lines traveling into and out of the area, but watch for police activity and watch for police tape to continue the investigation. they'll direct you on either side. the station is open, full access at the warm springs station itself. no delays reported for any of the other transit agencies. as we look at your bigger view of the commute, you see mild slowing for san jose and tri-valley and east bay. the tri-valley, no real slowing in pleasanton. that's a great drive. looking towards san jose, mild slowing for 101 and a crash 87 at taylor. we see no slowing. we send it back to you for more breaking news. >> the other breaking news story we want to tell you about, a suspicious fire at cafe paradise in san jose. >> kris sanchez live with what we know so far. she was out there very early. what's the latest? >> hi, there. firefighters are investigating this as a suspicious fire. in fact, investigators are here on the scene. we want to show you the video of when the fire started. it was a very aggressive fire. it burned very fast here at cafe
6:02 am
paradise on monterey road and old tully road. it burned for about 20 minutes before firefighters were able to get it under control. when we were here, we saw firefighters up on the roof looking down into the building or onto the rooftop. it appears perhaps that's where the fire originated. we can't confirm that yet because the fire is under investigation. what we can tell you is that the owner was out here and told our early morning crew that this is the fourth time this restaurant has caught fire. and certainly that person wants to know who's responsible or how this fire started this time around. this is at old tully road and monterey road, right across from oak hill cemetery, not too far from the fairgrounds. a very busy thoroughfare in the morning, but i have been in touch with mike inouye, and there is no impact to trasks at this point because all of the big rigs, the big firefighting trucks and ladders are gone. so you won't notice anything out here as you're passing through,
6:03 am
but fire is under investigation and as the fire department is ready to release details we'll pass them along to you. kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thank you for that update. >> we'll toss it to kari hall with a look at our temperatures. very mild start to our morning every day this week so far. >> right. we have see low clouds rolling by, especially for parts of the bay. we also had some hazy skies. once clouds clear out of here, so that's what we'll see again today. often and on smoke at times, and if you do smell the smoke and have breathing problems, you may need to limit your time outside. let's check out our temperatures for today where we start out with mid 60s and then we'll be at 75 degrees at 2:00 today. heading into the upper 70s this afternoon. so we are enjoying a bit of a cooldown. not only for the coastal areas but also as you work your way inland with livermore today reaching 80 and 79 in san jose. here's an update on hurricane lane this morning. while you were sleeping, this is still maintaining its category 4
6:04 am
strength, and it's a very large storm, already starting to see some of the outer rain bands moving into the hawaiian islands as of now. we have the hurricane warnings in effect and flash flood warnings in effect. the wind speeds at 130 miles per hour. it's starting to make its northwesterly turn at 7 miles per hour, and then over the next couple days it will turn more north, more westerly, i should say, as it moves closer to oahu, and also kauai. still a category one hurricane, and very dangerously close to some of those islands. here's what to expect as the storm moves in. we're looking at the potential of 5 to 15 inches of rain. isolated rain amounts up to 20 inches, which will cause a lot of flash flooding. mudslides, and also rock flows and wind speeds could move up to about 75 miles per hour with some of those higher gusts. it's something we'll continue to monitor throughout the morning and the next couple days. >> we're still talking about it
6:05 am
right now. this is what people are preparing for, the worst there. that hurricane lane barreling toward the island. kari just told us, in fact, it's not expected to get a direct hit from the storm, hawaii itself, but it could bring a lot of widespread rain and powerful winds to oahu that could cause damage. this is what the massive storm looks like from the international space station, in fact. look at it out there, how large. in the meantime, help is on the way to hawaii from the bay area. 36 research and rescue personnel along with several officials from san francisco, san mateo, and santa clara counties on the ground in oahu this morning. task force 3 prepared for water rescues, medical response and many other emergencies. >> these guys will be embedded with local teams, three different islands. in advance of the hurricane. >> task force 3 also deployed in 1992 for the strongest storm to ever hit hawaii, hurricane aniki.
6:06 am
it cost $5 billion in damage and killed six people. everyone is hoping lane does not bring that same destruction. 6:05, and new this morning for you, new plan to add housing but reduce parking at b.a.r.t. stations. pete suratos is live in walnut creek looking through the report for us. good morning, pete. >> good morning to you. of course, here at walnut creek -- excuse me, give me one second here. yeah, guys, we're here at walnut creek. there's construction being worked on but the state bill is talking about building housing here on b.a.r.t. or land, essentially fast tracking any approvals to build some of the housing here at different b.a.r.t. stations. we talked to some people to see how it affects parking in the area. here's what they had to say. >> going to do good for the economy and stuff like that. i would think 400 steps from b.a.r.t., i think it's pretty
6:07 am
good. >> a problem with parking. we're already having a lot of problems with parking. >> people have to live somewhere, right? it makes sense to build housing close to b.a.r.t. or any municipality that moves people fast to get to where they want to go. >> so those that are for it say it would be a viable solution to the current housing crisis. those in opposition feel that the city should have the last say on housing, not b.a.r.t. you guys are looking at the new parking garage that's in the works here at the walnut creek transit village that's going to add 100 parking spots to the 800 that are already there. it's going to take a few months for construction. the west access road here at walnut creek will be closed as will the south parking lot. taking you back out here live to the construction that's under way. as for that state bill, which would call for potentially fast tracking housing here at the b.a.r.t. station in the bay area, they're saying that bill could hit the senate floor as early as today.
6:08 am
we're live here in walnut creek, pete suratos for today in the bay. >> thanks so much, pete. >> also new this morning for you. central marin police are hoping you can identify the men in these images. the department posted these photos on facebook. investigators say five men swiped devices off two tables at the apple store at noon yesterday. they took off to a waiting car there with its license plate covered. all they took, that cost nearly $20,000. $20,000 worth of merchandise they were able to get away with. >> santa clara county and san jose are getting more than $2 million from the federal government. this is for last year's flood deaths. we're talking about the coyote creek flooding that caused more than $100 million in damages. this money comes from the major disaster declaration that pt. p signed last year. most of that money is actually reimbursement for the repair work that already has been done since the historic flooding.
