i'll send it over to you. >> as you just mentioned hurricane florence is bearing down on the east coast this morning. hundreds of thousand evacuated from vas down to the carolinas. >> we want to show you a live look from wilmington. look at the winds whipping that flag. now the forecast is saying that area is going to get the brunt of the storm. the eye of florence is about 230 miles off the wilmington coast. we he look wind speeds have dropped from 140 miles an hour to 110. it is now a in part because it's moving so slowly, the hurricane is called a once in a lifetime storm with potential to cause historic flooding in the carolinas and mid-atlantic states. officials say it's time to move

connection. you don't go to a random residence. i'm speculating at this point. i'm pretty comfortable there will be a connection between all these players. >> one of sheriff's deputies confronted a gunman at that home, he killed himself. a woman and child in that carjacked vehicle managed to escape. board of appeals reversed an earlier appeal and will now allow the removal of a statute. it depicts a native american sitting on the ground. critics say the statue is a symbol of oppression that represents california american history from a euro-american point of view. and it's a ten-second ad running at b.a.r.t. stations that says, simply, history matters, but it's the historical

wall street is indicated to open higher this morning. the dow and s&p 500 eked out a gain yesterday amid report of potential new trade talks between china and u.s. on today's watch list, reports on unemployment and consumer prices. the dow closing up 27 points to 25998, nasdaq slipping. this news may have been lost in all the product announcement at apple's iphone event yesterday but the company will no longer ship a free headphone dongle with your free phone. they had included the jack with the 10, 8, 8 plus, 7 and 7 plus. it will now be sold for $9.

and tesla is pushing to deliver a record number of vehicles by the end of the month to potentially achieve a profitable quarter. that spike is causing frustration for some customers as it's now taking longer for tesla's customer service to respond to problems. elon musk says it'sow top priority to resolve that issue. >> he's got a lot. thank you very much. americans love to splurge and a new study by bankrate.com finds we're nearly spending $3,000 a year on financial vices such as eating out. 38% of people who say they dine out at restaurants or buy takeout, at least three times a week. so, those lottery tickets also a big splurge. this among lower income households. 28% play the lottery at least once a week. >> holding on to hope there. 4:41. coming up next on today in the

we have beautiful weather across the bay area. here's a shot to go, wow, as we take a live look outside over san francisco, a few low clouds rolling by. you can see them moving across the shot with all the city lights and clear skies overhead. the seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen as we step out the door to the temperatures in the upper 50s. morgan hill the coolest at 50 degrees. in antioch we'll see a few clouds. temperatures in the upper 50s as you start out the day. at 10:00 we're seeing temperatures at 64 degrees. it's going to be another day like yesterday. kind of during the afternoon when it cooled off. it's going to be breezy and only seeing those highs. reaching up to 73 degrees in san jose. keep in mind that normally we're up to 81 degrees. we're not going to be that warm. looking at the nice little taste of fall in morgan hill reaching 75 degrees. looking at the east bay, pittsburgh, 77 for the high.

danville reaching 79 degrees. oakland, 66 today. 60 in half moon bay. 59 in daley city. san mateo reaching 67. the embarcadero up to 63 degrees. for the north bay, we're going to see those highs mostly in the mid to upper 70s. as we get dressed this morning, because of the cooler air, especially to start out the day, grab a need that to keep you comfortable and also some pants, maybe jeans that will be comforwe'r seeing the deck of s high clouds moving across the bay area because of this trough that's ushered inlerir across the bay area. so, that's going to keep it partly to mostly cloudy for at least the first part of the day. still shining through those high clouds made of ice crystals. our high temperatures today reaching into the upper 70s. more of the same tomorrow. still really nice on saturday. heading into next week we return to some more seasonable weather

with highs in the low 80s for san francisco. it's still going to be brisk today with those winds. looking at mid-60s for the weekend. mike, you have an update on the situation in hayward. >> a number of things going on. overall the sensors are showing green, but 880 southbound through hayward, that's the problem. less red now, orange and yellow. it's cleared lanes. there was construction going on, both directions overnight. and there was a crash, sounds like someone had an injured leg as a result of a crash. someone drifted into a cone zone. no major injuries. not enough to delayt reopening. everything is clearing now. south 880 at tennyson, a little activity on the shoulder passing by the san mateo bridge may be a little slow. getting to the dunbar ton bridge, you may have slowing as well. it looked like the on-ramp because fremont police are handling this situation. that usually indicates city streets. the slower drive may be just off 880 but by the time they get to

the done bunbarton bridge. we're looking at all these folks with headlights under the university overcrossing. that's berkeley. >> wow, that looks pretty crowded out there already. thank you. happening today in san jose, the deadline for people living in a south bay homeless camp, state authorities expect to clear them out later today. the camp called hope city is at russ drive, just south of the airport. big tents there. each houses up to ten people with access to showers and clean water. but there's growing support for the community that popped up not too long ago because it's actually on state land. the state will have the final say. meantime, san t old city hallnt comnity. there's one problem.

the top county executive is against the idea. jeff smith took us inside the old city hall to illustrate his point, saying that it's not designed for people to live in because there are verment, pests and water damage. the final decision will be made on september 25th. it's 4:50. the trouble millennium tower could soon be yellow-tagged. san francisco inspectors have given managers of the tower until the end of the week to make safety improvements or else access to the building could be limited. an investigation is under way as to why a window on the 36th floor cracked. the crack has inspectors concerned. they want an overhead protection system installed around the perimeter of the building too protect pedestrians from any potential falling glass. the city also wants the tower to repair a broken window washing crane so inspectors can inspect the window from the outside.

sfo. a lot of people are talking about the fact they flew coach. according to blogger trump junior ordered a soda and was recently heckled. guilfoyle is the ex-wife of gavin newsom and host at fox news. with california's open enrollment set to begin this fall, a new report shows an historic amount of californians have health insurance. the uninsured rate dropped 10%, the largest decline in the country by far. more than 3.7 million people have duaned health insurance coverage in california over the past four years. colin kaepernick is making headlines again, but there is nothing controversy about the latest news. >> being inducted into his high school hall of fame. pittman is about 90 minutes east of the bay area.
