>> welcome back. on this monday, we're closer to the weekend than yesterday. >> we're trying to make it through the week. let's look ahead to some warmer weather in case you were unable to get out this past weekend or you had a lot to do. we are going to cool down midweek with our inland valleys reaching into the mid-70s, but then look at saturday and sunday, we're not going to be done with summer just yet. we'll be in the mid 80s and for san francisco, we'll see the temperatures heading back into the mid to upper 60s in time for the weekend. so what are you planning to do? maybe you're going to the sierra. squaw valuey is looking good. morning temperatures chilly in the 30s but highs reaching into the upper 60s and some mostly sunny skies, if you want to head to a vineyard and going tasting through the tri valley it will be in the upper 70s, low 80s, and saturday we're up to 80 degrees, so that's going to be really nice. and then maybe beach plans going
6:41 am
to monterey will be cool. at least 64 degrees all throughout the weekend, with mostly sunny skies, and those clouds lingering throughout the morning hours. let me know what you have planned for this upcoming weekend. i'm @karihallweather and if you're not doing so already follow me on facebook, twitter on instagram. i'll have a look at today's temperature trend coming up in three minutes. >> sounds good, thanks so much, kari. we continue to follow breaking news out of san francisco, a muni bus has crashed into a building. >> take a look at these pictures there, live for us. we know that some of those passengers were hurt. the extent of their injuries unknown. we are live at the scene. we'll have an update coming up for you in a moment. president trump has a lot to say about bob woodward's new book. we'll bring you the latest. let's take you out to the big board as well, dow industrials up 96 points. footlocker up 4%, saying nike sales are doing very well. "today in the bay" will be right back.

it's 6:44 on this monday morning. as you get ready to step out the door in fremont, the clouds you're seeing will clear up fairly fast. 61 degrees is the temperature at 10:00, and then some upper 70s at 4:00 today. nice day to get outside and go for a long walk. we'll talk about the rest of the week coming up in less than five minutes. we'll talk about a pretty typical pattern for monday but the big problem is here in san francisco, a muni bus into a
6:45 am
building, disrupting line 28 at the very least. also drivers are told to stay out of the area of lombard near scott. we of course have crews on the scene. we'll hand it back to the team. >> we'll toss it over to pete suratos live at the scene of the bus crash. pretty dramatic video he has as well. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura, dramatic indeed and look, we're still here on lom guard street gathering more information from san francisco police. i'll get to that in a moment. once again we'll wait for these buses, it's a busy street here, guys. across the way, you got that muni bus that drove straight into that building. we're learning it's a dry cleaning business that it drove into. as far as the details from san francisco police roughly happened around 5:45 a.m., the 28 muni bus line. the driver in that bus that drove into that building, they don't know exactly why that driver lost control, headed eastbound and drove onto the opposite side of traffic into
6:46 am
that building. we are getting an update as far as injuries go. we first reported according to san francisco fire four people are possibly injured, downgraded to two injuries, one of the injuries being the driver who has life-threatening injuries and also a passenger on the bus who has non-life-threatening injuries, so right now you got this whole investigation taking place with san francisco police. you got them on the scene and the city inspector en route to check out the structural damage of this building and look at the headache with the traffic here and the street closures and san francisco police did not have an estimated time but feel it could possibly reopen in two hours but really guys it's too early to tell. pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> quite the scene behind you. thank you. the president says the new book about the white house is in his words a scam. >> scott mcgrew that book comes up in less than 24 hours. >> written by two-time pulitzer prize winner bob woodward who
6:47 am
has written a slew of books about presidents and with carl bernstein helped bring down richard nixon. the new book is called "fear" based on hundreds of interviews with white house officials. to be clear the white house knew woodward was writing the book and talking to people inside. bob woodward will be on the "today" show coming up at 7:00. the "today" show has run on the east coast, where we got this tape and president trump watched this interview. we know because he tweeted about it, quoting our savannah guthrie, mostly anonymous sources in here. why should anybody trust you, general mattis and general kelly said it's not true. trump said bob woodward who is like a dem operative. prior to the midterms he was caught cold even by nbc. you may notice president trump did not provide woodward's response to savannah's question. here is the moment the president is quoting with both sides. >> you have john kelly, the white house chief of staff calling the president an idiot saying we're in crazy town.
6:48 am
that's a quote. john kelly says that never happened, i didn't say it. jim meatis, another person quoted saying the president's understand is like a fifth or sixth grader. he says i didn't say it. are they lying? >> they are not telling the truth. >> that's lying. >> no, but look, what's going on here, and my old boss at "the washington post," ben bradley, used to say the truth emerges. sometimes it takes time. these people, these are political statements to protect their jobs, totally understandable. >> now watch for that interview coming up this morning on "today" about 7:30. we're watching jeff sessions, he's speaking to new immigration judges, during the same event last year he said u.s. policies that allow immigrants to seek asylum in the united states are broken. we're watching everything that's going on today. you can follow me on twitter, i
6:49 am
am companya @scottmcgrew. 6:48 time for weather and traffic. we know a muni bus has crashed. he's checking the lines but first -- >> let's go to weather, a nice cool day. >> not as much fog as we have seen recently at the golden gate bridge. we'll continue to monitor the air quality which of course has been an issue but there will be some improvement today for areas south of the going goinlden gat but the north bay dealing with smoke with the snell fire that started out on saturday in napa county. our wind pattern will carry a lot of that smoke away from much of the bay area. as we check out dublin today in our temperature trend at 8:00 it's a cool start at 55 degrees but much more comfortable at noon, reaching into the mid 80s for later on today. so a big warmup there. getting the kids up and out the door for school this morning, as you walk to school, you'll need a jacket. it will only be 55 degrees or
6:50 am
you may have to turn up the heater in the car as you go through that drop-off line. as we go through the day, some mid-70s so it will be a very nice one with a lot of sunshine. eventually reaching up to about 80 degrees in san jose. we do still have some very warm weather from morgan hill, extending up toward livermore and antioch and concord, highs reach into the upper 80s and over toward santa rosa with a high of 87 with san francisco today staying in the upper 60s, so as you are getting dressed this morning, grab a jacket, because of these cool temperatures that we're feeling to start, but later on today, short sleeves will keep you comfortable. here is an update on what's happening in the tropics. we have tropical storm paul that has formed just to the west of cabo, and this will continue on over the open pacific over the next few days, and then we also have category 1 hurricane olivia. this has been here for quite a well, strengthening and weakening and this we will kee an eye on it's headed straight
6:51 am
for the hawaiian islands and will move north to the big island as a tropical storm over the next 24 hours, so i'll be giving you more updates on that and the other big headline is hurricane florence, that's now a category 2 in the atlantic, and this is heading westward toward parts of the carolinas, over the next few days, and may become a major hurricane, so this will be making some big headlines over the next few days. as we get a look at our forecast here, san francisco reaches into the upper 60s, slightly cooler for the middle of the week, and then as we look at our inland areas as warm as 88 degrees today but look at the cooldown between wednesday and thursday, highs only in the mid-70s and warming back up again for the weekend. mike, you have an update on that street closure in san francisco. >> pete suratos is out there and told us it's close westbound lombard street. i'm showing you on the maps the red sensors, because of that crash involving a muni bus, line number 28. it crashed into a dry cleaner next to the days inn, very close
6:52 am
to scott. scott and pierce are the borders for the closure. that is the issue. the shot we have pete's crew is on scene, there is that muni bus from line number 28, behind it you could see the awning for the motel, as well as the dry cleaner, which is hidden by the bus. there were injuries reported, it sounds like it's been downgraded from four to two people but look at that tree there, that bus is up on the sidewalk, and that is a huge issue for westbound lombard, that's why it's closed, getting back out to the map, because westbound does take you over toward the golden gate bridge, that is a problem, it's taking you through the city and over toward golden gate bridge, as far as that commute but of course, both directions are slow through the area. again, muni bus line 28, 43 and 91 also traveling through the area. they may be affected because this will be there for a while. the rest of the bay is looking just fine. the south bay over here we have your typical pattern. the tri valley we have a crash which cleared just before you get to sunol boulevard. couple more crashes, a whole
6:53 am
cluster of stuff going on near the dublin interchange but all of that quickly moved to the shoulder as well. the big deal is the crash over in san francisco, because the tri valley moves smoothly and we have that build over here for hayward as well. pete suratos continues to report from the scene, lombard is closed between scott and pierce for that bus in the building, guys, back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. coming up, we're staying on top of that breaking news in san francisco, after that muni bus crashes into a building. pete suratos is speaking with people at the scene. he'll have a live report coming up. first happening now at 6:53, authorities in southeast france say police arrested a man who rammed his car through two glass doors at lyon's international airport and sped onto the runway. brand new video to show you. flights have been diverted away from the french airport and there is a ground stop. we're back in two minutes with more.
