"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in concord with new video just coming into our newsroom. this is a brazen incident right here. >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. brazen indeed. as you mentioned this robbery taking place during store hours. we're standing here on willow pass road at this t-mobile. the gates are down because the ste closed and as i mentioned it happened during store hours. we want to show you some of the video from last night. this is new video we're getting, actually after it all took place. now according to concord police it happened just before 8:00 p.m. there were customers inside while all this happened. the three suspects walked in,

stealing up to $6,000 worth of products. so we're talking about phones and tablets inside of this t-mobile store. now as you guys mentioned, there is surveillance video but police are currently reviewing it at this time. as far as the suspects they're looking for, three adult males that were wearing hoodies, described as being six feet tall, one of them has long hair and they're able to get away in a green honda sedan. crews did speak with a worker at another phone store in this shopping complex in concord. here's what they had to say about this specific issue. >> we're seeing a lot of smash and grabs, seeing the apple stores losing a lot of product, and it is worrisome to have this kind of crime and see not so much prosecution and apprehension of these criminals. >> reporter: now we've seen these types of incidents not too far from here in walnut creek, also in the north bay, in the peninsula, as well as the south bay. we'll break all of those incidents down in the next hour.

we're live here in concord, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> seems like every week we're doing one of the stories. it is 5:05. continuing coverage of a deputy shot and killed in sacramento county. mark stasok died in a shoot-out at a pep boys auto store. it happened yesterday afternoon in rancho cordova. two deputies responded to a disturbance call but did not know the suspect was armed. when they got there, he started shooting. both deputies were hit, as well as a bystander and the suspect. deputy stasok the only one who did not survive, was just 27 years old. at 5:06 right now and continuing coverage of florence as it continues to wreak havoc and likely do so more for many days there. the number of dead this morning stands at 31, and here's what folks in that region are dealing with there. you can take a look at the massive funnel cloud. this is hovering you see right

there over that area in virginia yesterday as remnants of florence moved through that area. someone took video from a plane there as you can see it landing there and the funnel cloud in the distance, as that was landing there at the airport. another tornado touched down in richmond, virginia. take a look at this. >> oh my god! >> look at it right there, rip up all of that there. cell phone video captured that twister shearing that off, that roof there, and you can see that debris flying through the air. tornado was spotted outside of the universe of richmond. people say that they had just minutes to take cover. >> we were looking out the windows and you could literally see it circular motion all the leaves and this stuff, and we knew yeah, we got to get in the closet and that's what we did. >> as for flooding in the carolinas, there's plenty of it and some of those areas are still inaccessible because they're cut off by floodwaters. a new video for you this morning of a team of east bay

firefighters, that's in the carolinas there, helping with rescues. this is video from the alpha team, as they are called rescuing two national guardedmen and other people in eight feet of water. they have busy. yesterday they rescued 30 people in six hours including rescuing the woman and her dog there. they're doing great work out there, keep it up. the man convicted in the high-profile kidnapping of a vallejo woman after drugging her and her boyfriend in their home to face state charges. matthew mueller was sentenced to 40 years for kidnapping denise hoskins in 2015. he was convicted on federal charges. yesterday he pleaded not guilty to six state charges that could lead to a life sentence. the case was so bizarre. vallejo police originally called it a hoax. investigators arrested mueller after a separate kidnapping attempt. the couple sued the police department and settled for $2.5

million. happening today, you've seen them from the south bay to san francisco. now more bay area cities will get in on the dockless transportation band wagon. in san francisco the talk is turning to possible expansion of the number of dockless bikes on the streets. right now the company jump offers 250 ewycs in the city, but it is aiming to double that, increasing the number to 500. sfmta will take a vote on the potential increase during its board meeting later today. just last night, oakland moved forward with its own plans for scooters. companies are now required to apply for a permit to operate, getting a permit will require, among other things, providing safety information for riders. local maintenance teams to also make sure those bikes are not in the right-of-way of residents and providing discounted memberships to low income communities. right now at 5:09, grab your coffee or tea to help keep you warm this morning. temperatures are starting out cool in spots. down to 48 degrees in morgan

hill. san jose 52 and 51 in livermore. as we get a look at your transit forecast heading to diridon station in san jose it will be a morning with temperatures staying in the low 50s through about 7:00 and a few clouds in the mix but then everything cl to 10:00, and then our temperatures start to warm up. we'll be up to 67 degrees at noon. if you plan on going hiking on some of our east bay hiking trails, it's going to be a nice one, and no matter what time you get out there during the day, we'll have some comfortable temperatures. we'll get a look at our microclimates and a very hot spike in temperatures for the next couple days. that's coming up. mike, sop help me help at the b bridge? >> the one tow truck we saw shot by a lane had to go out, make a turn around and come back and then just arrived behind that disabled vehicle at the toll plaza. so that's good news for cash lane number two, hov lanes are moving j f had, that has also cleared, that is right on time, so once we are able to get that

clouds and fog. things are clear this morning as you head across the golden gate bridge, and as you get ready to head out and go for a workout around brentwood or on your way out to the gym, it's cold out there, only 53 degrees at 7:00, and 56 degrees at 8:00. once the sun rises, we get a few hours of daylight. it's going to start to feel really nice, up to 68 degrees at lunch time, and then if you're on your way out the door heading to the dublin b.a.r.t. station, much cooler there, 51 degrees at 7:00, and we've had the cool mornings making it feel like fall, and then our high temperatures have been staying on the low side as well. in the south bay we're normally up to 80 degrees. we're going to be at 76 degrees in san jose, so just a few degrees below normal. gilroy reaching 78 degrees and for the east bay, some mid to upper 70s, livermore nice at 73 degrees, and 68 degrees in san mateo. san francisco keeping it breezy, only reaching into the mid-60s today in the mission district

and mid-70s today in novato and check out the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. you'll see how things will change over the next few days. we have a pretty good marine layer, you can tell by the clouds that are really not moving because it's fog, and it's right along the immediate coastline that will start to build as we head through the morning. as we head all the way over toward the east coast, these are the remnants of what was tropical storm florence and now a depression has weakened and we're seeing a lot of rain being brought up toward the n england area as the cold front moves through there. we'll continue to watch the rain fall for the east coast. we continue on with dry weather here. look how hot, temperatures spiking up to 92 degrees for the inland valleys thursday and comicom coming down in time for the weekend. mike you have the problem at the bay bridge? >> good news, the disabled, arms akimbah, they're like this, when we're perplexed.

i was worried, the car was cleared and metering lights should turn on in the next couple of minutes. no problems with folks feeding in through the areas but this right there, still a little bit of slowing registering, continues to clear, the crew cleared west 580 around highway 13. the south bay peninsula no delays except for slowing i see right now on university between the dumbarton bridge and 101. there may be a crew moving over there. crews position themselves for you for the morning commute or funnishing up overnight construction, 84, a lot more slowing a half hour ago that cleared and the arrows show you where we expect the build over the next half hour, 40 minutes and that will be the case tri valley and east bay not a problem. no problems for transit either. good stuff on the rails. there's b.a.r.t. with 44 trains now on time and no delays for any of these other agencies, and the ap transit, they have wifi on a lot of their buses so you can get to work and watch us all the way to work. we'll send it back to you. >> take us with you on the road.

police believe he's installed a skimming machine in may or even june, then used stolen information to withdraw money from different bank accounts in fremont. a bailout for schools in oakland. yesterday governor jerry brown signed the education trailer bill to give cash to school districts in need. oakland unified is one of them, according to "the chronicle" the district will be short $90 million over the next two years. the state will cover a majority of that amount but the district will have to meet certain standards. the district says that it will still have to make the budget cuts. of course, now this comes just a few months after the fiscal crisis, and management assistance team found that oakland schools misused federal and state funds. a new push kids. the american academy of pediatrics is calling for gender affirming health care, saying there needs to be formal training, standardized treatment and a lot more research. the policy statement risks amon,

it's going to feel more like summerr days. li mo our temperatures go50 f at 7:00 to all clearing out at a very nice afternoon, heading up to 71 degrees, which will be much cooler than normal, as you get the kids up and ready for school this morning, in danville, the school day forecast shapes up with a very chilly start, only 51 degrees, as you're walking to school, but very nice, 71, when that last school bell rings. now mike, you've got a short change going on. >> big change going on. the bay bridge, wadku over at the toll plaza, just a few minutes ago, 15 minutes ago it was completely clear and then 15 minutes later, 18 lanesslow, because the hov lanes are moving well. don't be alarmed, the flashing lights are oversized rigs. it means there's a payload there and you have to be careful on either side of the lanes. they should getou i've seen it happen before but

"today in the bay's" bob redell is outside of livermore high school. what does the note say exactly? >> reporter: not clear, marcus. according to livermore police, some students found a handwritten note in one of the restrooms here at livermore high school, and that note made some sort of direct threat against the campus. it was not signed. it was anonymous, according to the school administration. the school superintendent did

this evening there is no credible threat to our campus. as a precaution, however, they're expected to have more police officers at the school. the school will have a strong and visibility adult presence on campus today. full disclosure, my daughter attends lhs, will be going to class today. she knows one of her friends, though, who is so concerned about her safety or her parents are, she won't be going to school and my daughter has a handful of other friends who indicated on social media posts they'd be skipping as well. yesterday in concord, police investigated student reports that someone threatened on social media to shoot people at clayton valley charter high school but officers were never able to find anyone who saw that post or knew who created it online and over the weekend, pittsburg police investigated a threat made online gets pittsburg country but determined is not to be a credible threat. the fbi is set to announce later today at about a new public awareness campaign to stop people from making false threats

police say hasib golamrabbe shot and killed both his mother and father at their home in so he's evergreen neighborhood in 2016. as we reported earlier this month, he recent decided to represent himself. at the time he attended school at san jose state university. authorities initially charged his younger brother, but later cleared him due to insufficient evidence. we all know we have a major housing crisis right here in the bay area. so it is a big day for affordable housing in the city of cupertino, where developers have a new plan for the old valco mall but with more housing comes the potential of crowdinc are saying no thanks. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live in coup toe tee know. kris, how many homes are we talking about here? >> reporter: well, laura, even if you don't live in cupertino, we know folks have been to valco mall or driven past it. it is huge. it's a massive building and a massive property so you can only imagine how big that development deal might be as well. let's take a look at what's on the table. you were asking how many units

much housing, we're talking about 2,000 residential housing units, 600,000 square feet of commercial space, 750,000 feet of office space, 339 hotel rooms and six acres of open space. these numbers could increase more if cupertino changes its rules regarding housing density. the three-story mall is a ghost town with a handful of businesses still open. the developer sam hill is putting forward the plan it says it will provide housing for all income levels in a transit oriented neighborhood with open space accessible for all cupertino residents. some residents say this is just too much too fast, in particular, the grassroots group better cupertino promises to challenge any plan that the city council approves today. this is a test of senate bill intended to force cities to build more housing and more affordable housing as well so a lot of communities all around the bay area are watchinghaates kris. finding a parking spot may become a little more tricky in

one campbell neighborhood at least if you don't live in that area. city council members vote on a pilot program, a parking pilot program for rosemary neighborhood. that's near campbell moreland pony baseball field bordering san jose. neighbors from some 145 homes there complained to the city that drivers from outside of the neighborhood are parking there overnight and sometimes for days on end. if the council moves forward, drivers will need a permit during overnight hours. i feel the pain, when my mom comes to visit she can't park in front of our us across the bay,thing across the brid the bay bridge itself is where the backup is over there in oakland because the metering lights are on. little bit of slowing for 84, but no major concern. when i zoom in over here, 680 north toward mission right here, either mission north or south, i'm not sure which one right in this area watching for slowing. there was a crash reported, chp

should arrive shortly. i'll update that one. getting toward the bay bridge a smooth flow of traffic here your travel times on the east shore freeway only 17 minutes, a great drive right now. the backups at the bay bridge toll plaza, the golden gate bridge not showing a problem. we can see the lights across the span. the tower we can now see is cut off at the top, some low clouds getting through the area. not a problem for the drivers. >> there you go. we're just fine, cruising through our week already, looking forward to the weekend. >> the weekend is almost here, and looking nice, too. >> it's going to be a great weekend, especially after we get k at the way the weather. week shae go from 76 rolls o 92 on thursday. around, we'll be at 83 degrees for inland valleys and 80 degrees on sunday, and in san francisco, it will also stay nice and comfortable with some mid-60s throughout the weekend. of course, those early clouds. if you're making plans to head up to lake shasta it's going to

5:57 right now. turning to our investigative unit, when you get into annow w really behind the wheel? nbc baydergund market that lets people rent ride share accounts. >> which allows them to drive without being vetted. investigative reporter liz wagner shows us the scam that's putting a lot of passengers at risk. >> reporter: we found a few online groups where we saw dozens of ads to rent ride share driver accounts, so we put down 150 bucks for a lift account. we never drove, but the account history shows cars giving rides to plenty of passengers. the scheme allows renters to swap in their own selfie and car information and drive as someone else. it's all phony, but the name and driver's license number on the account belongs to a real person, this guy. turns out his identity was stolen and used to create the account. lyft says what's being described is extremely concerning.
