and good monday morning, as we start the work week. taking a live look outside, one of my favorite shots there of the bay bridge, you can see just a beautiful way to start the morning. thanks so much for starting your morning with us here at "today in the bay." i'm marcus washington. mike will have a look at traffic in a bit. right now, keri is looking at the weather. >> it's cooler today and amazing news for our forecast for the rest of the week, but let's just get out the door. morgan hill this morning, right now temperatures heading into the low 60s. the low 50s will be in the low 60s by 10:00 today. lot of sunshine, nice cool start, and in san jose a high of 80 degrees. still some upper 80s for the inland valleys and then we head over to san francisco today with a high of 67.

we'll talk about the cooler air in the forecast and mooirk, you already have a crash in the altamount corridor. >> that will affect our early commuters. overall green sensors around. scattered incidents we have two crashes, one at north flynn and the other at, my gosh, just past there, so we're looking at two different locations. sounds like the same crash right about the middle of where they're located. these folks are coming out of the tracy area. the construction crews may be a factor. what will not be a factor is this, a traffic alert until about a half hour ago eastbound 580 but that's all cleared at 38th so no residual slowing and county. happening today, students will return to aou bay high school where a frightening scene

played out during a youth football tournament. yesterday people had to run for cover because of a police shooting. it started early yesterday morning in fresno when a former police officer stole a car and around 1:00 p.m. that suspect called gilroy pd and told the tis pat dispatchers the car had been stolen from him. he called back a short time mentioned gilroy high school and the desire to fight with police. officers found the man driving on a baseball field next to the stadium where a pop warner ftb under way. that man allegedly tried to ram the officer and that officer opened fire. the suspect stopped and surrendered. meantime panicked parents by th. meantime, a police chase ficers say that he's known ads a gang member who stole a car early yesterday morning, but

when an officer spotted that car and tried to pull rico over, he allegedly sped off. police say he rammed several patrol cars and then dispatched the stolen car, deserted that stolen car near mayellen avenue and scott street in san jose. as he ran off, officers fired. the suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police took him into kus i can -- custody. homeowners in napa county the snell fire continues to burn and that fire has burned so far more than 2,400 acres and about 20% contained. the flames are threatening almost 200 homes in a development called barriesa estates. sergio quintana has the latest. >> reporta buckets of water on spots throughout the snell burn area but this evening the fire is much less intense. >> totally different now. earlier today there was smoke everywhere, and activity was

? kn in sonoma county a first of its kind emergency alert system will be put to the test. people can expect a phone call to their land lines and cell phones if they're signed up for so co alert system. this is on wednesday the county will activate its wireless emergency system. we sat down with sonoma county emergency manager and you can find our report on nbcbayarea.com. just click on the "investigations" tab. nbc bay area continues to respond to a north bay fire victim. those victims there we've been helping people tackle insurance issues. we're not alone. consumer investigator chris kamura is here to tell how people lost their homes last year can speak up for change. >> it's been almost a year since the devastating fires, in advance of the october anniversary, a non-profit group is trying to gauge how fire victims are recovering. san francisco based united policy holders wants to know if

twitter, telling apple to build following the tech giant's warning that proposed tariffs on chinese goods would impact several of its products. the president urged ford to build its focus active model in the u.s. after the automaker canceled plans to import it from china citing cost issues due to tariffs. ford is standing by its decision saying it wouldn't be profitable to built focus active here in america. pack over to you. >> interesting this call over twitter as opposed to setting up a meeting. thanks, kate. in the week ahead, experts take another look at that cracked window at san francisco's millennium tower. in the past few days a worker will rappel down the side of that building to do another evaluation, this after an inspection saturday hit a snag. drone set up to inspect the glass crashed. two years ago nbc bay area's investigative unit broke the story the skyscraper was sinking and tilting. experts are trying to figure out if the cracked window is linked to those problems or being caused by something else.

the coast and the inland parts of the east bay down to santa clara valley, we will still have the hazy skies with new wildfires burning in the north bay. but it won't be as smoky elsewhere. the seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen. come over and check it out. our temperatures in martinez today will be at 60 degrees at 8:00, and we will have a morning where you need a jacket or some long sleeves, but as the day goes along here we're looking at mid 80s. some of our inland valleys will upper 80s in concord today, 87 degrees. 80 in san jose, so we keep the comfortable weatheer bit cooler with a high of 75. san francisco reaching 67 and santa rosa today with a high of 87 degrees. it's going to be a warm one. we have that wide range in temperatures from the morning to the afternoon hours, so grab a jacket for the first part of the day, the rest of the day will be comfortable with some short sleeves. here is a look at what's happening out there in the pacific. now we still have hurricane olivia, that's a category 1,

that has since moved closer to hawaii, and then we also have newly developed paul that is just to the west of cabo, and this will continue its track off to the west over the next few days. but i'm looking at ow now. this could cut right through the hawaiian islands as a tropical storm over the next several days, so this could bring a lot of rain, and then the other main headline will be hurricane florence getting ready to move toward the carolinashe we'll all be watching andys. as we get a look atto home, som upper 80s in the forecast today, but look at how it cools off this week, wednesday we'll have more clouds and highs reaching into the mid-70s as a trough drops in. that's an elongated area of low pressure that will bring in some cooler temperatures, and then it goes right back up in time for the weekend, we'll be back in the mid 80s, san francisco staying in the 60s all week long. mike, you have an update on the new crash in san jose.

>> kari, doesn't look like a major issue. as far as our speed sensors i'll get out of muir way because it was behind me. it changed. it was at green. you might have seen it pop up as i cleared the area. this right here is the area where the yellow indicates speeds coming down toward around 50. little slowing south 680 coming down toward jackson. this is jackson far north through sunol and fremont in san jose. there is a little slowing there near the overcrossing. chp must have just arrived. 680 the volume of traffic in the area it's relatively light. good number of cars and any activity that would cause some slowing as the flashing lights approach. we also have these, the mch traffic on both sides for those cash lanes. this should start to clear up over the next ten minutes as they open, the remaining couple of cash takers but we'll see how things shape up at the toll plaza to start your week. back to you, marcus. >> 4:49 right now.

a continued shortage of drivers reportedly has muni turning to new measure to avoid further bus delays. the agency is lowering its training standards in an effort to get more drivers in to service. according to "the examiner" sf muni officials are reducing the amount of training hours needed to become an operator. the number of hours spent with certified trainers has as well ever since school returned to session last month, muni has at times been overwhelmed by the amount of riders on buses and n. happening potential step toward the future development of downtown san jose. the city's office of economic development holds a public meeting at the vongoing effort to bring a massive google campus into the city. that campus would be located in an area near the diradon station. it's a big part of the plan city leaders have to turn the station into a major transit hub.

costa county is week, a move to save mon in contra costa county may lead to changes in health care monitoring. that's because governor jerry brown recently signed a bill to dissolve the west contra costa health care board of directors. it's possible supervisors will consider appointing themselves to the board but other options will also be considered. health care board recently or currently actually makes financial decisions like paying bond holdings and bills. the meeting will be held tomorrow morning. also this week, san francisco is gearing up for governor brown's global climate action summit. the three-day summit starts wednesday. governments, companies and public will be there at the meeting to discuss their actions to protect the environment. organizers say that they want to highlight strategies that work. that event is expected to draw 4,500 delegates from around the world, ready to deal with those protesters as well who really aren't happy with the pace of cutting carbon emission and

reducing population. list of high-profile speaker there is on your screen including former vice president al gore, pelosi, mark beninhoff and jane goodall, patty smith and former secretary of state john kerry. a series of disturbing discoveries at east bay synagogues, comes at a time when jewish community observing the high holidays. christy smith reports. >> reporter: a semple beth shalom board member found an anti-semitic flyer on the ground. >> wonderful neighbors. >> reporter: neighbor gary green lives on the quiet san leandro street. >> there's no accounting for the irrationality, hatred, bias, bigotry. >> reporter: police were notified about the incident, along with the anti-defamation league. that organization says that five synagogues in the east bay report finding them recently. >> these are flyers that were on behalf of white supremacist

group that is spreading messages of hatred. >> reporter: seth brist is regional director for the anti-defamation league. here is an image of that flyer. he says extremist groups have been emboldened. >> alth charlottesville last year, they viewed that as a failure because it garnered negative publicity. >> reporter: he says the tactic is to troll people online and spread flyers. >> sadly, at this time of year, the jewish high holy days, it is a time when we have to remind the jewish community to be aware, to be vigilant. >> reporter: san leandro police say they're increasing patrols, which they typically do there this time of year. there wasn't a threat of violence. the temple board released a statement in part, "these hate groups stand for the very opposite of our values of love and inclusivity. we are fortunate to have a warm and close-knit community that will not be cowed by attempts to intimidate. we wish our entire community a sweet and happy new year."
