once the explosions began .. "columbia gas of massachusetts" quickly ordered everyone to evacuate immediately. it may take days or even weeks for investigators to figure out an exact cause. the gas line explosions in massachusetts will likely remind many in the bay area of the gas line explosions likely remind you of the bay area's deadly pg&e pipeline explosion in san bruno. that killed eight people eight years ago this month. the city's former mayor says elected officials back east need to bring people together quickly. >> you have to get your community together as soon as possible and tell them what you t have all the answers but we're with them hand in hand. >> the me massachusetts to get to the bottom of what happened and why and to work to make sure change

again. a major announcement from san jose catholic diocese on the long running sex abuse scandal. bishop patrick mcgraw will release the name of any priest credibly accused of abusing mineors. he hopes releasing the namgz will help victims heal and also believes it will encourage those who have not spoken out to come forward. one victim we spoke with is hopeful the bishop will follow through but has his reservations. >> you teach to us go to confession to confess our sins and move on, well, you know, when are you going to do your part, you know, and here is an opportunity for them to practice what they preach. >> bthe bishop plans to release the names by next month. stabbing and killing 18-year-old nia wilson an an oakland b.a.r.t. platform expected to appear in court. john lee cowell is expected to enter a plea accused of attacking nia and her sister in july and also faced an attempted murder charge for stabbing wilson's sister who survived. today is the final day of the climate action summit in san francisco. here is something we've never seen. governor brown signing new laws aboard a ferrien tiry on the ba. >> the bill he signed are aimed at continuing the state's fight against climate bay. sergio quintana has details. >> reporter: to keep with the theme of the clean energy bills he signed into law the governor first hybrid powered ferry in the city, he sailed into san francisco bay to sign more than a dozen bills into law with the city and the sun setting at his

demonstrators blocked an entrance next to the civic center saying the solutions proposed at the summit are too little too late. >> we don't have that kind of time. we had ten years ten years ago. >> reporter: for brown the summit and environmental bills mark some of his final chap terse as governor. a warning from gilroy police where a man was seen exposing himself to two young girls in the area of hannah and ninth streets near glenville elementary school. he offered money for sex and ordered the children in his car. fortunately a neighbor stepped in and stopped everything before it happened but the man off. police are asking for help finding him. >> that was not the man. this is the man for the next story who operates a vallejo-based charity has ban rested. investigators say brian rosenthal, who is on your screen now tried to meet up with a 14-year-old girl through social media. he was arrested in san francisco. police say a check of his cell

phone revealed rosenthal was having explicit chats with other underaged girls. someone setting cars on fire in contra costa county and in one incident things turned nearly deadly. neighbors in antioch are on edge following a string of arsons. multiple fires have been set over the past few weeks and in one case a fire spread to a nearby apartment, it trapped a woman and her 8-year-old granddaughter inside. >> i opened my front door to discover that the hood of my car was completely on fire. my granddaughter and i literally had to run through fire bare feet to escape. >> fire investigators are working with police to figure out if the cases are linked and who is behind him. it is coastal cleanup day tomorrow and tens of thousands of volunteers are ready, going to scour beaches, creeks and parks for litter in san mateo county, just to name a few. the more than 30 cleanup events last from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

now futures are pointing to a slightly higher open. markets were helped by apple hweek. investors were also encouraged as fears tempered by benign data we got on consumer prices. today we'll be watching for reports on retail sales, import prices and consumer sentiment. the dow closing up 147 points to 26,145. the nasdaq rising 49 to 8013. tesla general motors has activated features in florence super charging on older cars and unlocking extra battery capacity on certain vehicles. gm activated itsnstacrisis assist for owners with the built-in feature. drivers will have access to real time information to help find evacuation routes or navigate through disaster zones and find important resources such as hotels, gas and food. amazon's ceo jeff bezos says

the company will announce the decision where it will build its second headquarters before the end of the year. he made the comments during a speech in washington last night. he claimed that they still haven't made a final decision internally. didn't drop any hints. amazon previously identified 20 finalists in north america for its planned investments of $5 billion, and that new headquarters expected to bring 50,000 jobs. scott and laura, that is a highly anticipateed annound ann. after 70rs ofhe beetle the iconic car will go out in next year. style through 2019. volkswagen will celebrate the beetle's legacy and will release final edition models. the company says there are no plans to replace the beetle. coming up next on "today in the bay," kari hall with a look at our local forecast, plus

she's monitoring what's happening with hurricane florence. >> yes and the new advisory from the national hurricane center came out and the eye is about to make landfall near wilmington beach. we'll continue to monitor that, as we look at some much more quiet weather at home, palo alto looking nice and temperatures today will be in theed any 60s for t -- mid-60s for the middle of the afternoon. 101 through san jose you see the light volume of traffic. i'll give you a bigger look at the south bay, an update for the east bay slowing and new report for the north bay as well.

welcome back on this friday morning. certainly the west coast weather is so much better than the east coast. we continue to keep our eye on the hurricane and of course in our own town of san francisco in the bay area. have you seen this the nfl cincinnati bengals held a pre-game rally, at a nursing home. they got them roaring there, up and dancing. look at her go. >> yeah! >> 95-year-old irma. >> she's on the left. >> showing off our dazzling moves, even got the attention of cornerback dre kirkpatrick on the right. the two robbcked a little bit. ♪ go irma, go irma >> i'm rooting for the bengals.

i don't know who they're playing this weekend. >> i want irma on the team. who needs the bengals? >> they stopped after they finished shooting that because they didn't want dre to get hurt. >> she is busting a move. i have hope to be like that. i hope to make it to that age. >> goals. >> yes. let's get a look at our weather. looks really good for the bay area. as you get ready to step out the door here is a live look outside in san jose. we'll see a few clouds moving in. the south bay seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. as we look at our temperatures for east san jose in the neighborhood of evergreen we'll see partly cloudy skies starting out today, temperatures in the low 50s. it will be cool to wear a jacket starting out and at noon much more comfortable, all clear skies and about 68 degrees. highs today reaching up to 75 and upper 70s for the inland areas. these temperatures pretty much matching yesterday. so if you loved yesterday's weather, i think you'll really

like today, too. it's going to be breezy and as you're getting dressed this morning, long sleeves will probably keep you comfortable at least for the start of the day and don't forget the sunglasses, and as we make weekend plans we still have the cupertino carnival happening and a funny bit with the family to check out our temperatures reaching the low 70s there, so it's going to be very comfortable or if you'll be wrapping up the weekend maybe you'll be headed toward the contra costa greek food and wine festival. sunday temperatures reaching up to 75 degrees, so still really comfortable. now i wanted to give you an update on hurricane florence once again, wind speeds at 90 miles per hour. the initial part of the eye wall is getting ready to cross into wilmington egor 1 hurricane moving very slowly. only at about 6 that's the reason why this i going to cause a lot of rain and start to dip a little bit to the

south, so our friends and family in south carolina also watching this very closely as this will gradually weaken to a tropical storm over the next few days. lot of flooding likely, and rainfall totals may reach anywhere from 20 to 30 inches, and also the storm surge really piling up that water along the coast, so we are going to see that going into the rivers and inlets and causing more flooding for the inland areas. we will have more updates on that, and then as we look at our inland forecast, seven-day forecast looks really nice and tomorrow slightly cool we are highs in the low 70s. next week not much of a change. seeing really comfortable and fall-like and san francisco in the 60s. mike now you're watching three spots? >> watching three spots. don't be too worried, folks. overall the green know your commiso lanes are clear. i guess that would be the fourth shot i'm watching because the

first is the south bay with the look of silicon valley. i promised you you'd have a wider view and it's all green. over here this is all green as well, west 80 coming down through hercules. chp and cal trans have to give us the all clear but the sensors just turned to green so the overnight grinding and paving work is cleared. little more slowing now past golden gate field, this may be another crew traveling through the area or this crew held up as they get out of the roadway. slowing at golden gate bridge the live camera didn't show anything but i'll double check. what also showed up was fog in the north bay. i said there was no highway 37 through novato and couldregister as well. see the trans america building.

smooth all the way tthebridge. developing this morning another twist in the case of president trump's former campaign manager paul manafort has reportedly reached a tentative deal with robert mueller to plead guilty on charges of money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent. >> what does that mean for president trump? >> reporter: today a possible plea deal with potential implications for the president of the united states. >> mueller isn't going to be willing to make a deal with manafort unless manafort can give him the goods on donald trump. >> he is evaluating all of his options at thispoin manafort reportedly pleading guilty for failing to register as a foreign lobbyi and mon seycial counsel robert mueller's investigation. >> it's hard to imagine agreement that doesn't involve some cooperation. >> the special counsel would be well served by his cooperation

because he knows a lot about russia collusion as alleged against the president of the united states. >> reporter: since manafort's first conviction last month the president publicly distanced himself from his one-time campaign chair. >> i feel very sad about that. it doesn't involve me, but i still feel, you know, it's a very sad thing that happened. >> reporter: president trump's lawyer, rudy giuliani, says a plea deal wouldn't stop the president from pardoning manafort. >> runs afoul of any rational reason that you would pardon someone if they're admitting their guilt. >> reporter: if the deal happens, manafort would be the fourth former trump aide to plead guilty to crimes uncovered during the russia investigation. nikki washington. >> it is 4:51. the developing now, the anticipation growing with strong kavanaugh. senator dianne feinstein turned a letter over to the fbi saying she received information from an

individual about the supreme court nomination of kavanaugh. sources say the letter contains accusations of sexual misconduct against kavanaugh stretching back to his high school days. one source told nbc news the accusations are vague and the individual would have to be more specific. kavanaugh's confirmation vote is set for next week. new this morning, while apple released new iphones, his near sacramento say robbers were at work but officers arrested them. police say the three men tried to steal devices in roseville. they're investigating whether the suspected are connected to a recent string of robberies in the bay area. you remember the one that happened in burlingame about two weeks ago. you can see a group of men ran into the store, pulled $50,000 worth of iphones and laptops off the display and ran away. police say more than five bay area apple stores have been hit in the past month. cal trans now hiring looking to

early on this "today in the bay," friday morning. taking a live look outside overlooking palo alto. not a lot of folks on the roadways. we'll check the morning commute with mike coming up. 4:56. nbc bay area responds to a san jose man who said an auto detailer wasn't paying enough detailer in his promise to detail his car. >> chris chmura's team helped clean up the problem. >> roy vaughn loves his 2015 cadillac srx and wants to keep it looking new. he bought the luxury desantis from a dealer in fremont and also prepaid $560 to get two detailing services each other five years. ron says a finance rep. promised him free use of a courtesy car each time a loaner. the first five times he got the courtesy vehicle no questions asked but the sixth time he was told no. the dealer would no longer honor
