flights without fees. later this morning, the evacuations are set for coastal virginia. folks in low-lying areas told they have to make way before hurricane florence comes ashore, likely thursday evening. the photograph from space revealing florence is a monster. a hurricane with the potential to alter the coastal landscape. a state of emergency in four states. >> the forect places north carolina in the bull's eye of hurricane florence. and the storm is rapidly getting stronger. >> reporter: north carolina authorities already calling for a mandatory evacuation on the outer banks. residents who often islands taking no chances with this one. in south carolina surfers took to the growing waves. >> i'm pretty worried. >> reporter: but noon, the governor says he will call for evacuations along his state's entire 187-mile-long coast.

>> if you're in the evacuation zone you need to get moving quickly. >> reporter: in virginia, the u.s. navy ordering 30 ships to sea. the efforts on the way to skirt the hurricane. the worry is florence could cause historic flooding. already long lines for gas, and in some cases stations running dry. water, ice and bread increasingly in short supply. the last time a hurricane this size targeted the coast 1989, hi hugo. >> i couldn't sleep last night. >> reporter: all eyes on the cone of uncertainty. overnight, walmart and other stores saying they have logistically moved supplies back into the area so folks will be able to get the bread, the ice, thehat ey need so that they can make their plans to hunker down or evacuate as this

hurricane approaches. philip? and bill karins is tracking this storm. >> two days left for preparation. still a category four. the rapid intensification has stopped for a while at least. four or five as it approaches over the next two days, then it should weaken slightly right before landfall. they have 150-mile-per-hour winds wednesday evening. thursday evening, hurricane has it at about 140. our greatest concern is from camp lejeune, jacksonville, morehead city, cape hatteras and inland areas, like newburgh. and the rainfall could be excessive, the tar river and the moose river which had horrendous flooding in 1999. feet of rain if it does stall out in this region.
