willing holding meetings on the car fire this afternoon. secretary of homeland security, so far president trump has not visited any wild fire effected areas in california. the fire is more than 60% contained. in southern california ash from the holy fire is forcing health officials to sound the alarm. river side public health office is warning people that ash can be toxic.

people are warned to dampen the ash before wiping it. >> this is new footage to show you this morning showing the moments the nelson fire closed in on the spca. this is body cam footage. officers were racing to get the animals out. when the fire broke out it looked like the spca would be destroyed by the flames. officers work with staff and volunteers to get 60 animals out safely, but they didn't. in the meantime the nelson fire is fully contained. one home was destroyed more than 2,000 acres burned. saving animals in the fire

we are going to see a wide range of temperatures reaching into the upper 90s in parts of the tri-valley. san francisco upper 50s. mission district reaching 65 today and 70 in mill valley. where we see the greens and blues shows elevated humidity. it will feel warmer even though temperatures are coming down for the inland areas. it will heat up once again. some of us see mid-90s. there will be triple digits and then looking at san francisco

mid-70s by saturday. im ha i'll have more updates on that one. 680 we talked about that. that is in the center divide. it is a distraction baa slight slow down through pleasanton. off 238 westbound it has cleared up. southbound 880 slowing a bit heading towards the crash. the lanes should be cleared in the next few. we have seen no additional backup. now more traffic flow towards the san mateo bridge. >> westbound also the commute

lake city -pilot is dead breaking news. we have a look at live pictures. a tragic plane crash into a home. this is near salt lake city, utah. people inside the home were said to be okay. the pilot died. as the camera zooms out you can see emergency personnel there at the scene. it happened in a neighborhood near pay son canyon. we are following it as breaking news this morning. simply tragic though. it is 6:23 right now. nbc bay area respond to a family that want today turn their trash sba a treasure. >> they decided to cash in their cans and bottles. they needed chris's team to actually get their money. >> good morning. her parents collect cans and

bottles to recycle. they took it to san francisco and got a check for more than $133. that check, yeah, it bounced. they say they went back and forth but never got paid so they turned to us. we asked what happened. it said it recently switched to a new payment system and it was going online as they were paying the family. that's why the check bounced. they told us to make sure it doesn't happen again we changed the internal policy. it also gave a new check for $145 which covered recycleables plus a returned check fee. this one cleared but some times bounced checks, they happened. the fees are capped but not cheap at all. if you have to pay a fee because of someone else's account being

a little more slowing we see coming through hayward. starting to ease up as you travel southbound 880. it does look like at least one of those crashes, if they are different crashes, has cleared at 92. there may be a second crash right around here. that is what the pattern shows as well. we'll track that and i'll let you know as things develop. we are developing a nice smooth fl flow of traffic. this is out of concord. a slower drive there as well. this is west highway 4. another crash should be over on the shoulder. there is a bay bridge toll plaza. it is finally filling in as you approach. it moves smoothly. back to you. >> thank you very much. many schools start back up. one little girl's first day could set a new precedent for california. this is brook adams. she is five years old. she is bringing cannabis oil to

where they will get hands on work experience and working with their hands. it is 6:34. a tragic weekend. a car plunges off a freeway ramp killing two people. it happened just after 4:00 on highway 24 at the 680 connector. police say 18-year-old from antioch was driving when a car flew off the connector. in addition to the drive ae totl of four passengers were in the vehicle. two were killed at the scene. police say two other female passengers were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. they say he has been arrested and is facing multiple charges. continuing coverage out of washington state the fbi saying it found to flight data

coming up in about five minutes. over here we are looking at slowing at highway 37. bottleneck right there. south bay typically showing that there. amazing delay. there is a build. we'll show you that coming up. >> thanks so much. it is 6:43 right now. in you this morning southbound highway 101 back open after at least eight people were injured in an overnight crash. it happened about 1:00 this morning. chp says it was a multi-vehicle crash with a minivan rolling over trapping six people inside. it took nearly an hour to get them out. chp says at least one person was arrested for driving under the influence. today is the first day of school for a number of students including hundreds of high

schoolers in the south bay. students returning to extra levels of security there. campbell high school district -- or campbell union installed tall fences around both of the high schools. here is a live look ahead of first day of school. you can see them right there. those fences will add an extra layer of defense against possible school shooters. there are a few entrances to the campus. those fences lock once class starts and there's new software that will allow them to access campus security cameras remotely. >> i think one of the important things to realize is that high school kids are really good kids especially here. they are really facing a lot of challenges beyond, you know, having to think about school shootings. and so having this is one more

thing that we'll say to them at school. >> in the meantime another milestone. for the first time all students grades 9 through 12 will receive chrome books to take home to use. they believe it will help those kids become better students especially those that can't afford a computer at home. >> there was a feeling of feeling valued and feeling like they were given a responsibility and there was a level of trust there that was really valuable to those students. >> a select group of students provide computer tech support for their schools as part of this nonprofit program. they are really one of the reasons the district agreed to fund the extra chrome books. happening now smoke advisory in north bay point. it is for the area near north broadway avenues. they say there is heavy smoke in

we'll see temperatures jump up pretty fast. antioch up to 96. san jose 89. it is 65 in santa cruz. it is 87 in santa rosa. as you're getting dressed this morning it will be a day to try to stay cool as our hot weather continues in some areas with a t-shirt and shorts will be comfortab comfortable options. this is a break from the very hot weather we have had. going into the next several days the heat will start to nudge its way over as a large area of high pressure that causes the air to sink and returns for the end of the work week. so here is where our temperatures go. we go from upper 80s for the inland valleys. we'll see spots reaching into the 90s and then have more widespread mid-90s by saturday
