winds. tonight barely a breeze out here and the fire has essentially laid down for the evening. >> reporter: a small fleet of helicopters buzzed over head dumping buckets of water throughout the snell burnt area. ground crews aided by tracker taking advantageu>x> of the condition and berryessa, nearly everyone is gone. only a few households decided to stay and watch fire crews throughout the day. >> it was intense of all the fire, the helicopters and the planes going over but we felt confident that they're on it. >> we lost our house in the valley fire. we didn't want to do that again. >> reporter: we saw the bowersa spraying down their home last night as the smell fire was burning near by.

the weather levels are looking at the surface lows tonight. as we go through the day, you will begin to see moderate smoke drifting from the north bay and parts of the east bay and it is a sea breeze pick up. we should see better air quality as we head towards the evening. air quality outlook for tomorrow. the worse of the smoke will be in the north bay. as we head into tuesday, we'll begin to see more smoke drifting into the central bay. we'll talk more about that and a big drop and our temperatures coming our way for the middle part of the week and our forecast coming up in twelve minutes. >> rob, thank you so much. you can know our weather by downloading our nbc bay area app and click on the weather tab. it is free and gives you a detail forecast right down to your area. heads up now if you will be around sonoma county this week. emergency leaders plan to test their alert systems to see if it will work the next disaster.

football tournament forced to take cover because of a shooting. it starred in fresno. al former police officer stole a car and then around the afternoon, that suspect called gilroy p.d. told dispatch everies the car had been stolen from him. he called back a short time later and mentioned gilroy high school and the dwyesire quote, "fight with police ". officers rushed to the school. tl men t the men tried to ram the officer and that's when the officer open fire. police say parents there for the football tournament rushed to block access to the field where their children were playing >> scary moment there. the dallas police officer who shot and killed the man and in his own apartment is being charged with man slaughter. it is a story drawing national

attention. officer amber guyger thought it was her apartment. she opened fire and mistook bontham jean as a burglar. >> tonight family and friends held a i#1 vigil. they say he's an active church member there. his funeral will be held on thursday. a series of disturbing events at the east bay synagogues. reports. >> reporter: flyers on the ground of the synagogues. >> gary greene lives on the street. >> there is no rationally or hatred or bias.

>> reporter: police were notified by the incident. that organization says five synagogues in the east bay reported finding them. >> these were fliers on behalf of white supremacist groups that's spreading messages of hatred. he says extremist groups have been embolden. >> reporter: he says a tactic is to stroll people online and spread fliers. >> this time of the yeerar, it a time that we have to remind the jewish community to be aware and vigilant. >> reporter: there was not until a threat of violence. the temple board released a statement in part, these hate

show tomorrow and hear what she has to say. >> hear what she has to say tomorrow. >> i think people will be talking about it for days. >> absolutely. >> rob is here with a look at what's coming up in our weather. >> weather wise, air quality to start the week and a big drop in temperatures coming our way as we head towards wednesday. outside right now we got the combination of typical temperatures for this time of the year, still some 70s in land around concord and 60 near san francisco and 50 at half-moon bay. the bay bridge lights are looking nice. low clouds and 60 degrees in san francisco. still had highs close to 70s. you can see out towards dublin at 69 degrees. temperatures still into the 90s. that sea breeze did not turn on until mid afternoon. temperatures warmed up quickly this morning. right now san jose at 66 degrees. highs not too bad. 83 degrees we'll be trending down certainly by the time we get towards wednesday and

thursday. winds coming in out of the northwest and bringing in slightly dryer air a lot. preventing low clouds. we are expecting mostly clear skies to start. winds increasing as we go through the afternoon. highs tomorrow, san jose south, mid to upper 80s. 90s around gilroy and temperatures in the upper 80s and still closer to 90 at antioch and mid-70s to oakland. peninsula temperatures tomorrow we'll see numbers with sunshine and in the mid-60s. and redwood city and palo alto. >> downtown may get close to 70s. embarcade embarcadero. >> temperatures in the 80s wechwe'll see some cooling up on the north coast as well. wait until the forecast arrives on wednesday and thursday. here is a look at the low

clouds. hour by hour tomorrow morning. sunny start on the coast, at times a patch or two of low clouds heading down sonoma coast. different story though comes tuesday and wednesday. look at this on the map. this is the first fall-like weather system we have seen so far bringing rain into the pacific northwest and the band of clouds across the bay area. the winds will be picking up. temperatures will be going down. look at the rain totals from the pacific northwest and now take a closer look. s some showers up here and possibly around the delta fire and around the ongoing fires up on the north coast. winds will be an issue. we'll see a wind shift as the system comes in. we are hoping that we'll get some measurable rainfall for a change across northern parts of california. so for san francisco, we'll see breezy and cool conditions as we head towards the middle part of the week. in land valleys have been in the

napa county from the snell fires. evacuation orders are still in effect for the berryessa estate community. in oakland, a stirring tribute to the late ron dellums, today, hundreds gathered for a private celebration of his life at jackson square. the long list of speakers:pú4]x included congresswoman nancy pelosi and barbara lee. police opened fire on a man who discover on the sports field during a youth football game and tried to ram an officer with a car. investigators say the man is a former police officer who was acting strangely. he allegedly stole a car in fresnomgs2 and told gilroy disp that he wanted to fight with police officers. nobody was hurt in the incident. a scary wake up call this morning for people living in the

south bay. a fire broke out at 1:00 a.m. at a home in sunnyvale. everyone got out safely but you can see flames destroyed that house. firefighters evacuated people living inside the home. it took crews under an hour to get fire under control. one couple had just seconds to get out. >> by the time we had ran outsi outside, the whole house was on fire. >> none of the neighboring homes sustained any damage. a section of highway 9 in saratoga is back open tonight after a man drove over a cliff falling 200 feet this morning. this video shows first responders working to rescue him. the crash was reported around 5:00 a.m. this is near castle rock state park in los gatos. no word on whether the man was intoxicated at the time of the

accidentme accident. a search for a missing person. the united states coast guards found an empty kayak in the area. hours later, a man's body was found at the pacifica beach. he has been pronounced dead. it is unknown whether that body is connected to the missing person in half-moon bay. the coast guard is still searching out in the open ocean. hurricane florence is strengthening and can be become a major hurricane as soon as tomorrow. the forecast putts on a track to hit the east coast later this week. today rain pounded parts o f the northeast and ohio valley delaying sporting events. nbc's steve patterson reports. >> reporter: tonight's millions battling surge waters and torrential rains . saturday, a teenage mother and

the florida keys and causing more than $50 billion in damage. the country fulling the full j wrath of storms and millions more are bracing for impact. steve patterson. nbc news. days before the nation pauses to remember 9/11 attacks. a new memorial honors the people who died on flight 93. it was headed to newark on sfo when terrorists hijacked it. that plane crashed in a rural pennsylvania field. today a new 93 foot tall memorial was dedicated to the victims. it is called the tower of voices and it is the last big edition to the memorial site. right now there are eight wind chimes in that tower. eventually, there will be 40 chimes to honor 40 passengers and crews who died. five of whom were from the bay area. >> this landmark soerves as a symbol of strengths and courage.

you can see cars of the president's motorcade. the president did not require medical attention. >> those dashcam video. wow. we'll turn our attention to the forecast and it is feeling like fall. >> did we? >> big drop in temperatures. the weekend is finishing off some vend diagralleys in upper 90s. before we get there, a wide look outside at sfo, no delays and no fog right now and not seeing much fog in the morning. it is breezy. winds currently at 58 degrees. those of you across the bay, 61 right now and temperatures earlier in the mid-70s. we'll see similar numbers again tomorrow and in the san jose early 66 degrees, 80s today likely more 80s tomorrow. also, you may notice the smoke advisers with some hazy skies.

we are thinking mostly clear skies for tomorrow morning with number in the 50s. as we head in the afternoon, highs tomorrow still pretty warm. south of downtown san jose. we'll see upper 80s around morgan hill still around 90s around san martin. concord and antioch and pittsburgh upper 80s. maybe close to 90s and still some of the warmer spots near brett wood and 70s in oakland and 70s from redwood city towards sfo and san mateo and after half-moon bay. the north bay you will see temperatures in the 80s and now dropping out of the 90s. the forecast will get more interesting for us in terms of cloud cover and big drop in temperatures as we head towards

wednesday. tomorrow may be surprising kind of what we had today. clear skies from the coast to in land areas for your monday and tuesday with a few extra high clouds and things get interesting here as we get into wednesday as you see over my shoulder, this looks maybe more like october. what we got here is a weather system dropping down the coast that'll bring rain to the north and the system weakening as it passes there you the bay area. it will bring us clouds and increasing wind speeds and cooler air behind it. it is going to drop temperatures down and as you see our clouds on thursday looks fairly cool. high pressure will build back. temperature wils will climb a b. speaking of rainfall, that starts to look like fall. look at how showers now are not in the area bay area but north

around the county. you can see showers and enough around the cascades as well. nothing around the sierra yet. we'll see some cooler temperatures and maybe some showers around the delta fire. as we look at our seven-day forecast, notice san francisco increasing clouds. look at these valley temperatures, dropping down out of the 80s to mid-70s and morning temperatures in the 40s and low 50s as we head towards the middle part of the week for temperatures rebounding as we head towards saturday and sunday. midweek plans out towards hawaii. here is olivia, it will weaken into a tropical storm. it will# oahu. hurricane florence, the long range forecast on wednesday and thursday does not look good. ramping up to category four of winds of 150 miles per hour and can have a big impact right now as the weather models are
