traffic flow, slowing from fremont through newark and the east bay, facebook a band mark over there, nice light drive through palo alto. the south bay shows a little build as well and i want to show you the quick look at the golden gate bridge, lower clouds hovering around the area. kari, i saw the zipper truck it went across there, that's about 50 minutes late so we have lanes prepared for the morning commute. >> friday light maybe? here is an update on hurricane florence. we continue to give you more updates oen this as it has just made landfall this morning, as a category 1 hurricane, in wilmington, north carolina. here is a look at the storm right now, we've deployed our storm ranger from our philadelphia station, and we are getting live updates of what the rain bands are looking like, as this storm continues to make its way inland, and it's producing a very high storm surge. we can see the rain bands and so
6:02 am
far, as we are getting the winds shifting, we are getting some calmer weather right in the middle of that eye near wilmington right now and this may be the opportunity for search and rescue to help people that may be stranded. right now wind speeds downgraded to 85 miles per hour, as it moves inland, and the forward speed of this storm just so slow, moving west-southwest at 6 miles per hour, we may see this kind of jogging back and forth as it makes its way inland as it interacts with that land that may drag that storm into different directions over the next couple of days, but this will be over parts of north carolina, moving into south carolina for today, tomorrow, and on sunday. so this will be a long duration rain event that will cause a lot of problems, and here's a look at some of our top wind speeds we've measured this morning around those areas, cape lookout 106 miles per hour, just unimaginable wind speeds and peak wind gusts. wilmington 105 and davis

6:05 am
and that number will grow. as the massive storm lingers. >> this is enormously dangerous. >> reporter: meandering along the shoreline and dumping rain for another 36 to 48 hours here. >> unfortunately it looks like we're really just at the beginning of what's going to be a long, very difficult time for a lot of people, really from virginia through the carolinas. >> that was jay gray reporting. 6:05 right now. the california air national guard on the way to help. members of moffit's 129th rescue wing loaded gear and helicopter into a c-17 last night and flew to the east coast overnight, they are specially trained in rescuing people by helicopter. >> unfortunately, if everyone doesn't get out, you may see people on roofs with help signs and things like that, so the goal is just to get as close as possible and be ready to go. >> the citizen airmen deployed last year to hurricanes harvey and irma. bay area locals flew there,
