>> he is at the temporary transit center. this is where the buss are dropping off the passengers this morning. >> reporter: good morning marcus and laura. eventually we will see more the buses doing the dropoffs at the temporary transbay terminal. remember this served as the terminal before the transit center a dumb of minutes down the block there was built. of course they are dealing with the cracked steel beam issue. until that is fixed all the buss are going to be rerouted here to where we are standing, ac transit, west cat at this terminal. muni on the outskirts, those folks are rerouted to this area. i want to give viewers more information on exactly how we got to this point. the transbay joint powers authority had to evacuate the transit center i just showed you yesterday after workers discovered a crack in a steel beam over freemont street. that's part of the support for the ceiling of the bus deck. this morning you are going to have engineers looking at that

beam to determine exactly what caused the crack in the first place. let's go ahead and take you back out here live to this temporary france it center. there are not many buses here obviously this morning. they are saying it should pick up later this morning. we are hoping to get another update from the transbay authorities at some point around noon. live here in san francisco, peter issed a as for today in the bay. >> pete, we will check in with you in the next hour and bob will join us with a live report from the other side of the bay in oakland in about 30 minutes. and mike has the traffic coming up in just a few. we know a lot of people are asking who is going to ask the questions tomorrow when the palo alto professor tells the congress the supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh attacked her. >> what do we know about the prosecutor? >> we know that she has a lot of experience when it comes to

dealing with sexual assault, sexual misconduct, and those types of cases. it's what she has done for her entire career. now she is bringing that experience to washington to apply to this very high-profile case. republicans have hired rachel mitchell a veteran sex crimes prosecutor, fromqution dr. chri ford and judge kavanaugh tomorrow. >> we want the hearing to be handled very professionally. not a political sideshow. >> if they don't trust their own 11 white male republican senators to ask questions without blowing up and they have got to bring in a ringer to cover for them that tells you all you need to know. >> reporter: two other women are making sexual misconduct allegations against the supreme court nominee but neither is set to testify before a vote friday. one is expected to go public today. the other, debra ramirez, claims kavanaugh exposed himself to her in college. her attorneys say she has

live to capitol hill. this is where the hearing will begin tomorrow morning at 6:30 our time, pacific time, and you can watch all of it live right here on nbc bay area, from beginning to end. new this morning, police say some kind of malfunction sent the driver of a volvo off the road and nearly into a freemont home. it happened about 1:00 in the morning on eggers drive. the car slammed into the garage after hitting a car in the driveway. the driver wasn't hurt. everyone in the house was okay. police say the driver was not impaired. this morning authorities are asking for your help in solving a recent deadly shooting in hayward. police say last wednesday night someone found a 48-year-old man near death on fulsome near huntwood avenue. he later died at the scene that man is identified as billy travis, who lived in hayward. police are asking anyone with information to give them a call. new this morning, yet another apple store robbery in

the bay area. this is the seventh case we are covering in the past couple of months. yesterday police say six to eight people stole multiple devices from the store along bay street. police aren't saying whether this case is connected to other recent grab and runs. this is video from the plaza run mall in santa rosa. we have updated the map. we added yesterday's date under berkeley will reportedly no longer post a mug shot or information on people arrested during a protest. the east bay times reports tha information police can post. this follows backlash after an august protest when police posted mug shots of anti-fascist count demonstrators. some of them were later --

san jose state university received a bomb threat yesterday morning. university officials say the threat was phoned in at 9:00 in the morning. campus officials didn't warn students until four hours later. they received a shooting threat this past february. all of those plans for a new ikea store in the heart of the trivalley now appear to be on life support. late last night dublin city planners shut down the op ikea near regal theater. the debate went late into night even though sporters say that store would generate millions of dollars in city revenue. opponents are concerned about the traffic impact. >> traffic is huge. the noise. the pollution. the safety. if you have one accident on dublin boulevard it has created a nightmare for those who have to travel from east to west. >> the project this morning is not completely dead. planners still approved the next step in the process, an

at cnbc global headquarters. here will headlines. wall street is pointed towards a positive open but dow yesterday reraced early gains following tough trade talk from president trump and other administration officials. officials say that could mean a long process to settle trade disputes. the fed wraps up a two day meeting today, it is expected to raise interest rates. the dow yelling calling to 26,492. and the nasdaq rose 14 to 8,007. delta had an incident that briefly disrupted travel across the country. it is unclear how many flights were affected. delta says there were no cancellations and no flights were diverted. delta says the impact on this morning's schedule should be

minimal. uber is overhauling disaster response procedures. in the past uber relied largely on local teams to make decisions about the spending service or capping pricing. now they will be handled by the global security center. uber was criticized for failing to suspend surge pricing during bombing attacks in 2016. and during the paris terrorist attack in 2015. >> nice to know they are truing to turn thing around there. there is a big meeting in washington that may pave the way to new protections when it comes to your data. law enforcement leaders from around the nation yesterday met privately with u.s. attorney general jeff sessions. the california attorney was there coming up with new ways to regulate the way tech companies handle personal information. affecting the way you shop.

target in east contra costa just got hit with a discrimination lawsuit a. deaf man jamd john hayes says he applied for a clerk position at target in antioch. he had an interpreter to communicate over the fine with the hiring team but hayes claims that human resources officials hung up on him twice. he says he never got an interview and antioch hired seven non-disabled people. a college student credits his own interest in it for stumbling on to an unusual fraud scheme involving his lyft account. he studies information technology. a couple of years ago he seeped up for lyft and used it just once but he started receiving numerous phone calls and texts about rides he never ordered. sometimes ten per week. eventually he each phantom rides

a wedding this weekends. they will will some cooler temperatures. we are starting out with low fog and the clouds in san francisco as we start out. and all that mist and drizzle, it will be a cool morning, and keeping it cooler there for the coast. let's head over to cupertino and check out our temperatures for today. at 9:00 we will be at 61 degrees. there we are heading into the mid 80s. so very much like yesterday in some spotsds it will be a couple of degrees warmer. as you step out the door really no change here with some mid 50s on your way to the pleasant hill bart station. we advise you to catch public transit. get up earlier and out the door earlier and plan accordingly to make it to work on time. temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s at lunchtime. at 3:00 at 8 is in pleasant hill. is it a bad hair day? it is time for the frizz factor forecast n. san jose it is still feeling a little bit humid this

morning and our high temperature is heading into the i had in 80s. fairly dry but i would say give ate little bit of hair spray because we have some coastal fog and drizzle especially for the coastal areas in san francisco. but it will be a dry afternoon. so overall, a pretty good hair day. our highs reaching into the mid 90s for morgan hill. 90 in easan still going to be h in mill paid as today. 95 in danville. and 85 today in freemont. with also 85 in palo alto. the embarcadero reaching 68 degrees. and some mostly upper 80s for a lot of the north bay. if you can, make it a beach day. it's going to be so nice in santa cruz this afternoon with a lot of us dealing with some hot weather. it will be comfortable there with highs staying in the 70s. mike, you spotted a blip in san jose? what's going on. >> mostly green. bottom of the screen i spotted

red and orange. cal transhas a crew finishing work south said 87 approaching the 85. they are clearing out and that congestion will clear. thet maze and the bay bridge, the crowd is growing at the bay bridge toll plaza. the lights should be turned on any second. this is reported eastbound getting away from san francisco and at treasure island the exit there, that's where a disabled vehicle should be able to exit. off the skyway, concerns, slowing around the transbay transit center. the new one is closed and the old temporary one is now the new temporary one. we have crews on the scene base of the structural issue over at at the transit center. moss coney continues to be closed because of dream force

the transbay transit center is shut down and the surrounding roads will be obviously shut down and make it difficult to drive in. they are recommends you take public transit like bart out of west oakland or car pool, a casual car pool out of east bay or taking ubers or taxis. right now it's 5:30 in the morning we have been asking people are you a regular rider? most are regular riders. if we e in the people who are not driving today and are decide og take bart, we are not seeing it right now. maybe later this morning. it is a spare the air alert day. and because the transit center is shut down once you get off freemont bridge you are going to hit a roadblock at howard. that's going to cause a lot of congestion. they are trying to limit the cars going into the city and asking you to take bart, ac transit, uber, or other ride sharing. our coverage on the transbay

transit center closures continues all morning. you can stay up to date with us on ourfree nbc bay area app. this is another 680 in san jose. lanes are closed right now. this is the scene after police say they spotted a possible drunk driver. officers later found that car hit a pole. it seems the passenger was taken away in the ambulance. no word on charges for that driver. of course, we are waiting to get more information for you. it is possible a judge today may set a new trial date for a high-profile murder case on the peninsula. lee and her buy frep are accused of murdering keith green two years ago. police say green was in custody -- or in a custody dispute, rather, with lee, when he disappeared. after his body was found in the north bay police arrested lee in her hillsborough mansion. lee's boyfriend has since cut a

plea deal to testify against her. today's hearing surrounds a possible trial date for lee which likely will not take place before the end of the year. 5:36 right now. the catholic diocese of san jose wants to build a new high school on an open plot of land in morgan hill. but several times, the plan has been shut done by state mandated agency intended to prevent urban sprawl. >> this time the diocese may have a prayer here. today in the bay's kris sanchez is live in morgan hill. chris, this really has been going on forever now. >> reporter: yeah for a lot of folks who live in the south county, southern side of santa clara county, you know the idea of a private high school here, catholic high school was floated about 14 years ago. in the meantime, the diocese bought this wide open farmland. here's a map. murphy to the west, barrett to the north and farmland to the east. it is complicated -- i had to get a civic lesson on this one.

i want to walk you through. the diocese owns the land but can't develop it until it has city services like water and power. in order for that to happen the city has to annex the land that it is bringing into the city limits. approval for annexation can only come from the state mandated agency intended to protect open space, agriculturalland and urban sprawl and promote official service delivery. with those aims in mind they have said no to prior development plans. this time the diocese is proving that annexation is the only way to build a high school because there is no available plot of land within the city big enough for a campus like this one. and because the diocese is committed to preserving agricultural property. >> what we are offer we

want to keep this morgan hill beautiful. what we are offering is a one to one mitigation. for every acreage of lapped that we build for the children and students, we are going the reserve another acre to keep it agricultural. >> when you drive around here as a parent the only thing i can think of is where are all these kids going to go to school? >> reporter: now, a couple weeks ago the morgan stills city council voted to take this plan to the committee once again. they have one more week to make that half. it is due by october 3rd, the deadline. and then the agency will make it up at their december meeting. though they won't comment until they see the plan. in morgan hills, kris sanchez. bart is saying it was doing something you riders may appreciate last night, steam cleaning the strains. sf bart posted this video of the workers cleaning the train last

night. it says it will steam away the grime every night at each yard. dirty trains, well that's one of the biggest complaints against bart along with safety, of course. and of course those bart riders, mike, will have a tough time this morning. there will be some changes goingan. >> potentially. as bob riddel reported from the east bay we may see more ridership because we have been talking about the delays around the transbay transit center because of the closure. we follow the cloesz closure. we follow the impact. right now, no delays for the bart system reported as we look at the roadways mostly green sensors around the bay. toward the san francisco side we have a backup at the toll plaza. coming across the bay, two significant places the moss coney center, a closure on howard for third and fourth. ever since the climate summit they have had that closure. we are adding to the congestion

because the transit center is closed and thereroutes for ac transand it muni. that will add tostreet congesti. fulsome and freemont will also be affected. there is going to be congestion in the area. that congestion is probably going to go in through the weekend. >> we will get an update. >> something you can be happy about, the weekend coming. >> it is coming it and will be cooler for all of us inland who have been suffering in the heat. here's look at those temperatures on saturday. not bad at all. reaching 78 degrees in the valleys. the bay, 71 degrees. and the fog will be back and hanging out a little bit longer for the coast. so those highs reaching into the mid 60s. expect more of the same on sunday. the only issue will be a very slight chance of rain in the north bay. otherwise we are looking at very nice temperatures throughout much of the weekend. how about going to the beach? now keep in mind it will be cooler there. if you are going to the beach

but changes are on the way. look at this. an area of low pressure just off shore will start to move closer and change our wind direction, also force the air to rise. and the way that the pattern will be set up, there will be a chance that this could connect with some tropical moisture all the way across the ocean and bring in a chance of rain for the bay area. at this point, we have seen several runs of the computer models and i think we have a pretty sam darnold solid chance of seeing the moisture from that typhoon rolling all the way across the pacific and making it into the bay area by monday or tuesday of next week. i will have more updates on that. i'm at kari hall on facebook and twitter. more updates as we come down from the peak this heat. really hot today and much nicer for the weekend. some upper 70s. also watching out for a slight chance of rain for the north bay on saturday. very slight chance. a much more better and widespread chance next week.

looks like. without this stuff, an alameda county narcotics detective wouldn't be here today. he nearly died from an accidental overdose from something in the air during a drug bust in june. he spoke with us exclusively. he says he was the first one in, and right away his lips started to tingle and soon he stopped breathing and lost consciousness. turns out he inhaled a trace amount of fentanyl powder a synthetic opioid 50 times more potent than her win. it took two doses of narcan to bring him back. then his sergeant started to feel sick. because the team had only one more dose of narcan on hand the sergeant held off taking any until paramedics arrived. both men say they were not prepared and are now urging police officers across the area to carry two doses of narcan each. they say it is just as important as carrying their guns. if you head to your website you can see the fast rise of
