6:21 am
across the bridge. i thought maybe the bay bridge or san mateo bridge might see a problem, but we have seen a smooth drive in both areas. the bay bridge toll plaza at the top has the metering lights. and dumbarton picking up volume. here are the roadways, open, no problems past the area with the bort issue. this is a great map, you guys wrk look at all the green sensors. just that slowing through hayward. typical. and an earlier crash in san francisco, 101, heading up to the 280 merge. back to you. >> here's a question which got a lot of us talking. >> how long would it take you to watch every new video uploaded onto netflix last year? someone figured it out. had enough time to do it. we'll have the answer coming up next. >> i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. a bay area family gets a collections notice for medical treatment but they never got a bill in the first place. nbc bay area responds next.

6:25 am
welcome back, everyone. it's 6:24. nbc bay area responds to a san jose yare raw family who is bugged by debt collectors even though they say they never got a bill to pay. >> back in july of 2016, darlene becker's daughter badly sprained her ankle. they went to urgent care and left with an orthopedic boot to help her heal. darlene said she never got a bill in 2016 or 2017, so she assumed her insurance company had paid for everything. well, fast forward to this past april. darlene received this. a collection notice for the orthopedic boot. the debt collector wanted more than $300, too. she contacted her insurance company. it said it would have paid the bill, but it never got one either. it was now too late to file a claim. so darlene turned to us. we contacted djo global. that's the medical supply
6:26 am
company that sent the bill to collections. djo didn't respauond to us, but darlene said an executive reached out to her and in a couple weeks she was told she did not have to pay the $323 bill. we recommended one more step for darlene. that she demand djo remove the $323 bill from her credit report. that is critical. any time you win a dispute with a debt collector, you need to be sure they pull that red flag from your credit history. ideally, get that commitment in writing. if you encounter medical billing issues, let us know. 888-996-tips. or we're online at nbcbayarea.com/responds. 6:26 right now. what are you doing for the next eight months? i know you have a lot going. >> i'm pretty busy. >> this might not be for you, but if you have a lot of spare time, we have something for you to do, watch everything new on

this morning. at 6:30, we're following breaking news. delays on b.a.r.t. after a cracked rail is found. good morning and thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we want to get to mike to get a better idea of what's going on with delays. >> b.a.r.t. is still reporting major delays. they categorize major delays as
6:31 am
anything over 20 minutes. bob redell is out there with some who wait as the track is being repaired, finalized, and checked. we're now in recovery mode. we have tracks restored in both directions. >> the roadways are moving smoothly. the bay bridge toll plaza has seen a standard backup there. i thought more folks might take to the road, but they're okay. the other side of the bay, recovering from a crash, north 101 around third. and a lighter volume of traffic. folks can take to the roads. again, b.a.r.t. is in recovery mode because of an earlier issue. bob redell is out there. what do you have to add here? >> good morning, mike. we're at the bayfair b.a.r.t. station. we have three issues this morning. two in oakland, one of debris, another computer issue. those have been resolved. right now, you're watching a train heading south. on this line, this was the one issue that was a very big issue.
6:32 am
this is where the single tracking was between bayfair and hayward because of a tracked rail near the hayward b.a.r.t. station. the trains are now running back to normal. this was the scene here at the bayfair b.a.r.t. about 20 minutes ago. people waiting, who had been delayed by about 20 minutes. a lot of frustrated people trying to get to work on this thursday morning, who couldn't work from home and had to be at work but were delayed because of the single tracking issue. here what they had to say. >> what's this going to do for your commute this morning? >> going to make me late for work. >> have you called the boss? >> i'm the boss. that's the good thing about it. >> what is this delay doing to your commute? >> major inconvenience. >> you call the boss? >> yeah. >> what did he do? >> i'm disappointed. i checked the schedule at 5:00 this morning. there was no mention. >> but the service has been restored. service was restored back to
6:33 am
normal about 20 minutes ago. an announcement saying they're expecting residual delays of 15 to 20 minutes. if you look down the track, those headlights coming toward us, that's a b.a.r.t. train and i believe that's one heading towards fremont, so again, we're starting to see service restored back to normal, and you can see the fact that the platforms are empty, a good sign for people who are trying to get to work. or bad if you don't want to go to work. bob redell, today in the bay. >> you can't call your boss and say i'm delayed all day. got them going out there. actually, if you didn't get a chance to check the schedule, check nbcbayarea.com because we keep your posted all morning long. follow mike, too. >> your traffic and weather, we have you covered. vianey in for kari with a look at what we can expect today, kari. i mean vianey. >> yeah, we have you covered in
6:34 am
the weather department as well because we're starting to notice some of those clouds start to roll in. you're going to notice in san francisco, a little cloudy out there. looks a little gloomy. the temperature difference not major. most noticeable in napa. but as we head to the afternoon, again, the warm temperatures will start to kick in and kick up. but if you notice, the cloud cover will start to burn off nicely. by 11:00 a.m., in the upper 60s, climbing to 80s and niendz. fremont looking nice and sunny into the afternoon. i'll have a look at how your weekend is looking coming up in three minutes. >> all right. thank you, vianey. >> new this morning, the cdc is monitoring a measles outbreak in more than 20 states. california just one of them. you can see them all right here throughout the united states. today in the bay's kris sanchez spent the night looking into this and she joins us live outside of the santa clara health department. this is frightening for a lot of parents, especially with kids heading back to school. >> yeah, you know, the cdc has
6:35 am
not specified which communities are impacted directly, but what we do know is that most of the people who have gotten sick in this measles outbreak were not vaccinated. we also know that california state law requires public school children to have that mmr vaccine in order to go to school in a public school. i pulled up this website here, called shots for schools. you can check the vaccination rate for your kid's school by kindergarten to seventh grade, the two critical grades where immunizations happen. i used san jose, a lot of green on the map, but the yellow and red maps are charter schools. you'll want to check your schools if your kids don't go to public schools. i posted a link so you can check your neighborhood school. so the good news is that the risk seems lower for public school children because of that vaccine requirement, but you could be at risk as a grown-up if you travel for work or for
6:36 am
fun. now, from january to july of this year, 107 people got measles here in california. as you mentioned, 20 other states plus washington, d.c., the symptoms include high fever, cough, a rash, and sometimes what looks to be like pink eye. in some cases, measles can lead to brain damage or even death. and one in 4 people who get measles end up in the hospital. i posted all of this information on my feeds as well. measles is highly contagious. people who have the vaccine can be contagious for four days before they show symptoms and for four days after they get that tell tale rash. and if you have the measles virus, you can leave that in the air and people can contract it two hours after you leave the room. so you can imagine what happens on an airplane. do check out my twitter feed. i'm at @krisnbc if you need to

6:39 am
bob talked about how the san leandro station, it was packed two minutes ago, but now it's clearing as well as trains are moving in both tracks. that's much better news. look around the bay. these pictures are great. hayward, the south bay, as we get back to school, these first two weeks, parents stay home, get off to work a little later. you will see a late backup. >> i'm heading out right after the show. i have to drive and get pictures. i already warned them, lots of pictures. >> all right. so first day of school for a lot of those kids, but a lot of them thinking about recess. >> guess what. i got to meet the pup named after you yesterday at the humane society. i was hanging out there, and assia know, our clear the shelters event is this weekend. marcus, you're just as cuddly as you are in person, and laura, just as foxy. we have nice temperatures, by 2:00, 88 degrees.
