morning after a business trip. in between, watts said he and his wife had an emotional conversation. detectives haven't released how shanann was murdered but say all three were killed at home. >> he was interested in the kids and very doting and a little shy but other than that he was a good guy. >> reporter: with a community and family in mourning, shanann's brother says his sister was pregnant with a boy, niko, writing on facebook "i'm so distraught and in shock. my blood is boiling and the pain and anger and sadness i have in my heart." her family making their way to colorado to say good-bye to a mother and her two children. >> i love you. >> reporter: allegedly killed by the person who was supposed to protect them. investigators believe the deceased girls' bodies were

>> well, he gives a statement that seems on the surface to be sincere and it's what you would expect to hear but other detectives would see the same thing. he's very flat. he doesn't have any emotion. he's saying the right thing but there is nothing convincing about it. like an act he's putting on and he's not a very good actor. >> talk about getting into the brain of somebody like that who reportedly confessed to these murders. we see a lot of horrible stories where a husband kills his wife but this is different. this is a wife and two beautiful children. take us inside that. >> well, you can kind of get it when a guy gets into a fight in a parking lot in a bar when he's liquored up and kills somebody. you can kind of get in the a domestic violence situation where a guy kills his wife because he loses it or a wife kills the husband because she's a victim of domestic violence. but not only did he kill her, he killed celeste and bela and that's tough.

that makes nearly every former cia director and deputy director signing on to what amounts to a blistering rebuke of 2 president's decision to yank john brennan's security clearance. they write among other things "you don't have to agree with what brennan says and not all of us do to agree with his right to say it." the white house has not shown evidence that brennan is a threat to national security fuelling their fierce complaint that it's an act of political vengeance. overnight, 12 former senior intelligence officials releasing a joint statement blasting president trump for revoking former cia director john brennan's security clearance calling it ill-considered and unprecedented. former officials telling the president his actions against brennan have nothing to do with who should and should not hold security clearances and everything to do with an attempt to stifle free speech. it comes after brennan fired back in the names accusing the president of trying to silence

we're back with a new rossen report you want to see this morning. >> days after the deadly bridge collapse we have a new report about faulty bridges in the united states that you probably use every day. today national correspondent jeff rossen jioins us from iconc brooklyn bridge with more. jeff, what's the word? >> i wish the word was better. you see what happens in italy. it does make you wonder in america, can that happen here. engineers say yes. so often bridges collapse just like in italy without any warning. they have hidden failures deep in them that you can't see when you're driving over them. for example you mentioned i'm here at the foot of the iconic brooklyn bridge in new york city and this bridge, this huge popular bridge, with millions of cars, is deemed structurally deficient. so many of them are across the country and you'd never know it.
