the area broadway you can get off over towards old bay shore highway. if you head up past the scene and need to get to sfo take it and you'll backtrack just a bit frm . it will keep you out of all of this. stay over to the left. as you pass the scene they will be working there right by that flare area. be careful for crews out there standing there. south 880 another crash on the other side has looked like it cleared over to the shoulder. it should be as clear a drive. the rest of the bay shows a nice pleasant drive. >> we are seeing clear visibility around the bay area as well as you get ready to head out. temperatures are in the low 60s as you get ready head out the door. as the kids get ready for the first day of soon maybe they are about to wake up soon. happy first dayov of school. clouds will linger as you walk

you can see the numbers on your tv screen. they include times stuck in traffic. it puts drivers about 80 hours wasted annually. you also have vehicle repairs and traffic accidents. there have been 162 people killed between 2014 and 2016. bad roads to blame in about a third of those accidents. it makes the point it would

our investigative unit looked for records and found this is the second death tied to the oakland based contractor. they fined them and another company more than $190,000 for what is called alleged willful and serious violations in 2011. however in a 2017 survey they answered no when asked if either had been sited for any serious and willful violations over the past ten years. the company is not commenting this morning. . >> an explosive grand jury report. it is more than 300 members abused at least a thousand children over 70 years. the church leaders protected the

i promised viewers we would get a closer look. the grapes here that are being picked for sparkling wine. this marks the first harvest season since the devastating north bay wild fires. the workers are picking the grapes as harvest season begins today. it was minimal on wineries such as the ones you're seeing right now. i did talk to the grower for this vineyard. his name is bill. he explained how the situation was last year when the wild fires hit the area. >> it was traumatic last year. we were completely harvested here when the fires broke out.

it was still nerve wracking. we had that just behind us. >> reporter: when it comes to the wild fires it burned less than 14% of napa county. no impact on what's referred to as the napa valley 4. there were ten wineries significantly damaged. no total loss of property and inventory to properties. about 90% was completed before the fires. let's get you back out here live. we are getting a look at what's taking place here today as the harvest season begins. it will head to the facility where that wine will eventually be bottle up for folks. a busy day ahead as the harvest season begins here. we are live here, today in the

bay. >> all right. watch out. maybe you can help out a little bit too. thanks. it is 6:33 right now. developing news out of italy. this intense search is underway. these are live pictures of the rescue teams searching for survivors. footage shows crews removing the rubble. look at it right there. this is just to see if there was anyone alive under all of this. so far we flknow at least 39 people were found dead in that collapse. people are looking to see anymore survivors as rescue efforts continue. officials are worried the death toll will rise. this is about two hours to the south. it connects italy to france. right now people are on summer holiday in italy. a lot of people on the road. italian officials say construction was happening to the foundation when that bridge

collapsed. they are still investigating what caused the disaster. the today show continues our coverage. that starts at 7:00 this morning. it is 6:34. new this morning a new school year underway in parkland, florida. this is students returning a couple of hours ago. this was the site of a deadly shooting in february. 17 students and faculty died. there was supposed to be new metal detectors. they say the plan is delayed duz to logistical issues. mosquitos are testing positive for the virus. tonight the county will spray in those areas. it starts at 11:00 p.m. all right. 6:35 right now. a new school year brings a lot of fun especially for san lee --

hill. it is 69 in oakland and 64 today in san francisco. staying cool along the coast we talked about oakland. if the kids are still at school you'll take them to the a's game. first pitch at 12:35. as we go through the forecast we'll have more of that ocean breeze cooling us off today but not so much for the weekend. high pressure returns and our temperatures heat up. as we clear the shelters on saturday look at that 96 degrees for the inland areas. san francisco not as much fog. it will be warmer there with low 70s. you're heading back to the investigation. >> that is the single biggest issue there. the unexpected slow down is jammed there. southbound now jamming up another crash. both of these crashes around here. southbound should clear quickly. this one has been going on since
