we are seeing a few clouds starting to move into the bay area. that's the marine layer that could keep us cool. let's head down to morgan hill and check out how our temperatures shape up as you get ready head out on the morning commute. we'll have more coming up. you more info on the highway closures. >> that's right. we are updating what i know in the north bay. getting towards the bay bridge is just fine. that's usually our worry. it is lakeville highway. that's the highway that's closed this morning. i just clarified it is north of highway 37. there's not a really good alternate for you. that's why chp closed highway 101 for the alternate. they can clean up the fuel spill and dirt spill over there. the rest of the bay is clear. back to you.

>> thanks so much. we are following two breaking stories. a bridge collapsing early this morning. you see right here it is kind of foggy there but that's bridge that collapsed there in the background there. the raised highway collapsed during a sudden and violent storm in the northern part of the city. they fear there are a lot of casualties. they have just posted that photo of the damage left behind. you can see that section of the bridge gone. that bridge was completed in 1967. it is over 3,000 feet long. right now chris is sifting through those photos as well as

video. she is gathering more information in our news room right now. she will have a report for us coming up at 5:30. now to our other story, a live look in london. a man crashed his car outside british parliment. it is already being called an act of terror. you can actually see from security camera video, you'll see it here. see the highlighted area there? that car swerving into barriers. they say the driver struck several bystanders. amazingly no one suffered any major injuries. they say he is not cooperating. we'll continue to bring you updates throughout the morning. >> also new on this tuesday morning the search continuing for the person who stole an oakland police cruiser overnight. >> we are live where that suv was found. pete, what are police telling you right now? >> yeah. well, as you can imagine they

are keeping tight lipped at least at this point about it. the only thing we know is apparently officers were on a call when this patrol suv was stolen from them. it was located here in the redwood heights area. this is right there behind me. it is where it was located. it was located here in oakland. police are now processing that vehicle looking for any fingerprints there so they can get more evidence. they don't have flin in custody. we'll continue to provide you only updates as they come in. today in the bay. >> all right.

she was last seen jogging the evening of july 18th in the small town of brooklyn iowa. it now has an interactive map to help jog anyone's memory. the reward in the case is now up to $336,000 now to a developing story. a woman who disappeared nearly a month ago turned up dead. she was discovered doing a routine check on friday. more tragedy in the fight to contain several wild fires burning across the state. we learned that a firefighter

died in the mendocino fire. we are confirmed the firefighter is from utah. crews continue to work to contain the fire. the biggest fire in the state's history close to 350 acres. containment there this morning. a california treasure is reopening. >> it has been closed for nearly three weeks because of the near by ferguson fire. some roads will remain closed. firefighters continue to battle the flame. we have web cam video showing the park a little smokey still. they excited to have visitors

dra crashed his car into barriers. it is already being called an act of terror. that car was swerving into the barriers. they say the car struck several bystanders including bicyclists. no one suffered any major injuries. they have captured and arrested the man. they say she not cooperating. continuing coverage on a sad story in the east bay. an officer in oakland. that officer is there critical condition after a three car crash yesterday morning. that officer was racing to the report of a suspicious person. that officer hit a car and then a semi truck. the door of that police suv had to be cut off to free that officer. >> we are a very close family. we certainly care about each other especially in a time when we have one of our own officers

that was involved in a very critical accident. >> now, his father is a lieutenant with the oakland police department. the officer's name will be released later this morning. happening today, keeping your kids safe at school. >> we are live with what's called the sandy hook promise and how it will impact thousands of students. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you. the office of education has already partnered with sandy hook promise. if you're not familiar it is a national nonprofit started by some family members of those 20 children and six adults who were shot and killed at the sandy hook elementary school in

december of 2012. their mission is to provide programs and practices to pro vent gun lie veviolence. the office of education and representative will present the board of supervisors urging them the adopt this initiative which they are expected to agree to. sandy hook hopes to accomplish the following. they have four guiding principals, if you will. they want to continue to build a national database of parents and teachers interesting in preventing gun violence in school. they want to recruit and train so called promise leaders to prevent gun violence. they can identify and help people who are at risk and keep them away from firearms. finally they want to advocate for gun safety laws. today in the bay. >> trying to make a difference. >> thank you.

rights law. happening today thousands of students across the bay area. you probably remember these images right here on your screen. it caused more than disruption for those students. they lost their homes. it only reopened after several months. today students returned for registration. those classes start tomorrow. a lot of people lost their animals. they have been looking for them all this week. nbc bay area are working to help clear the shelters. the north bay fires broke out. they helped hundreds of displaced pets and helped find their homes again.

it is heading west across the peninsula. no delays ton peninsula right no. more coming up. >> thanks so much. we are finding out 23 people are dead and another 14 people hurt after an international tour bus crashed in ecuador. they are just releasing some of the photos. they not saying what lead up to the accident. we don't know if any u.s. citizens were on board but we'll work to find out. south bay water liters. they advised against trying to charge taxpayers more money for use of water. it is something that would have to happen at the state level.

when it comes to getting around san francisco the twin peaks tunnel closure is making things tougher for riders everywhere. more buses were being used. it is compounding the shortage. fuel buses for dozensov of bus lines. they say that the riders should try to hang on. the tunnel is scheduled to reopen ten days from now. the president of the united states just called a woman a dog. >> this is the latest in the fight between the president and one of his top advisers. >> the woman he first met. let's take a look at the latest statement from the white house. when you give her a job at the white house i guess it just didn't work out. good work by general kelly for quickly firing that dog.

degrees at 11:00. if you're able to head outside for lunch and throughout the day reaching the 70s. it is 69 in oakland and 82 in napa. we start out with cool temperatures but you'll probably be comfortable all day long with light long sleeves. don't forget the sunglasses before you head out the door. you'll need a jacket if you're going out there this evening. only be in the low 60s. with breezy winds and clouds overhead it will feel a lot cooler. as we go through the forecast this is our break from the high heat. that unfortunately comes back zblus time for the weekend. we have inland areas reaching into the mid-90s by saturday. it will be the peak of our temperatures. we'll be in the mid-60s over the next few days. patches of clouds and fog as marine layer returns.

it kind of clears out for the weekend. we are not going to see as much fog. it means slightly warmer temperatures. as we head over to mike you a lot going on over there. how is it looking? >> but thing to worry about. you might have heard there he got us an update for the north bay. first i'll show you highway 4 still slow. it is on the shoulder there. moving smoothly for 680. over here we are looking at north of highway 37. this just reopened. minutes ago we got the update. an overturned dirt hauler has been cleared. the fuel has been cleared. i do believe we should have all lanes. they are great options if you want to use those instead.
