we have drifts of smoke coming in. as we get a look today even though it will be cooler you need to limit your time outside. we go from the mid-60s to the low 80s by early afternoon. mostly sunny skies. if you're a teacher or parent making plans for the kids today keep them inside today because of the poor air quality. temperatures are looking good with low to plmid-60s. we are heading up to 78 degrees. it is 77 in napa. today lower 60s. let's talk more about the air quality. yesterday they got really unhealthy towards the east bay and south bay. today it will be moderate and gradually improving throughout the day. this morning looking pretty bad. for more information we'll send it over to chris who has a live report and keeping an eye on

bay. a quick update on hurricane lane. it is bringing the outer rain bands over hawaii right now. current wind speeds 120 miles per hour. the eye is well south. it will not have a direct hit. we'll see that continuing with the slow moving storms. the rain bands whipping over the islands bringing in high waves as well. flooding a concern there. we'll continue to monitor that. as we bring it back home hopefully you can catch public transit it will be a beautiful afternoon but still kind of hazy. hig highs reaching the low 80s. it is 82 in morgan hill.

the bay bridge toll plaza. it has continued to show fewer and fewer cars. the fast track lanes in the mid-parking lot area. no problems now. it will go a little later on but the approach looks great as well. telling everyone car pool and cut down on the ozone. air quality got really bad for all of the areas shaded in red. it's not bad for people with breathing problems. it was unhealthy to be outside.

our temperatures have been cooler. we are looking at highs in the upper 70s from the tri-valley. it is 77 in napa and low 60s in san francisco. looking at hurricane lane still even during the overnight hours maintained a category 3 strength and outer rain bands are moving across many of the hawaiian islands. over the next couple of days it will turn nortderly and westerly. it will bring in torrential rain and high waves. we have more information on that.

the massive hurricane is a triple threat. some areas could see 30 inches or more, damaging winds and waves cresting at 25 feet or higher. landslides occurring. >> the dangerous conditions are expected to continue in some areas for 24 to 36 hours. >> it will hang around but it's moving slowly. that's why we are taking so much precaution here. >> and why so many are concerned that if the storm lingers so will the problems here. >> it is health, safety and security. >> rain continues to churn and move closer to the coast.
