4:31 am
drops and those winds pick up. look at our highs through the south bay reaching up to 90 in gilroy. we'll look ahead to the rest of the week coming up. vianey any issues on the roads? >> not just yet. monday morning is early bird gets the wormt. smooth commute throughout the bay area. couple slow spots in the south bay but it looks like it's typical kind of slowing down in terms of that area, no major accidents, and in through the peninsula into the city we're expecting to see a nice smooth commute at least for now. take a look at how the bay bridge toll plaza is doing. we're starting to see slowing. the metering lights are not on yet but seeing slight delays through the cash lanes. the fast lanes are your best option. no metering lights on just yet, a slight slowing on the bay bridge. >> good to note, thank you very much. developing now, a second woman coming forward and accusing supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. she is telling the "new yorker"
4:32 am
that kavanaugh drunkenly exposed himself to her at a college party. details of that accusation came out late yesterday. >> hundreds came together in palo alto to show their support for dr. christine blasey ford. >> reporter: they came armed with candles and conviction. >> who do we believe? >> blasey! >> reporter: the message, we believe dr. ford. the palo alto mother and professor accused supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh of sexual assault in high school, an allegation he denies. craig kaplan says dr. ford helped him land a job. >> i know she's tell the truth and i want to hear it. >> reporter: ford has received death threats. her community wants her to know they appreciate her sacrifices including 14-year-old day in a sauter of palo alto. >> it's extremely brave. not something she had to do but chose to do it to help other people and get her voice out.
4:33 am
>> reporter: many people are here to support the second woman who has come forward of allegations of sexual misconduct against kavanaugh. >> it's not surprising, frankly, i think a lot of times these behaviors are patterns in individuals. i think that i admire this woman's courage. >> reporter: a very visible show of solidarity and support for all sexual assault survivors. >> and that was marianne favro reporting from palo alto. we're live with the latest from washington in 30 minutes. the kavanaugh confirmation battle comes midweek before elections. new poll shows democrats may have an advantage over republicans. 52% of registered voters want a democratic controlled congress. however, the same poll shows that republican enthusiasm about the election is increasing. right now, it's about even with democrats. one thing many peo economy. 70% of voters say they are
4:34 am
satisfied with the economy. back here at home it's a sight that's becoming all too familiar in the bay area. i feel like i say these stories all the time, but there's been another grab-and-go at an apple store. several men walked into the store at the santa rosa plaza mall yesterday, grabbed multiple devices. you can see them running out of the store with all those items in their hands. this map shows just how widespread these crimes are becoming. six other bay area apple stores are targeted by thieves in the past month including another store in santa rosa. >> 4:34. 49ers quarterback jimmy garoppolo goes under an mri today. this comes after injuring his knee during yesterday's game against the kansas city chiefs. late in the game garoppolo scrambled toward the sidelines when it appeared his knee gave way. this is before being hit as you see right there. he was carted off of the fie ldhead coach kyle shanahan says that doctors fear jimmy g. tore his acl and

4:38 am
4:39 am
good morning. i'm eric from cnbc global headquarters. wall street could open in the red this morning, after the u.s. and china boast a fresh round of tariffs on billions of dollars on each other's imports. most asian markets including china were closed today for a holiday. europe is lower this morning. economists worn a long trade will hurt the u.s. and china and global growth. also watch list new home sales andonfidence prices and the fed holds a two-day
4:40 am
meeting widely expected to hike interest rates. on friday the dow closed up 86 points to 26,743, a new record high. so what's on the new list of u.s. and chinese tariffs? smart devices like the apple watch and fitbit trackers are exempt but the modems, routers and internet gateways that make the devices work are not so lucky. chinese products hit with new tariffs include vacuum cleaners, seafood and certain produce and tobacco. u.s. foods targeted by beijing include coffee and airplanes. tesla is determined to move as many vehicles as it can before the latest quarter ends, saving you the customer making the trip to get your new car. the company launched a door-to-door service bringing the model 3 directly to customers jars to their homes a offices for free. the service is being billed on a first come first serve basis. >> that's a good option since a. >> still waiting at their house. thanks a lot.
4:41 am
4:40 right now. is your drive time from the office getting you down to and from, no matter what you're driving? nearly a quarter of workers say they've quit a job due to a bad commute. people in san francisco, new york, chicago and miami have resigned most often for that reason. 40% say their travel has improved over the past five years, more than one in five say the trip has gotten worse. 60% say their company hasn't taken steps to ease the burden. >> we hear about that from a lot of people in the newsroom. coming up here on "today in the bay," 4:41 right now. ckari has been tracking the nic and cool temperatures. >> it was nice and cool over the weekend, but it's about to get hotter across the bay area. that was our little break. here is a live look outside in san jose, as we go to santa clara, 52 degrees as you head out the door and some mid-70s by noon. we'll go up even more from there. we'll talk about all of the
4:42 am
microclimates coming up next. >> a live look at the san mateo bridge. the roads are nice and quiet for an early monday morning. i'll have a look at your drive times throughout the bay area coming up. downtown
4:43 am
4:44 am
and good monday morning to you. live look out in san francisco, and it is cool. it looks kind of cold to me. >> oh, get you a blankie.
4:45 am
>> that's the thing we have to deal with though, the cooler temperatures in the morning. >> then the afternoon it gets extremely hot. we have a wide range, just have to be ready for it all. as you step out this morning, you do need a nice warm jacket. here is a live look in oakland this morning where it's going to be a lot more comfortable as we go through the day, all clear skies. the seven-day forecast is coming up in the bottom of the screen, as we talk about a red flag warning in effect and that means there will be critically dry conditions for our hills for the east bay and the north bay, all of these areas shaded in red, that is where we could see any spark turn into a fire that could burn out of control fairly quickly and the reason why is because humidity will only be at about 5% to 10%, and as those winds pick up we may have gusts up to 35 miles per hour today and so you have to be very careful out there. as you head out for your morning drive in martinez, our temperatures will be in the mid-50s through about 7:00, a chilly start and then as the sun comes out, we'll see those
4:46 am
temperatures heating up pretty fast. we're heading into the mid 80s today in the south bay, 92 in antioch and livermore. 90 in concord and napa today 86 degrees and 70 in san francisco. as you get dressed this morning, we talk about the need for a jacket, but the rest of the day it will be comfortable with the t-shirt and shorts, just trying to keep it cool. we do have high pressure and some very warm air, but as we head toward the end of the week we'll have some cooling changes on the way, an area of low pressure will move just to the north of us and that could cause more clouds and possibly a slight chance of rain farther to the north, so we are going to feel a little bit more in the way of cooling, but look at how these temperatures heat u valpy today to 95 degrees on wednesday, and then look at how much cooler it gets for the weekend, only some mid-70s by the end of the weekend, as we look at san francisco, heating up to 78 degrees by wednesday. vianey you've been tracking the
4:47 am
roads this morning and everything looks fairly quiet. >> indeed, but just as i was walking on over here for this report, i did see what looks to be a crash that just popped up near the hayward area, so i am definitely going to look into that. i was going to say the roads are all clear but again, this just popped up, so i will look into that. aside from that the south bay is good, the peninsula is good. headed into san francisco is all good even though it is monday morning. the traffic is expected to build especially as we inch closer toward that 5:00 a.m. hour. as far as a quick look at your south bay drive times, northbound 101 from highway 85 looking at about 19 minutes. northbound 280 from highway 101 to highway 85 about eight minutes and northbound 85 from highway 101 only 20 minutes. i'm going to check out that crash and let you know, an update coming up. >> thank you, 4:47, new concerns about the san francisco department in charge of keeping the city clean. >> we're learning the city has hired a public relations firm that wants to believe san francisco is the cleanest it's been in years. this comes after our
4:48 am
investigative series exposed san francisco's diseased streets. we showed you how parts of downtown were covered with an alarming amount of trash, drug needles and feces. >> senior investigative reporter begad shaaban has a report about your tax dollars. >> reporter: good morning. so just how clean is san francisco? would you say close to spotless? that's what one report found, seriously, and it turns out you footed the bill, because san francisco paid a public relations firm to survey the city, and that firm now wants you to believe the city is pretty much pristine. >> that data is being used to make decisions for the city around cleanliness of sidewalks in neighborhoods. >> reporter: but the reality is, people are stepping over needles and human waste and a pr company you paid says san francisco is spic and span.
4:49 am
>> there are many parts of our city that don't have the things that you are talking about. >> reporter: why is san francisco using your tax dollars to pay a public relations firm? we investigate, tonight at 11:00. >> you can always contact begad or anyone from the investigative unit, 888-996-tips or if it's easier logon to our website nbcbayarea.com/weinvestigate. >> 4:49 right now. the trump administration is getting the pushback over a proposed policy that would penalize immigrants seeking green cards that allows the government to deny green cards to illegal immigrants if they received government assistance such as food stamps, medicaid and section 8 housing vouchers. immigrant advocates say it unfairly punishes people already struggling. the department of homeland security says the rule is "intended to promote immigrant self-sufficiency and promote resources" or protect those resources. santa clara county leaders are commending the proposal which could go into effect in two

months. happening today in fresno the epa holds a hearing session on the trump administration's proposal to roll back car mileage standards. as we've been telling you, the proposal would freeze u.s. mileage standards at levels mandated by the obama administration for 2020, instead of letting them rise to 36 miles per gallon by 2025. the trump administration says they're trying to make vehicles more affordable. today's hearing in fresno is the first of three. a new report in complaints against california law enforcement officers are ruled in officers' nea fy 200,000 complaints filed over the last ten years. only 8% of the cases were ruled against officers. these investigations are being done by the california department of justice. there is a new bill setting on the governor's desk right now that would force internal investigations into police shootings be made public. the happiest place on earth

bureaus charged a fee to freeze your file. >> on average, it takes about 30 hours to unwind identity theft. so you don't want to deal with that. you want to lock your credit down ahead of time. it's really smart to put a freeze in place before problems occur. >> freezing works in three steps. let me help guide you through them. first you contact the credit bureaus and ask for the freeze. then they'll give you a p.i.n. you need to hold onto that, keep it someplace safe. that is your only key to unlock your file and then three, when for a laccount, you thaw your account temporarily, you unlock your credit file with that p.i.n. that's it. it's quick, it's easy and finally, it's free. you can freeze your credit online, the three big credit bureaus set up special web pages for you. we have links to all three at nbcbayarea.com/responds. while you're there, you can send us a news tip or call us. the number is 888-996-tips.
